Tokyo Police Club's recent EP displays a really tight raucous sound, and has certainly got me looking forward to a full length release. Imagine The Strokes crossed with Bloc Party and you get the idea. Every track is short and sweet, with nothing more the two and a half minutes, which certainly suits their edgy rock outs. It's not all perfect, and it isn't the most ground breaking music you'll ever hear, but it is most definitely rocking and that means it gets my vote. They really sound like they are having fun making their music, and [...]
Today is the last day of our 5-day holiday songs spree. Today's closing songs comes from Thunderbirds Are Now! and Fiona Apple . Thunderbirds Are Now! - Christmas In Hollis Fiona Apple - Frosty The Snowman

"Every year, various friends (from Michigan and beyond) use the Suburban Sprawl Music Holiday comp as a way to have fun, write some totally sweet holiday songs, and collaborate." They also give away all the songs for free . Familiar names include Thunderbirds are Now!, members of Thunderbirds are Now!, and Andrew Dost of Anathallo.... I told you last week I really dig Christmas music. This season is intriguing in how it seems to bring out a wacky or offbeat approach to tradition in a lot of people. Case in point today - for the last three or four years Suburban Sprawl has taken the opportunity of the season to give away a compilation at every SubSprawl touring bands' shows. It is full of originals and original takes on some songs that have been around for a [...]

I'm never really a big fan of free compilation CD's but the good folks over at Insound managed to put together a one-stop listening affair for current indie music. Big hitters include TV On The Radio, The Decemberists, The Rapture, and many others. (I also like the fact that it was free to all and therefore I won't be getting any copyright letters). Thought I'd pass it along.... ::: The Big Sleep - Murder ::: Tokyo Police Club - Shoulders & Arms [...]
Thunderbirds Are Now! are touring in support of their new album and one of my favorites of the year, Make History. In addition to stopping everywhere--except Kentucky, of course--they're also offering three free downloads from the new album on their myspace, two of which you can download below. MP3: Thunderbirds Are ...

When Thunderbirds Are Now! released Justamoustache , they were received with tunderous applause that was merited by their gritty dance-punk style. The band is preparing to launch it's third album, Make History , next Tuesday (the mother of all Tuesday's people!) and the album has just leaked to the internet. The leaked copy is pretty clean so I don't picture the actual album being much different from this copy. As for the album itself, Thunderbirds Are Now! obviously spent a little bit more time cleaning up their sound with a bit of [...]

First of all I've switched the format in which I construct my mixes. Before they were always 17 songs. A nice big prime number. And that number was chosen because, when burned to a cd, 17 songs usually maxes out the available space. I'm Dutch, hence I like to use everything you can. But, in today's modern age [where the single song download is rapidly watering down the effect of a solid album], everyone seems to have digital music players. Taking this all into consideration the mixes to follow [...]

(Photo: Michael Conroy/ Associated Press) Week two and I have to start with the Colts. They had an easy matchup against a still terrible Houston Texans team. They had some tough injuries this game though. As soon as Brandon Stokley is back, he's out again, reinjuring his ankle. Tight end Ben Utecht had a key catch early in the game, but sustained a head injury in the process. Defensively, Freeney left the game early with a limp and Marlin Jackson sustained an leg injury. Vinateri continues to earn his check and be [...]
This sudden shift into spring has left me feeling completely inverted. The sounds that were ably soothing me through the winter months now seem innapproiate and out of context. Rather than intensify the hunt for new material, I've found myself searching frantically in dark corners, sifting through the debris of ...
About this time every year things start to slow down. Mothers start parading their kids around to back-to-school sales. Students start to pick up more hours at work to save up a little more cash before the start of the upcoming school year. Parties are largely nonexistent, for everyone seems to be saving up that last ounce of energy for that final summer get together â€" Memorial Day. The Content

Thunderbirds Are Now's last album Justamustache was probably one of my favourite records of last year. I could point out that they started to sound a heck of a lot like Les Savy Fav after signing to French Kiss Records... but I won't. Bottom line is there were some great songs on the album, and it grabbed me almost immediately. Seeing them live was a bit of a different story, however, as their cocky rockstar attitudes kind of left a bad taste in my mouth and turned me off them for a while. Now that their new album [...]

I'm off to Seattle for about two weeks, and I don't think I'll have much chance to post much between then and now. And I was just getting the hang of it too.. but to make it up to you, here's a bunch of random MP3s and some news from Thunderbirds Are Now! (Get the title of the post, or is it still too weird?) I'm trying to do this quickly so I can go do some late minute packing, but here goes. Seattle Mix Tape! A random mix of mp3s from [...]
Spin.com had some nice things to say about this new Thunderbirds Are Now track. In addition to offering it for download, they also got this nice little quotation about the song from lead singer Ryan Allen: And while Allen admits the song's title has little to do with its lyrical content, ...
Thunderbirds Are Now! have always been an interesting band for me. Here's a group that I didn't especially care for before last summer and whose music I still couldn't get into 100% by the end of the year, but who still managed to become the band I had seen the most number of [...]
Hey everybody. I had a wonderful time in Africa, in case you were wondering. It looks like you weren't too bad off without me though (Thanks Liz, Connor, Derek). I have to catch up on a week and a half's worth of music that I've missed, but while I do that take a look at some of these pictures I snapped. There's 14 pictures with a fitting MP3 and short description accompanying each one. If you ever were thinking about visiting Africa hopefully these pictures will help make up your mind. Since the [...]

There's been a lot of talk going around concerning the "new" Thunderbirds Are Now! and how they're not as insane anymore, or that they've lost the energy they used to have on the new album, Make History . World's biggest lie. Make History may sound a bit different on first listen, but after immersing myself in it long enough I've found it grabbing me even tighter than Justamustache did. Sure, there's no "To: Skulls" here, but there's enough new ideas and directions to keep you busy figuring out which [...]

mp3 : Thunderbirds Are Now! - (The Making of) Make History So if you've been subscribed to their myspace blog, you would already know that the new album is done and dusted, from following their daily account (with pics) of the recording sessions back in May. According to their latest blog entry, this new track, which is also available over at Pitchfork , "features the percussion work of SNL cast member Fred Armisen, as well as an all-star cast of friends singing backup vocals" . We missed [...]
After posting their song "The Veil Comes Down" online, Thunderbirds Are Now! pulled a switcheroo and went back into the studio to polish up their new album, Make History. This is one of the resulting songs, and I couldn't be happier. MP3: Thunderbirds Are Now! - (The Making Of...) Make History I ...
