Now that we're all done boo-hooing over the shocking announcement that Donewaiting.com is ceasing digital production in February, let's get to matters at hand - the Anyway Records 20th Anniversary show taking place Friday and Saturday night at Ace of Cups. We've covered our bases posting the lineups for these two shows but I thought I'd share this photo, a cover of the December '93 issue ("The Final Issue?") of The Columbus Edge , featuring two of Friday night's performers - The New Bomb Turks and Ron House of [...]

Tuesday night at Cafe Bourbon St., Columbus friends and fans will say goodbye to Times New Viking guitarist Jared Phillips before he departs to Cleveland this weekend. Before leaving, though, Phillips partnered up with Ron House to record some songs for a new project they're calling Counter Intuits . House said he plans to release an LP of the pair's lo-fi recordings titled Sheets of Hits on his newly formed local label, Pyramid Scheme. Look for the release in early November. Connections, Gamma World and Ron House will play tonight's farewell [...]

Click here to view the embedded video. Ron House is obviously a fixture in Columbus rock music. Columbus emcee Zero Star is also impressed by Ron House's swag. (did the phrase Ron House's Swag make you throw up in your mouth? sorry) Anyway, I am waiting for you tube to make an interview I did with Zero Star and DJ Pos to exist. So I figured I would share this since TOP told you to look at our [...]

MP3: My Mysterious Death (Turn It Up) The more your hear about the origin of Old Columbus bands, the more you realize how many of them formed accidentally, the result of spontaneity and serendipity. Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments was one such band. On a night about 20 years ago, soon after the dissolution of Ron House’s previous band, Great Plains , a band playing Stache’s ended early. The story could have ended right there. Everyone at the bar [...]

This here weblog has been around for almost a decade, and that's reason to celebrate. We'll do that by bringing three amazing bands, an emcee and a deejay to Ace of Cups on Feb. 3 in Columbus, Ohio. Needless to say, you should come celebrate with us: Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments are not just reuniting for this show. Ron House, Bob Petric and crew are playing their seminal 1995 Onion/American record Bait & Switch front to back . Rick Rubin would be proud. Wes Flexner also [...]

Fronted by Ron House, formerly of Ego Trip and Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, heavy psych band Psandwich recently released their debut LP on Columbus Discount Records . The album, "Northern Psych", is limited to 500 copies, with the first 100 on red vinyl. You can pick it up from the label for $16. Listen to the track "We Remystify" below!
this interview with Bret Lewis took place prior to the Gaunt tribute show at the Summit January 1st. To read about the actuall show, here is Rick Allen's review. I grew up on rap so my knowledge of Gaunt is from osmosis. I'm not an expert. Yeah, but you said you grew up with Nick Shuld? Yeah, I like that guy now. But at the time he was a year older, and seemed snooty. So when he joined Gaunt, it was another reason to hate [...]

there was a period of time when i bought any record that was somehow related to guided by voices, no matter how loosely related. honestly, a lot of these purchases were very suspect, but thats the price you pay for being mildly obsessed. one record that was an absolute find, and i do mean record cause i couldnt find it on cd, is thomas jefferson slave apartments' bait and switch . i cant remember how the thomas jefferson slave apartments were tied to gbv, other than both being from ohio. although in later years i believe lead slave ron [...]

MP3 : Moses Carryout (Ron House) - 20 or 30 People They're always there/They're everywhere I go They're the 20 or 30 people that I know We go to talk/We go to dance And when we get real bored we listen to the band We argue some/We never fight We wonder if we're drunk or something's happening tonight This song has been implanting itself in my morning bedhead ever since I started listening to Blind Boy in the Backseat , the Ron House [...]

(Photo via Ken Foto's Flickr ( Full Set )) "Brooklyn, your city amuses us. We've decided to spare your town." Ron House is a dangerous man. Sure, yeah, the head of brushed-back silver hair and the softened torso might under worse circumstances suggest "middle management" or "owner of a hardware store" - "We're just an oldies act," he said at some point during a set that seemed as present and necessary as the CDs he chucked into audience members' faces - but there's a fire in his eye that shows a love of [...]

(photo by Joel Treadway/ cringe.com ) First, you're going to have to agree with me that the following is one of the greatest songs ever written. Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments - My Mysterious Death (Turn it Up)(mp3) ( buy ) Else you can't be my friend no more. Columbus, Ohio's Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments was a lo-fi punk band in the '90s, when "lo-fi punk band" meant you recorded great songs cheap. Now "lo-fi punk band" means you deliberately obfuscate mediocre crap no one would care about [...]

(photos by Robert Matheu (left), Sue Rynski (right)) "It was my first experience of total pandemonium. It was like a dog pile of people, just trying to grab pieces of [Pete] Townshend's guitar, and people were scrambling to dive up onstage and he'd swing the guitar at their heads. The audience weren't cheering; it was more like animal noises, howling. The whole room turned really primitive - like a pack of starving animals that hadn't eaten in a week and some boy throws out a piece of meat. I was [...]

(Please give a warm A to Z welcome to Last Days of Man on Earth proprietor Joe Stumble, who graciously penned this blog post about the Columbus, Ohio, music scene to wrap up our Cleveland Rocks! week(ish). "When I saw Zach Galifianakis on Saturday I was standing in line and somebody asked me what it was and I said Laser Allin." -- Dan B, recounting his weekend fun in the FOT Chat "Put me up here. Disgraceful. Send them the dry cleaning bill. My clothes are ruined. It's like I went to the gym." -- Tom on getting stuck in the WFMU submarine "You probably, Spike, would have to talk to your parole officer about being in a building that would contain children." -- Tom, [...]
