Most of these found their way onto the monthly mixes, with the exception of some of the more well-known songs. Here they are for you, provided again in a nice Muxtape-style Opentape format. Enjoy. : BEST OF 2009 MIX : [ 2008 list ]
We've seen an unprecedented year of new music in 2009. There's been enough diversity to satisfy practically anyone's music tastes. We definitely had a surge in surfer sound revivals, dreamy bedroom pop, lo-fi garage rock, and psychedelic electronica, but we also heard just about everything in between. It'll be interesting to see what trends emerge next year. Before we leave 2009 for good, we wanted to recap of our top rated album releases and close out the year with our top 100 songs. [...]
ein paar vielleicht zu unrecht zu kurz gekommene alben, die ich gar nicht oder zu wenig beschrieben habe, einfach einige perlen, die kurz vor dem jahreswechsel noch einen glanzpunkt setzen sollen, album + label ergänzen die musikalische information: von "feral harmonic", erschienen im oktober auf saddle creek : old canes - trust old canes - little bird courage erschien im august auf secretly canadian , "creaturesque": throw me the statue - ancestors throw [...]

When I compiled my original Best Of 2008 list last December, it was a snow day. The sky dropped about a foot, maybe a foot and a half of fluffy white stuff and we lowly sub-compact drivers could go nowhere. Between ranking albums and locating album art, I took a stroll around town with my camera. The above image comes from that trek. Overall, I was pretty happy with last year's list but, in revisiting all the albums from 2008, I now see quite a few that I left out. [...]
40. The XX - "Crystalized"People went nuts for The XX this year. We didn't exactly, calling them, "the most tense bunch of 2009." That was back in March before NPR got wind of the record and turned them into every bourgeoisie fantasy of what indie rock could sound like in 2009. They became Interpol for the cocktail party where no one is really listening to the music. Of course, all of this is

01. Electric President - Snow On Dead Neighborhoods 02. Throw Me The Statue - Showshoes 03. Chin Up Chin Up - Water Planes In Snow 04. Q And Not U - Snow Patterns 05. Thing-One - Through The Winter 06. Doves - Winter Hill 07. [...]

Like the rest of the northern east coast, I am stuck in the house and slowly getting cabin fever. Here's a little playlist I put together to keep myself sane for the next hour or so. So grab that cup of hot cocoa [or egg nog], some friends and make each other feel warm. MP3 :: Horse Feathers - Blood On The Snow MP3 :: Foreign Born - Winter Games MP3 :: Throw Me The Statue - Snowshoes MP3 :: [...]

First, a word on lists. Lists are essentially useless, but people who love music often love making them. It's impossible to make an ultimate "best" list, because all music means something different to different people. But that doesn't mean there's no such thing a useful list. There's a few different "best of" lists I could have made. I could have done the "Best" Songs or Albums of 2009. Or the "Most Important" Songs or Albums of 2009. That would probably go something like this: 1) Dirty Projectors 2) Animal Collective 3) Grizzly Bear. Bo-ring. That's not useful or [...]
Tuesday, December 8, 2009 Now that I've wrapped up my favorite songs of the year list, it's time to talk albums! Here's hoping you haven't worn out your download finger. Enjoy. - 20 Through 16 - #20) Raveonettes - In And Out Of Control After the psych-fest that was Lust Lust Lust I figured this duo would follow it up with an even thicker album. But that didn't happen. In [...]
Kidz in the Hall: "Grizzly Man" In the year of Grizzly Bear, even hip hop artists can't seem to get enough. "Grizzly Man," samples Grizzly Bear's "Two Weeks," and is a refreshing indie/hip hop blend. Kidz in the Hall, comprised of producer Double-O and emcee Naledge, created one of my favorite hip hop albums in 2008, The In Crowd. The album featured heavy bass kicks both gritty and indie with Naledge's butter flow crisply dropping lines like "Diamond in the back, sunroof top / Low End Theory... Read more at www.SFCritic.com
Unfortunately, my subscription to Sirius/XM is running out shortly. It has provided me a surefire way of finding good new music. As a music consumption master, I read about lots of new bands but honestly don't have the time to check everything out. I may have heard ...

Bishop Allen had their homecoming on Saturday night in Brooklyn.
Fab! Be sure to watch 'Hi Fi Goon' here. All shots by Alexis Maindrault. View more photos & download a TMTS track AFTER THE JUMP... MP3: Throw Me The Statue - Hi Fi Goon

We've been checking out Sirius radio again since we got the new car with the 3 month trial and we have to say it's great for us indie music fans. The XMU channel showcases a lot of the music we listen to and host shows from the big blogs we check out regularly like gorillavsbear , Aquarium Drunkard , Hipster Runoff , Brooklyn Vegan , and our local Indianapolis one, My Old Kentucky Home They have live in studio interviews and performance of new and [...]
Here's a few songs that have been stuck in my head the past few days. Good thing they're amazing songs and not a song like this (holy shit, this song is terrible). Enjoy. Wrestlers - Hot Chip Chaka Demus - Jamie T Subtle Changes - Sambassadeur Hi-Fi Goon - Throw Me The Statue
This made me chuckle because, yes, I'm old enough to remember plying my horrible white-boy dance moves in front of a black-and-white television set. It's the video for Bishop Allen's "True or False" (directed by Randy Bell, choreographed by Andrea Delmonico), off the Brooklyn indie-pop ensemble's new album "Grrr..." (out on Dead Oceans). I'm pretty sure they'll be playing in living color when their tour hits L.A. tonight. ||| Live: Bishop Allen performs tonight at the Echoplex, with Throw Me the Statue opening. [...]
American indie rockers Bishop Allen have continued their string of creative music videos, in support of the recently released Grrr... , with a brand new one for the song, "True or False". The video, supporting the second single from this year's release , is a throwback to the days of the Ed Sullivan Show . With early 60s style dancing both on stage and in the audience, the video puts the attention all on recreating the static-y, black and white quality of the legendary TV show. The video, presented [...]

Ray Davies Appears at the Orpheum on Saturday Night I didn't get up to as much as I'd hoped last week, but did catch Julian Casablancas and the Happy Hollows at Spaceland. Casablancas didn't do anything to win me back, but most of the crowd seemed really into it. I'll definitely be at Ray Davies this Saturday and I'll most likely check out more of the Happy Hollows tonight. Monday 11/9/09 [Pick of the Night] [...]
