Check out I Am Dive 's video for "A Morning Walk". I want to believe that these guys spent a lot of time listening to 10CC and Slipstream, but some of the tracks from the duo's Constellations EP actually remind me of National Skyline or a lost Bibio demo. That's high praise. Their new bandcamp release, Tides , is a bit more on the chill wave-electronic side, but I think their biggest strength lies when the vocals take over and they allow their inner-folk to [...]

'Mess Hall Malnutrition' begins with a simple beat which is then layered upon with numerous subtle sounds and is punctuated by brief, haunting silences. This is then followed up with 'What We See, We Become, In The Desert'; a sparse, dark, experimental track which nicely caps of Buffalo Tide 's latest single which is released via BLBX on April 9th.
Allison Crowe will release all-new live video and audio recordings of her annual Tidings concerts later this year, and she is allowing us to premiere a free, legal mp3 from the upcoming live Tidings album. Allison's haunting piano instrumental of "Carol of the Bells" serves as the introduction to this gorgeous, epic, extended, live Tidings [...]

Tweet Listen to Mikal Cronin 's latest song "You Gotta Have Someone" below. Back in September Mikal Cronin released his debut self-titled album to the masses, and the masses swallowed it whole like the crab rangoon you get with Chinese food that's filled with creme cheese. You can't just take one little bite and be done, you gotta eat the entire bag in two minutes! Well, Mikal Cronin 's album lasts just [...]

This is probably the first time I didn't find Meek Mill's voice annoying, probably because it's drowned with Beirut . Thank God for mashups. Download The Hood Internet Boss Tide (Meek Mill x Beirut) The Hood Internet Boss Tide (Meek Mill x Beirut)

Between The [...]

Say what you will about mashup artists, The Hood Internet always bring the goods in our opinion. Meek Mill's flow over the 'The Rip Tide' works better than you'd imagine.

"I thought if I said swag a lot and jammed hard to mash-ups I'd feel young". Well, that may not be the case but The Hood Internet definitely are the kings of the mash-up game. Made up of two Chicago DJ's, The Hood Internet have been mixing tracks from indie rock and hip hop together for a minute now and have a reputation as a couple of the best in the game. Think Girl Talk type status. This recent joint feels post-worthy because it takes a New Jawn favorite, "Ima Boss" by Meek Mill , and blends [...]

Hurricane Bells Tides And Tales Invisible Brigades [2011] Fire Note Review: Another smooth delivery of indie tracks on the sophomore effort from Hurricane Bells. Album Review: Tides And Tales is the sophomore record from longtime singer/guitarist of Longwave, Steve Schiltz, and his current moniker Hurricane Bells. The record continues his indie journey over these 12 tracks that can [...]
Their song "Monsters" got them noticed off the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, but it's doubtful their sophomore album will turn many heads. Steve Schiltz, the mastermind behind NYC project Hurricane Bells, apparently slaved over this recording, mentioning in a press release that he was "inspired by Jack White's rule of self-imposed limitations," so he worked to make every flare perfect. And on songs such as the most-likely singles "Possibilities" and "Let's Go," he shows off a little more firepower this second go-around, adding some hard-hitting electronica to the mix, but for the most part, Tides and Tales...
Hurricane Bells ' sophomore full-length, Tides and Tales , picks up right where 2010's Tonight Is The Ghost left off. They're still working the Killers-plus-encroaching-depre ssion aesthetic over jangly guitars and quirky sound effects. While there are fewer standout tracks here than on their debut, Tides and Tales makes for a solid listen. Kicking things off with an odd, distorted squeak, Hurricane Bells luckily only dabbles in noises, instead mostly relying on quiet vocals, simple percussion, and straightforward guitar work. "Before I'm Gone" is one of the best examples of this, [...]
