I launched Fusion 45 almost two years ago because I wanted to spend more time with my record collection (and less time with my kids!) in the studio I'd spent a lot of time and money building. (OK, the part about my kids is not exactly true; but when the going gets tough, it's certainly an attractive refuge. My wife, the nurturer, understands.) What I've gotten is more time with my computer. Damn, another plan foiled. The very first Fusion 45 post was a mix of songs that happened this [...]

Because... It's gotta be a pretty good time to be Spanish right now. Your sportdudes keep winning stuff. Your bulls are happily running the streets. Your wine is about to outsell the Frenchies'. And if you're a sporty, wine-drinking bull, then well, it's all flippin' toasty, ain't it? Go have a cow. Three Dog Night - Never Been To Spain (from Greatest Hits ) [ BUY ] Yeah, me neither. Looks like me and 60-year-old rockers have more in common besides failing kidneys. [...]

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug-collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. This [...]

After last year's jaw-dropping finale and months of anticipation, Lost finally returns tonight to start its fourth season. To celebrate and help get you ready for tonight's premiere episode, Hypeful has put together a musical playlist for 10 of the mysterious island's key players based on songs important to them ...

It's not easy being a Miami Dolphins lately. The only team to ever win 'em all is showing strong signs of becoming the second team to lose 'em all . The team is halfway through an 0-fer for the season and is in severe need of some good karma so we'd thought we'd try and help. If you are a [...]

Three Dog Night: I Can Hear You Calling From Naturally (MCA, 1970) MC Lyte: I Am the Lyte From Eyes On This (First Priority, 1989) Diamond D and the Psychotic Neurotics: Best Kept Secret From Stunts, Blunts, and Hip-Hop (Chemistry, 1992) First of all, I'm glad folks are feeling this new series. It's funny - I'm assuming most folks have heard most of these songs [...]

Watched zodiac last night, it's a great movie. All round strong performances (especially mark ruffalo), some beautiful cars and a wonderful, subtly fx-heavy recreation of 70's san francisco. The soundtrack is also right on the money-it's one of those soundtracks that gets you jumping on google as soon as the credits roll- perfectly capturing that hippie-gone-bad vibe of the late sixties/early seventies. It's got donovan's freaky 'hurdy gurdy man' as the main theme and this killer from 'three dog night' (which has been sampled by somebody, but I can't quite put my finger on it) [...]

Four episodes in and the love keeps flowing from the seventies' jar. Not only the love but also the big names. That said, you should probably be told that this will indeed be the last 70s episode I do. Yes it's sad but options are getting a bit thin and besides, I'm sick to do death of this whole series. But fear not, in my self-righteous quest to help those less fortunate than myself, I will continue to the end. As I've mentioned before and probably never needed to, the 70s was experimental and confusing time (yes it IS possible [...]

Forget it, Donovan. it's all about Three Dog Night, the most successful cover band of all time. (And I mean that in a good way.) For two nights this week, Three Dog Night was all over the tube. Wednesday night, the hills and valleys of the Lost island were alive with the sound of "Shambala" as Hurley and Charley careened crazily down an impossibly steep hill in a beat-up VW bus. Then on Thursday night, those crazy kids from American Idol did a cheesy Up with People version of "Joy to the World." [...]
There is no better way to get back into the routine of things than a Thursday full of handpicked covers that are coming straight out of my musical orchard an into your ears. [MP3] Three Dog Night - One A slew of people have no idea that this Three Dog Night smash is nothing more than a remake of Harry Nilsson - who is going down in my book as the most underappreciated/overlooked musician ever. The biggest thing that baffles me about this [...]
Today in Music History: In 1975 Patti Smith's landmark debut album, Horses, is released. Beat poetry and garage rock meet in this early blueprint for rock and New Wave. The Rock and Roll Hall of Bullshit announced on Monday their latest batch of nominees for 2007; Patti Smith, R.E.M., Van Halen, Chic, the Dave Clark Five, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the Ronettes, the Stooges and Joe Tex. Only five will make it and once again I am bamboozled. I would say that although the above artists may well [...]
6 Cardinal Colors: Monochrome Coda Elvis Costello, Black and White World. Three Dog Night, Black and White. Richard Thompson, Grey Walls. 2-Star Tabernacle and Andre Williams, Lily White Mama and Jet Black Daddy. Elvis Costello, Black and White World (demo). So, we're done with the colors. At last! Assembling this woolly, ridiculous series nearly broke me--in particular, the entry on "red",

for the summer, i'm working at a pool. in case you haven't noticed, people tend to flock to these places when it gets hot out. the last few days, a lot of people have been a-flocking, and as such, i've been sweating. (because the ironic twist is that while all of these people are going swimming to cool off, the staff is working in sweltering conditions. i'm not complaining, understand, just pointing out the irony). so it should come then, as no surprise, that the hot weather and the heat are pretty much the only things on my mind as [...]
