There have been a few choice selections up on Noisetrade recently that are well worth checking out. Limited Fanfare have made a fourteen track label sampler available that includes Ex Norwegian, Jem Cohen ( of The Ettes/The Parting Gifts), PLAINS, featherweight, Sunday Driver, Lil Daggers, Denney and The Jets and more. Get it here . The Honeycutters have shared some tracks of sweet Americana from their most recent album When Bitter Met Sweet as well as unreleased live and studio recordings. Get it here . [...]
There are a couple of things I feel really, really passionately about. First is music, obviously, but I also love Oscar Wilde*, think no summer is complete without a trip to at least one music festival, and have fierce Ohio pride (at least for the southern half; Cleveland is disgusting). You can understand then why I could not be more excited to get to share the Bunbury Music Festival lineup with you all. Set against the backdrop of the Queen City (that's Cincinnati, thank you), Bunbury is a multi-stage fest that takes place in some of the most gorgeous city [...]

It is with extreme caution that we acknowledge this Hallmark holiday, but if anybody can get us in the Feb Fourteen Feeling, it's Meiko . An alternate version of her song "Stuck on You" (from last year's album "The Bright Side") appears on Paste magazine's Valentine's Day sampler, titled "Half and Half." That's "half love songs and half anti-love songs," for those of you in the throes of amorous indecision. Other highlights on the mix include Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside , Those Darlins and a live version the Cary Brothers song of [...]

Those Darlins has played the hell out of Off Broadway over the years. Last night's annual stomp through the big brick room on Lemp saw the Darlin "sisters" in rare form, sneering and sweating a... From the quick drum pickups on "Toasted" to the lo-fi recording of of the single, I struggle to sit still and focus on nothing else but bobbing my head from left to right with multiple fist pumps. I can only be talking about Heavy Cream, of course. The track clocks in at a little over two minutes just like you would expect any good rock track with gutter tendencies. "Toast" is a split 73 release with the Coathangers via Suicide Squeeze. Heavy Cream - Toasted [mp3]

A massive dose of Nashville is rolling through the City this Friday night, as Those Darlins are playing a gig at Rickshaw Stop with fellow Music City, USA natives Heavy Cream . L.A.'s Pangea is also joining the fray for what should be an evening of raucous rock 'n' roll framed by snarling guitars, furiously bashed snares and cymbals, and haunting vocals that climb to screeching heights when the time is right. And guess what? We've got tickets. Yessir – [...]
STARS, JETS OVERHEAD ( Aladdin Theater , 3017 SE Milwaukie) Canada has given us so much over the years: maple syrup, rotary snowplows, and Stars (the band, not the burning ball of gas). With that angsty, sparsely populated sound we've come to expect from our Northern neighbors, the Toronto band produces hot jams akin to Broken Social Scene or Metric. So put on your good muff and come on out, eh? ROSE FINN THOSE DARLINS, HEAVY CREAM, DON’T ( Mississippi [...]

photos by Devan Council Those Darlins at Glasslands, 10/26/2012 In contrast to Those Darlins last NYC show with Best Coast at Terminal 5 , the band's appearance at the intimate Glasslands on Friday (10/26) was downright cozy. The show, pictured in this post, was part of a string of dates with Heavy Cream that will wrap up mid-November. Remaining dates [...]

MONDAY OCTOBER 29 / MILO GREENE / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 368 QUEEN W / $16.90 / 19+ Milo Greene isn't one specific individual - in fact, it's an indie folk quintet out of Los Angeles. At first listen, you may dismiss them as having a similar sound to bands like Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Of Monsters and Men . And while this may be true, in no [...]
Get ready for a throwback to the grunge era tonight with '90s alt rockers Dinosaur Jr. as they perform at Union Transfer on their I Bet On Sky tour. The band, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their renowned 1987 album You're Living All Over Me this year, reunited in 2005 after taking an eight-year break. ... Continue reading

Back when they were simply the little band that could, we latched onto Those Darlins. You could say they became our darlins with numerous appearances in these parts which led itself to a full fledged week here at TVD where they curated our goings-on for five days. Well, the Darlins return to DC this Thursday night (10/25) at DC9 with what they're calling the "Summer's Dead" tour which, given our ultra balmy weather this week, might be a bit of a misnomer. Nonetheless, they're joined by openers Heavy Cream with [...]
