Three Mile Pilot is one of the best unknowns from the 902s. They released some really incredible albums from 1991 to 1998 and then released one more album in 2010. The two guys in the band are also members of Pinback, who I also have a lot of respect for, but to be perfectly honest, I think 3MP deserves more notoriety. Dig into the track below and see what you think. Three Mile Pilot - Still Alive

Pall Jenkins' very distinct vocal sounds world-weary and forlorn on The Inevitable Past Is The Future Forgotten , Three Mile Pilot 's first album in 13 years. Perhaps better known for his work with The Black Heart Procession, the twinning of dark themes of love and loss with a post-9-11 Orwellian vision of society which Jenkins explored on recent albums The Spell and last year's Six are taken a few steps further here, and there's certainly no attempt to hide the gloom: "Bury yourself with their machines (they take control away) they're processed to [...]

We can now add Three Mile Pilot to the seemingly endless list of 90s bands reuniting this year. But unlike going on victory-lap tours, the San Diego band is actually releasing a new album called The Inevitable Past is The Future Forgotten (which totally reads like the title of a song The Books would write). If you don't know 3MP, you might know the bands that spawned from the group: Pinback and The Black Heart Procession. Both bands had arguably more success than their lone predecessor, but members Armistead Burwell Smith, Pall Jenkins, and Thomas Zinser have [...]
God, it has been aWHILE since I updated ye olde Listening Log, so I just did it in hope I didn't alienate you too much with my slacker-ness. Here it is, a chronicle of my listening habits that may/may not be part of some other section of this god-forsaken site: Purling Hiss - "Hissteria" LP [...]
First off, Album of the Week #25 issssssss (drum roll PLEASE) ... Vincent Gallo's "Honey Bunny" 7-inch on Warp Records! And that's not all ... I also have, wrapped up especially for Yu, my new Top-10 list, straight from the office in Snowville, Utah (yes, Dead Raven Choir was a predictable pick, but I'm obsessed [...]

If two weeks ago was Super Tuesday, this must be Ultimate Tuesday, as there are at least four albums likely to make more than a few year end top 10 lists (there are two likely to make mine -- I'll let you guess which ones). So you'll forgive me if this week's post is late, as the word count has spiraled out of control laying praise on the latest from The Posies, Deerhunter, No Age and Neil Young. Other notables this week include new releases from Abe Vigoda, Glasser, Nellie McKay, Owen Pallet, Ben Folds/Nick Hornby, The Corin Tucker Band, [...]
It's another big, big week for new releases from some of our favorite indie bands and artists, including LA's lo-fi, experimental outfit, No Age; the fifth studio LP from Deerhunter is a tour de indie with songs of psych-rock and electro-pop as only they can deliver; and the newest release from Abe Vigoda should be [...] Related posts:Best New Releases: Stars, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Club 8, Owen Pallett, Tender Trap, Chemical Brothers, Neighbors, Coliseum Recent Releases We Almost Missed VI: Owen Pallett, ARMS, Gareth Dickson, Monster Movie, Silver Seas Best New Releases: Elsinore, The Budos [...]

Hey everyone! Welcome to Friday, which around here means new music. There are singles, remixes, and covers from your favorite bands, as well as mp3s from some up and comers you just might want to check out. Plus, thanks to Kanye's G.O.O.D. Friday promotion, we have sweet new rhymes to look forward to from now until Christmas. And this week is extra special since it marks the end of our three year anniversary extravaganza. So we figured we might as well go out with a bang, cramming in as much music into this piece as we could possibly [...]

My good buddy Obama was in the news again this week, but this time it was for something he didn't do. Well, that's not true… he did a LOT this week, but what I'm talking about here… he didn't do. In a Yahoo! article, it seems that this photo is a fake: Based on the background, it's pretty obvious that the pic has been doctored, but what you probably didn't know was that the rest of it is Photoshopped as well. The article says, "Al-Ahram, the state-run newspaper in Egypt, recently ran the above [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive Some might call Three Mile Pilot 's 13-year silence a break-up, but for the San Diego indie rock trio, it was merely a hiatus. The proof of that comes via a brand new album, 'The Inevitable Past Is the Future Forgotten,' due out Sept. 28, Temporary Residence, and the promise of a nationwide tour this fall. Of course, the main reason for this lengthy silence is the success of the [...]

Three Mile Pilot - "Still Alive" From the forthcoming The Inevitable Past Is The Future Forgotten , the band's first new full-length in over a decade, due out 9/28 on Temporary Residence Limited .
In a little over two weeks, San Diego indie rockers Three Mile Pilot are finally releasing their long-awaited follow-up to Another Desert, Another Sea . Three Mile Pilot hasn't put out a full-length release since 1997's Another Desert, Another Sea, a long gap that wasn't exactly planned. The group planned to soldier on, but Zach Hill got busy with Pinback, while Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel formed the Black Heart Procession. Both of those bands have done nicely for themselves, so Three Mile Pilot was on the back burner for a solid decade-plus. In a little over [...]
