It's always good news when British Sea Power emerges from the studio with new tunes in tow. First preview, " Atom ", has been released as a free download and is definitely a choice tune. The song will appear on an EP later in November and then on a new album to follow in the new year entitled " Do You Like Rock Music? ". I have my fingers crossed. The first BSP album is still in my all-time top 10. British Sea Power - " Atom ". [...]

Here's a look at a few things that will be going down in Austin for the rest of September. As always, check Showlist and Do512 for a comprehensive list of local happenings. Thursday: 9/20 The Jungle Rockers , at Emo's The Jungle Rockers - "Sugar Shack" Coming around to their current sound rose out of a general frustration with the indie music scene and its sometimes icky leaning towards [...]
SXSW times. It's time for me to recharge, dig new music and finding different sound. It was fun last year, so here it is again. This year I won't do it as intense as last year, and will start with a long list of avantgarde, then rock, leaving the songwriters for regular wednesday. As usual, I string the songs into a playlist. If there is request to do it differentely, drop a message. Right now. I will do the rock category as time of day playlist. This list. An appetizer opening. I like the lead song [...]
The merits and detractors of instrumental music have been spilled here before , but unmentioned since. If I had to guess I'd say maybe 5% of my music collection is instrumental, the majority of the 5% being full discs by Kaki King, Mogwai, Rachel's, Lymbyc System, and Godspeed...! and a small portion of single songs and EPs by various bands. That 5% definitely gets played more than 5% of the time due to its ability to sympathize, emphasize, and aurally express a series of personal emotions I might be oozing at any given time. The best tracks [...]

[MP3] This Will Destroy You - The World Is Our [...]

Well, here are a few lists for y'all… By the way, this week I've listened to and realized that Grizzly Bear, Swan Lake, Junior Boys, and I'm From Barcelona would have made my top 25 albums list if I'd heard them earlier… oh well… Some EPs Worth Your Time – 2006 EPs are beautiful things. Some are like reading a great short story from your favorite novelist, while some bands are like the writers that truly excel when keeping it short. In any case, EPs are great in that they usually aren't long enough [...]
This Will Destroy You I'm in a post rock mood these days, so I thought I might pass on what I'm listening on to you: Explosions In The Sky The Only Moment We Were Alone [ indiechristoph. favorite] Sonna/Sybarite/Lilienthal Make Shift Saxon Shore April 14th Tristeza Golden Hill This [...]

It just never ends. Most towns have the good shows reserved for Thursday through Sunday. Not Austin! Everyday of the week has something worth while, so get out there and check 'em out! Jenny Lewis Monday is slow, as it should be, so check out Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins at Stubb's for a laid back show featuring great harmonies and jangly guitar pop. Things pick up a bit on Tuesday [...]
