It was about ten years ago that a bunch of bands with names beginning with 'The' turned up and 'saved' music from Nu Metal, Pop Punk and Fred Durst. It was their penchant for guitar based garage rock that shook things up and subsequently the face of alternative music changed. The downside to any new movement is that there are always bandwagon hoppers and when the bubble bursts they are the first to go out with the flood. Those Darlins sound like a band that is piggybacking on this whole craze except no one seems to have [...]

Wonder Villains - "Ferrari." ************************ Proof that sometimes bloggers don't always discover music via the darkest corners of the internet or erm, via their email in- boxes. Sometimes we use traditional sources such as the radio. Despite catching part of their set when they supported New Young Pony Club a while back, we first really started paying full attention to Derry based power poppers Wonder Villains when this track was spun on Steve Lamacq 's round-table show. We were impressed, [...]

Take a healthy portion of girl group melodies, add a spattering of Ramones punk spirit, a sprinkle of Blondie's pop hooks, dust with some Mary Chain fuzz, and what do you get? About half of the alternative guitar-pop bands around at the moment, that's what. It's a category that Tennessee quartet Those Darlins can't deny they fall in to. It also won't surprise you to learn that Bethany Cosentino from Best Coast is a fan. If the idea of another name to add to the current scuzz-pop glut is enough to make you want to set fire to [...]

Welcome to FWBA's best-of 2011. This has been such a meaningful year in music to me that it's tough to represent in one post. I'm going to be honest, this took me quite a long time. I wanted to do this year justice because personally, it was a total dream: living in San Diego working with some of my favorite artists, going to SXSW and Lollapalooza, seeing Dave Bazan in stranger's living rooms, Feist play a hometown show, saw tune-yards electrified show at Soda Bar clocking in as one of my favorite performances, watching Zach Rogue and my boyfriend playing [...]

Sharon Van Etten Editor's Note: I don't do "Best of" or "Top" lists, but I do like things … as hard as it might seem to believe. I'm going to post a few editorials between now and the end of the year about the various things I've liked about 2011. For me to do a post on all the songs I liked that came out in 2011 I'd have to type for about 20 hours straight. I'm going to pair down the list through a couple of parameters. [...]

"Whoaaaah. Screws get loose!" You'll be singing along in no time after you listen to 'Screws Get Loose,' the perfunctory--but perfect--single by Tennessee's Those Darlins . Slightly rockabilly, but mostly garage punk, 'Screws Get Loose' burrows itself nicely. Watch the video to 'Screws Get Loose' below:

Last year, former Dr. Dog drummer Juston Stens branched out with a promising EP of original material as Juston Stens & The Get Real Gang. I've been a huge fan of Stens since he first introduced me to Floating Action via his pitch-perfect cover of "Don't Stop Loving Me Now." Stens is now back in writing and recording mode, though this time under a different set of circumstances. He's creating his first full length album by way of his 1972 Triumph motorcycle, stopping in a dozen cities across the country to collaborate with musicians and friends. The stops [...]

Those Darlins Album: Screws Get Loose (Buy) Label: Oh Wow Dang Those Darlins - Mystic Mind Tweet

Tennessee's Those Darlins bring a lot of 'tude with the punk-rock twang on their sophomore album "Screws Get Loose," but it turns out Jessi, Kelley and Nikki Darlin (who conspire with their long-ago rock 'n' roll camp counselor Linwood Regensburg) have a fascination with all things mystical too, in a Spector sort of way. "Mystic Mind," the second song the quartet is offering as a free download, is just haunting enough to have contended for last weekend's Halloween's playlist, with a bright guitar riff that peeks out of the dark undertones. There is a droning lull that drastically [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , Q + A Veta & Theo It's true Those Darlins have established a reputation for out-of-control live shows, but Jessi Darlin tells Spinner the Tennessee trio (now a quartet, actually) has reined in its wilder side. "You can't get f---ed up every night and really hit it that hard every night for the rest of the your life," the singer [...]

Our favorite drop-by Fountain Square thrift store shoppers, Those Darlins released a new video for " Screws Get Loose ," the title track from their 2011 LP release. The gals are pretty glammed up for the new vid...not how we're used to seeing these down and dirty ladies. Next time you see 'em live, ask them about their tour handshake...it is one of the more disgusting greetings/farewells I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. MP3 : Those Darlins - [...]
[mp3] Those Darlins: "Screws Get Loose" Continuing with the vamped up / scantily clad fashion theme established with their awesome "Be Your Bro" vid - The Darlins just dropped their new video for the best song on their new record (of the same name) "Screws Get Loose." Love the overall new concept for this band (and they really are finally a band) - though I do miss the more Carter Family style of their debut album, which we personally found a little more satisfying in the long run. Everyone's gotta grow up [...]
