Remember the music from Sonic the Hedgehog 's casino level? Today's tune will take you back to those glorious 32-bit moments. Brooklyn's Tigercity use a clever mix of guitars and synthesizer to create an electronic lounge style. By placing blips over their funk-heavy guitar riffs, the band revives the soulful genre for the hipster dance set. Below, grab the mp3 for Are You Sensation? MP3 : Tigercity - Are You Sensation?

i've never really responded too well to one man bands like bright eyes, bonnie prince billy, or iron & wine...i probably shouldn't be lumping these guys together so carelessly, maybe it's the aliases, after all i'm a big fan of m. ward, who's music seems similar...or maybe it's that i scared they won't rock out on stage; i was never into songs:ohia until i saw magnolia electric co...whatever it is, something has always subconsciously turned me off of those three artists, even after hearing multiple songs from them that i really like, i never sought out the rest of the [...]

Sitting at Taco Bell enjoying the companies newest dish (burrito, whatever); the "Cheesy Beefy Melt." My phone rings, "Hey Pipe?" - "Yeah" - "Hey this is Bill from Tigercity , we're uhhh, kind of lost, how do we get to the venue..." Needless to say I knew right then that Tigercity was going to be a very fun band to interview and meet. After directing them to the venue and forewarning them of Jacksonville's liquor store closing times, we sat down and discussed life, women, but most of all their amazing music. I've listened to their latest six-song album [...]

I snagged Tigercity's EP mainly because they were / are slated to play UW-Madison; but was pleasantly surprised by this four-piece... Tigercity, currently unsigned and currently from Massachusetts, is throwing a big change-up after its self-titled first release. The band channels bits of Bee Gees and bits of new york ...

Release Date: 07.24.07 Tigercity have managed to mash an impressive amount of my favorite (both guilty and non-guilty) pleasures into one easy-to-digest dance-pop package. When cruising through their six-track EP, Pretend Not To Love , it is impossible not to pick up on their hints of Prince, Hall & Oates and Daft Punk. It is a bit '80s synth pop, a bit disco and even a bit electronic, providing just the right atmosphere for, as they'd say on Flight Of The Conchords , "business time." The EP begins with [...]

My name is karl, aka tanpanda. J asked me to help out with bbq and i couldn't resist. We are here to share what we like. There wasn't a mix for April since we have been doing the "On Rotation" segment every week. But I decided to put one together for April/May and call it the spring edition. It has a mix of rock, dance, retro, etc. I am pretty happy with it. Fresh stuff for the coming warm days outside. Also, the QP crew will be heading across the country to enjoy Coachella next week (yes, all those annoying coachella posts will be over soon...we promise). I am sure we will all be destroyed when we [...]
TigerCity - Other Girls. Tigercity doesn't beat around the bush. Why should they? Some situtations just don't require subtlety. They need brevity and action. These are areas in which tigercity are champions. No need to string something along. End that shit. I think we could all learn a lesson here. I like it when songs are written for specific situations. This isn't for breaking up with your longtime girlfriend. This isn't a song about the heartbreak of leaving a soul mate or whatever. It's not about having your heart torn out. It's about getting excited, hooking up, not finding anything...

okay, actually no lions. or bears or very indie exclamation points either. however, i have really been digging the band Tigercity lately, because catchy is the new awesome and this band is absolutely both. granted i DID see them live a few months ago because Piper dragged me there after we saw some really weird band from like antartica featuring an albino piano player trying to channel coldplay at pianos. swear to god. so i was not really in the best mood, and Tigercity was having technical problems which seemed to render them [...]

Yay! It's almost the end of the year and my work load is just starting! In a fine tradition of real-life procrastination, I've decided to post half of my totally obnoxious "10 BEST" list. These are songs which have warmed my heart, tickled my fancy, and completely renewed my faith in stealing music off the internet as the mode of the future. So now, children of the interweb, I offer them to you for your consumption. Eat, drink, be merry. I'm just gettin' started, bitches! Mew - Special ( website ) [...]

We all go through those ear plug moments where although we love music, there's just a time that comes in your life where you just don't feel like listening anymore. It's a slump that happens every so often for me, where I stare at the stack of CDs on my desk as if it's a mountain I don't want to climb. Sorry that this PMS (pause music syndrome) of mine has affected you, the readers of WNR. I'm doing better now though, rediscovering my love for music once again by becoming more involved in production and editing with [...]

Since I'm finally able to announce the super secret act on the bill, I thought the NY readers of WNR might like to know about this hell of a show happening tonight. My local favorites Tigercity will be playing along with Denmark beauties The Blue Van at The Annex . Doors open at 8pm with Normandy starting the night off. After the show's over, we'll be moving the afterparty down the street to my bi-weekly, MANIFESTO! . [...]
I find it interesting how often the synth fad fades in and out over the years. A few years ago, any band using it as a main component of their songs were labeled as "stuck in the past" or "cheap". Currently, it seems to be acceptable and I'm all for it. Actually, anyone who labels anything musically "cheap" really has a great lack of knowledge. As long as it isn't plagiarism, there is nothing wrong with embracing the past. Tigercity are following the mold of all these up and coming bands associating Devo and Gary Numan with slick [...]

Have I told you how much I absolutely love Tigercity ? No? Well pay attention. These guys are truly one of my best finds of 2006. It's only July and I've already seen them live 4 times. If that's not proof enough of how good they are, I honestly don't know what is. They put on a great show, and with the sound they have... that's not easy to do. But they keep doin' it, doin' it, and doin't it well. Bill's falsetto is just... Jesus... I would marry that guy alone [...]
