So because of the falling snow that's blanketing us right now, it took me about an hour-and-a-half to drive the 16 miles home from work. Good thing I had all this Christmas music to listen to on my way home. You can find all of it here: Day 1 , Day 2 , Day 3 , Day 4 , Day 5 , Day 6 , Day 7 , Day 8 , Day 9 , Day 10 , Day 11 , Day 12 and Day [...]

spotted: beardless devendra banhart. for shame. As some of you know, Monday was National Man Day and FMLY remained silent to the observed holiday. Well to close the week I thought it'd be nice to make a post for all of the men out there perusing the internet while curling their beard between their fingers. This post is to beards and the men that have them...and not Devendra Banhart. Dodos - Beards Natalie Portman's Shaved Head - Beard Lust Thunderbirds Are Now! - My [...]

via hipster runoff Lets be honest with ourselves...everyone was so caught up in it almost being summer that we all forgot Mother's Day. Well luckily you can still save yourself from a guilt trip or yesterday's leftovers by making your mom a darling mixtape, below are some tunes to start you out! Blink-182 - Mother's Day The Velvet Teen - Mother of Love Thunderbirds Are Now! - New Wave Mom Ratatat - We Share Our Mother's Health (remix of The [...]

I could have easily posted a Sufjan Stevens holiday tune or Rilo Kiley belting out Xmas Cake , but I opted to dig within by X-mas music library (that fact that I have a X-mas music library scares me too) and found a few you people might find heartwarming...or at least tolerable. The City on Film - O Holy Blanket Thunderbirds are Now! - Christmas in Hollis [...]

(photo by Christine Edwards) With a member of Thunderbirds Are Now! , consistent "yeah"s throughout and an overall sense of glee an reverie of all things power pop, Friendly Foes are like rediscovering your love for that vinyl pressing of Zen Arcade or No Pocky For Kitty . They mix up a frantic mess of guitar, bass and drums and reel it in with peppy, super-addictive lyrics, creating a version of hooky anthems that have been sorely missed around the halls of rock these days. God bless them. [...]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =VAeqP2asknk You may or may not have heard, but Drew Barrymore, Juliette Lewis, Eve, and Ellen Page are all in the Detroit area shooting a roller-derby inspired movie called Whip It! (they were spotted at a show by some band called Thunderbirds are Now! a few weeks ago, and also seen here making complete fucking fools of themselves at Jacoby's). Like most films, we're suspecting that there is going to be a soundtrack put together for the flick (think it'll feature the Devo song of the [...]

I am a pretty big fan of Thunderbirds are Now! I love their records, but their live show is something not to miss. So I was excited when I got an e-mail today about Javelins , a band that features Matt and Julian from Thunderbirds. "Heavy Meadows" is their new album and this is the first MP3 from the record. I've played it about 10 times since getting it today, can't wait to hear the rest of it. Between this and The Hard Lessons, are all of my new favorite bands [...]
i didn't want the best of list to fall on a tuesday as this is a lot of tuneage for one day. oh well. shit happens. lee hazlewood - friday's child lucero - the weight of guilt william elliott whitmore - the buzzard's won't cry [...]
alas!, poor tan! if thunderbirds are now! and the go! team hadn't emerged around the same time, tan! might stand a chance of being the coolest band with a ! in their name (i don't personally like !!!, thank you very much). anyway, the fact that tan! and the go! team sound somewhat similar doesn't really help, because the go! team is, actually, much better than thunderbirds are now! at the spastic pop thing, as tan!'s third effort, make history , proves (also, their inclusion in forget remember when isn't really a ringing endorsement either). [...]
...and their patriotic service to the country through their father's campaign. Thunderbirds are Now! - Who wants to fight?

Vol 06 of this EA series was turning a new page for us here at The World Forgot. For once we we got serious about posting in this online format [before we relied heavily on word of mouth and links that were passed around the nets via email] and we also switched the format from seventeen songs [the perfect prime number to fill up a full burned disc] to thirteen tracks [still a prime number but more realistic]. So here is Vol 06 of the popular series of compilations we've thrown together. We're rapidly approaching [...]

The problem with living in a small-ish town is simple. Bands don't stop here when they tour. And when they do, nobody comes to see them. That was certainly the case last night when Brooklyn three-piece Oxford Collapse took to the stage in front of about twenty people. Poor turnout. To be fair, nobody had heard of the band, but they turned in a decent, energetic set with some solid tunes from their record 'Remember the Night Parties' and they dedicated a song to the recently deceased Anna Nicole Smith. As was the case [...]
My first real exposure to Thunderbirds Are Now! was at the 05 Pitchfork-curated Intonation Music Festival. Since then I've followed them closely, picking up all the live recordings and demos that I could until the release of their next album, Make History. MP3: Thunderbirds Are Now! - (The Making Of...)
