New MSTRKRFT remix that I completely missed? That kind of breaks my heart, I've been waiting for a new one for such a long time too. Anyways, it's a couple days off the shelf, so don't hit me for being behind a bit. The MSTRKRFT remix of John Legend & Andre 3000 . It's very MSTRKRFT? I'm not sure what else to say other than it being amazing, MSTRKRFT has such a unique style. Highly recommended. Second is a rather older Lifelike remix of Treasure [...]

Hello, please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of procrastination and general stupidity. This is why it has taken me so long to actually sit down and make my mark on Fireworks And Mash . Despite previously having constant internet access and lots of free time, I've decided now is the time to actually do stuff, when I have limited internet access and no free time. See? Procrastination and general stupidity. However, to make up for my laziness and absence I now propose a new regular bi-weekly feature to Fireworks And Mash , [...]
New Zealand duo The Ruby Suns have proved that the third time really is a charm. I had the pleasure of first seeing them perform this past Spring at the Barbary in Philadelphia following the release of Sea Lion. That night the venue, which self-proclaims it's got the best sound system in the city, experienced [...]

Summer is upon us. There are cookouts and campouts and picnics and trips to the zoo happening left and right. What could possibly enhance these carefree times in ways we haven't thought of yet? Oh that's right, it's time for the AZLTRON summer dance mix! If you missed it last summer, the summer dance mix is where I compile my favorite summer dance tracks into a monster mega-mix that (to me) sounds as good in my headphones as it does blasting out of a car stereo. Without further ado, I bring you the second annual AZLTRON Summer Dance Mix! [...]

Well, July didn't go quite as planned with regards to the concert goings. I attended a very small ratio of the shows that I had planned to, due to the fact that I was busy with other stuff and, for some reason, reedonkulously tired. I know everybody in the whole world thinks that they suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but sometimes I wonder if I actually do. Anyways, I did go see a couple of bands on Saturday night and I'll tell you about them as soon as I can, but in the meantime, let's look at the what ups [...]

Remember how we recently posted SPIN's current top 25 live bands? Well, Tilly and the Wall should be on that list. Their set is always high energy, ridiculously fun, and totally dance-worthy. Plus, there's always confetti [Ed. Note: Unless you were at the First Unitarian Church on Sunday night when the R5 [...]

(Taken even with a flash yet still dark, grrr...some brighter shots can be found here .) What sort of musical concoction do you get when you cross the sounds of the Shangri-Las and the B52s, mixed with the visual flair of the Flaming Lips and well, Riverdance? Why a peppy little 5-headed hydra out of Omaha, NE called Tilly and the Wall who played to a sold out crowd on Saturday at the Black Cat. I'm not a huge fan of Conor Oberst or Bright Eyes (I'm sorry, I've tried to [...]

There seems to be a trend taking place amongst music recently. More and more bands that would have usually just been a blip below the radar are now coming out thanks to the desire for a variety of music, and not just what is thrown at us by way of radio. This was the case of last night's surprisingly sold out Tilly and the Wall show at The Black Cat in Washington D.C. The line to get in the venue stretched down the block and signs were posted on the adjacent [...]

Today down in Columbia, MD at Merriweather Post Pavillion is the Rock the Bells tour with A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def, De La Soul, Ghostface, Immortal Technique, The Pharcyde, and Dead Prez. Finally in Philly, the TLA has Matt Costa and Sera Cahoone while the First Unitarian Church has Tilly and The Wall and The Ruby Suns. mp3: Tilly and the Wall - Bad Education [...]

The redone CSS remixes part 3. Yesterday I made a comment about whoring to a specific artist, but I noticed I'm mad whoring to CSS remixes. I just want to get this over with people! Really I just want to quickly get to the juicy new stuff. Rip the band-aid off quickly. I'd like to bring up that I find a lot of these remixes are more re-edits of the song. That's the word I was looking for when I struggled in part 1. Who could've thought Lily [...]

Tonight here in Baltimore the Lo-Fi Social Club has a great show with PA's Aderbat, The Cheater's Club, Teadora Nikolova, and Pressure Sing. Also in DC, the Black Cat has a phenomenal show with Tilly and The Wall, The Ruby Suns, and Exit Clov. Enjoy! mp3: Tilly and The Wall - Cacophony mp3: The Ruby Suns - There Are Birds mp3: Aderbat - No One Would Notice
I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to think of a polite way to describe how much I hated Ruby Suns' set. After all that time, the nicest thing I can say about them is: Listening to Ruby Suns live makes me want to gnaw my arm off. Their sound is a combination of Afro-pop, Brazilian Tropicalia, and late 80's Manchester beats. Sounds interesting, right? Not the way Ruby Suns play it. Instead, every single second of the two songs I managed to sit through sounded like the boring opening [...]

This weekend is shaping up to be a good one. The heat won't be too bad and plenty of shows are coming through the area. Friday To begin the weekend, there are some huge shows Friday night. Of course, the so called biggest band in the world, Coldplay is in Philly at the Wachovia Center. Opening is Santogold . MGMT is playing yet another sold out show at the Starlight Ballroom with Violens and [...]

Like sands through the hourglass, these are the Dallas music-related videos uploaded to Youtube this weekend... Alas, there are no videos of our DOMA Showcase up on Youtube yet (we'll have a slideshow up shortly here, though). But--shocker--apparently there were other shows this weekend aside from ours! Here's what they looked like... Tilly and the Wall played the Granada on Wednesday night. Aside from the general adorable aesthetic this band brings to the table, you'll also notice that the band has no drummer--just a tap dancer on a box. The good news [...]
