The rain won't stop the Dirty Projectors / photo by Matthew Thompson by Tara Kelly Kearns Well, it finally happened. The rain that had teased and threatened for the last few days finally came and reminded everyone just exactly what the PNW is all about. That didn’t deter anyone, however, and the music played on even through the wet and the cold. Fortunately, my first event of the day took me underneath the shelter (and somewhat warmth) of the tent at the Chupacabra stage for comedian Tig [...]

by Klaus Kinski and Tig Notaro Tig Notaro is a living super hero and I was so thrilled that she took the time to do a Top 10 for us. Even though Tig was previously an LA-based comedian, over the years we here at BV have admired her and always did what we could to trumpet her greatness to you , the loyal BV reader. We even managed to get her onto a [...]

by Klaus Kinski Aziz Ansari & Chris Rock @ Whiplash @ UCB last week UCB Theater Chelsea 's Monday night staple comedy jam session Whiplash still happens every Monday night at 11:00pm . Sadly, for old man Kinski, 11pm is just a tooouuucccchhhhh too late to be out and about galavanting with some of comedy's greatest talents these days. Which is sad, because you never know [...]

As anyone could have guessed, comedic genius Louis CK 's appearance on Saturday Night Live on Saturday night (11/3) was a success. If you missed it, make sure and check out some clips from the show below. As you may have heard , Louis CK recently released a live set by Tig Notaro , and we're happy to report that you can catch Tig live in Brooklyn soon. Catch a live taping of her weekly podcast Professor [...]
There are few people who deserve the term "badass" as much as Tig Notaro. She's a stool-pushing , swamp-rocking , Taylor Dayne-knowing standup comedian. She's the kind of eccentric genius confident enough to stand still in front of a camera for an hour , just so your party could be a little cooler. But it took smirking in the face of cancer to finally push her badassery into the stuff of legend. By any and all accounts, Notaro had a shitty year. Within a few months, she survived pneumonia, the sudden death of [...]

by Klaus Kinski Tig Notaro @ BV-SXSW 2010 ( more by Tim Griffin ) Tig with her good friend Dave Hill There's that well-worn saying that "bad things happen to good people" and I've always hated that saying because good things happen to good people too... and good things happen to bad people... and bad things happen to bad people. Basically, shit happens! To anyone! Anywhere! But sometimes the [...]

TAL Live (05/10/12) On Thursday, May 10th, 2012 , we will perform an episode of This American Life on stage at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York City and beam it live via satellite to more than 500 movie theatres around the US and Canada! We did a show like this in 2009, and were blown away when 50,000 people came out to see it. A lot of you have asked us if we'll be doing it again. So yeah, we're doing it again! [...]
Isn’t it time you had Tig Notaro at your party? By Patrick Rapa It seems pretty unlikely that Taylor Dayne and Tig Notaro would ever cross paths. One’s a pop star who scored a series of huge hits in the ’80s: “Love Will Lead You Back,” “Tell It to My Heart,” “Don’t Rush Me,” etc. [...]
A nonstop laugh fest, Good One proves that Tig Notaro is one of the funniest comedians currently on the market. You're at a party when your buddy meets "Someone." This "Someone" has a friend, and since your buddy already called dibs, you're forced to play wingman with the friend. Yet surprisingly, this wingman dilemma is atypical of most wingman dilemmas. The friend is seemingly a good catch: skinny, nice smile, and though she wears a boyish haircut, you find it kind of cute because it resembles Tegan Quin (you secretly love the song "Back In...

DOWNLOAD: Tig Notaro - "Little Titties" (MP3) Tig Notaro at Bonnaroo 2011 ( more by Dana (Distortion) Yavin ) Funny comedian Tig Notaro , who you've read about many times on BrooklynVegan , released her debut album, Good One , on Secretly Canadian earlier this month (8/2). It was the Indiana label's first comedy release. You can download the track "Little Titties" from the album above and purchase the album in a number [...]
To all those people who think female comedians can't be funny, you've obviously never seen Tig Notaro do stand-up. The petite, tomboyish Notaro has been steadily climbing up the ranks in the comedy world, pulling in crowds at her live shows, and appearing on Comedy Central and Sarah Silverman . Now, the dry comedian has come out with her first album, the aptly titled Good One . The disc starts off with a pretty funny joke about Chastity Bono. Now, Chastity and her sex-change to Chaz has been covered before, but Notaro's [...]

New Jens Lekman - “Cowboy Boots” While we wait for Jens Lekman to put finishing touches on the forthcoming follow-up to his 2007 sophomore LP, Night Falls Over Kortedala , another live preview of a new tune has arrived via comedian Tig Notaro’s podcast, “Professor Blastoff.” Notaro, a friend of Lekman’s, recently signed with his label, Secretly Canadian, who will release her debut album, Good One , in August. Above, you can stream/download the full podcast, in which the pair discuss sleepwalking, recurring dreams, [...]
:: I'm not sure what's weirder, that Vin Diesel was a rapper or that someone thought it would be a good idea to pair him with Arthur Russell . :: Speaking of strange collaborations, Big Boi will be producing the new Modest Mouse album. :: And speaking of strange in general, Of Montreal ’s art director (yeah, they have an art director) David Barnes revealed his next book project: the story of a pregnant male football player and the inner workings of his fetus' [...]
This year I probably saw even less buzz bands than the average blogger than last year. My priority was to have a good time, whether that be hanging out with friends or watching great music. So this list is a testament to all the artists, people and venues that made my time in Austin memorable. Best [...]

"I'm in Austin TX! You know how I know that? Live music in the airport! #AndASignThatSaysAustin #SXSW" - Doug Benson "Never realized how much I dislike music until hanging out in Austin, Texas during #sxsw" - Michael Ian Black Tig Notaro at a BV party in 2010 ( more by Tim Griffin ) Music is not the only thing will seem light in NYC [...]

While the past two days displayed perfect concert festival weather, it wasn't until the last day of Bumbershoot Festival where Seattle showed it's famous gray and misty atmosphere. While that didn't stop many concert goers from enjoying the festivities, there was a noticeable difference in attendance than the last two days. This was probably due to the main stage's departure from indie / modern rock and it's direction toward hip-hop and R&B. I wasn't too thrilled to be walking around in the cold rain all day either. So it was quite obvious I was going to [...]
