[Here's some afternoon viewing — two videos I really like ...] The video for Death Cab for Cutie's "Grapevine Fires" is even more of a tear-jerker than the song, but it tugs at all the right heartstrings. It's the work of Walter Robot (the team of multimedia artist Bill Barminski and writer Christopher Louie), and it captures the sense of loss that victims of the California wildfires must have felt. The song, off the album "Narrow Stairs," was inspired by frontman Ben Gibbard's personal encounter with the 2007 [...]
Tap dancing used to just be something you saw on Sesame Street or at your kid sister's dance recital. Then, Tilly and the Wall came along and made it indie rock cool. On April 7, you can learn to "T... Continue reading "Even you can learn to tap like Tilly and the Wall" >

FabChannel After considerable listens, I think I've twigged on to why I'm so taken with The Golden Spike , the debut album from Leeds' Sky Larkin's . The crackling pop-punk energy, barely contained in the power trio configuration, the odd and wiry yet undeniably accomplished guitarwork, the raspy vocals that can't quite conceal the sweetness underneath - they remind me of Land Of Talk . A more youthful version, to be sure, with more exuberance and less anxiety, but the parallels - now that they've occurred to me [...]

Though well known for singing "If You Talk Much (My Head Will Explode)", People in Planes conversation with Joshua , though verbose, is sure to have nothing but a positive effect on you. Joshua took some time to talk about everything from television to the 90s to being a part of sort of British Invasion with People in Plane's lead singer, Gareth Jones . Check out the interview here: Joshua, PopWreckoning: As you’ve been playing the new stuff live, how have you noticed the crowd [...]

A collection of previously released (and unreleased) remixes of tracks from Omaha's smiliest indie pop-slinging kids ever, Tilly & the Wall , That Remix Sucks (from Team Love) features the likes of CSS, James Yuill, Tom Knight, La La Lepus and No Context all trying their hands at making a few album cuts sound unlike anything the band could probably have put out themselves, all succeeding in their own way. Can't fully avoid those toe-taps or handclaps, though, that's for sure. Tracklist: 01 Beat Control (La La Lepus remix) [...]

I know I know, everyone is doing it. I swore I wouldn't do it this year. But I couldn't resist. I know I'm also a bit late because everyone cranks these things out in November. But anyway here it is, better late than never, my top 21 albums of 2008 is no particular order (besides alphabetical): Artist: Beach House Album: Devotion Song: Gila I still am on my campaign to convince everyone I know that mellow does not equal [...]

All these people talkin' 'bout you now, They don’t make no difference no We always have the rhythm here, In our blood and in our souls So let the beat control you now, There’s nothing here to care about Just you and me let’s break it down, [...]

Be an example to the world! Being an example to the world Ever true and unwavering, Return to the infinite Be the stream of The Universe, Being the stream of the universe Ever true and unswerving Become a little child once more. (TAO TE CHING # 28) I know a girl, who is calling off a wedding. I know a girl, who is leaving the country. I know a girl with the courage of her convictions. I know a girl, who dreams [...]
Tilly And The Wall : Talkin' 'Bout A Revolution . Seriously. Nobody likes a big ol' sausage party, not even the ladies. So you can see why the girls of Tilly and the Wall were so psyched. According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2008 was the year of the rat, but in the world of indie music, it was the year of “Damn, who’s that?” Everywhere you looked, there was a hot indie band with a totally hot woman up front, and Uncensored Interview was there to document [...]
Conor Oberst's independent label Team Love Records has announced the Team Love Library, a rotating selection of music content that registered users can access at no cost. That's right - free. Promising to offer "Team Love albums as well as exclusive content such as unreleased songs, live or remixed versions ...

My Year in review goes a little something like the state of the economy. Started out strong (did it? I dunno) and went down hill quick. The beginning of the year I had a kick ass job and internship and lived in a killer apartment off Melrose and had an awesome girlfriend. Now that it's December, I sleep on the couch, no girlfriend, bunk job, and have gotten in two car accidents. BUT things can only go up in 09! Right? I'm excited. So here are the albums that have gotten me through the worst year ever along with some [...]
Ordinarily I would publish all my year end lists on January 1st, but I just couldn't wait around this year. I got so into reading everyone else's lists that I wanted to join in on the fun. However, I couldn't bring myself to number this list of my favorite songs of the year, so you'll [...]
91. Funeral For A Friend ‘Memory And Humanity’ (Join Us) – Does anybody actually care anymore? 90. Mogwai ‘The Hawk Is Howling’ (Wall Of Sound) – Decent comeback record from Scotland’s post-rock posse. 89. White Denim ‘Workout Holiday’ (Full Time Hobby) – Alright but it’s a bit self-indulgent at times. 88. The Streets ‘Everything Is Borrowed’ (The Beats) – Not a bad record but Skinner’s genius goes missing at points. 87. Cage The Elephant ‘Cage The Elephant’ (Relentless) – [...]

Before anything else, apologies, and endless apologies for the staggering delay of posts this month. Anyone can agree that December is indeed a crazy month. Its really therefore an effort to be not swallowed by December rush. I wont keep you waiting, I know you had waited for this. Here is another volume (hopefully not the last this year) of amazing artists mostly already known but somehow overlooked. I repeat, I do not intend to make these artist more worthy of praises than those I don't post here. I just try to shovel rubbles and rubbles of popular indie genre [...]
