Remember the band-with-the-longest-name-eve r-that-actually-makes-really-f antastic-music? Well, I do. That would be Tim and Sam's Tim and the Sam Band with Tim and Sam. I wrote up a post about one of their more angelic songs, "Choices," a while back, and have been eagerly awaiting more from them since Life Stream . It just so has it that Tim McIver and Rebecca Palin, two of the main Tim & Sam members, started a new project called Golden Fable, with a fairly similar sound to Tim & Sam. But this project showcases Rebecca's vocals more prominently and has a [...]

Rather than getting tennis finger I've decided to call this band Tim and Sam. I've had to ditch several drafts because by starting the first sentence with their name I found it was circa 3am by the time I had it fully typed. Jumbled names aside Manchester's Tim and Sam are an adorable musical proposition. We had them on here before as far back as 2008 and in the interim they've released an LP which was showered with plaudits from all manner of prestigious publications. This is their newest song and sounds like Los Campesinos! before they grew up, got [...]

Is there anyone out there still reading this blog? You'd be forgiven if not, because I've hardly been prolific in recent weeks. I never seem to get time to write stuff, things get backed up and it just ends up being frustrating. But here are some new things to kick-start ...
Chances are that if you're reading this, you're probably not at Bonnaroo and thus probably are a bit jealous/bored/sad/etc. So now would probably be a good time to drop this week's edition of our Friday Mixtape. As always, included is a mix of the week's best new singles, remixes, and covers, along with mp3s from some up-and-comers you just might want to check out. Hey, it might not be the same as a weekend in Manchester, but here's hoping this keeps you entertained for at least a couple hours. NEW Singles: "Get [...]
Yesterday, we published the Best New Releases of the Week mix featuring fresh tracks from new releases by The New Pornographers, Broken Social Scene, The Hold Steady and many others. Since there are so many great new releases this week, we broke up the usually one installment into two parts. In today's mix, Part Two [...] Related posts:Best New and Recent Indie Releases: Brimstone Howl, Sunset, Tahiti 80, Chromatic Flights, Doveman & More Best New Releases of the Week, Part One: The... Having kept my eye on Tim and Sam's Tim and the Sam Band with Tim and Sam for quite some time now I received my copy of Life Stream with great anticipation. Although I definitely felt envious upon seeing the deluxe version, which included amongst other things a vinyl, a tea shirt and, yes, a tea bag. The genuine love and care that went into these personally hand painted box sets reflects the heart and soul that has gone into crafting Tim and Sam's beautifully layered orchestral folk. Upon hearing [...]

The hardest thing about working with a band from Foreign Parts is that there is a bit of a limit to what you can do for them from far away, especially when you're our size. Generally, all the things I can do to help a band out around here - Toad Sessions, tell my friends about them, try and get them written about on blogs or on the radio or on live bills and so on - are much harder if no-one gets the chance to see them and have my general pestering backed up by other people. [...]
And this week's selection of five are... Gorillaz - Some Kind of Nature (Feat. Lou Reed) "Dear SOIWT: Thanks v.much for your recent letter , asking whether my new Gorillaz album would be a stream of clichéd celeb cameos and rather simple-sounding beats. I'm happy to report that this is not the case: while numerous artists like Snoop Dogg and Barry Gibb do appear doing their 'thang', this is a wholly purposeful, imaginative enterprise - check out this duet I did with Lou Reed, and note it's eclectic combo of zany loops, thigh-slappingly infectious hooks and foreboding [...]

Charmigt minst sagt.

Since I usually read promo emails on my phone just because I hate having unread mail (the OCD in me, I know), I usually end up listening to a bunch of the tunes at once, rather than one at a time when I get them. And today, it just so happened that the first few were all a little bit folky, and all a lot good. Plus, we've been skewing way electronic lately. So since all of you party people are probably hung over anyway, I thought it might not be bad to give you some (well, [...]

Tim & Sam's Tim & The Sam Band With Tim & Sam is frankly, not a great name for a band. Which is a shame, for far from being the comedy or covers band you might expect, they are quite an unusual folk group with a sunny, harmonious sound that utilises everything from guitars to cellos to glockenspiels. It is certainly a mellow sound, but with enough quirkiness and mischief to make it stand apart from the standard folk fare. [...]

I cringe every time I see this band's name. Cuddle Magic. It's just awful. Having said that though, I really do love this song. I've had some problems keeping girls in the past Somehow I'm certain she's the one that will last She makes no promises, she lays out the deal And still I tell myself this love is for real I should know better I should not let her in... My expectations fuck me over and then My inclination [...]

Yeah, that's the name of the band. I almost considered not posting because of the ridiculous title. And it'd really be a shame if I hadn't, because "Choices" is a gorgeous tune and speaks wonders for the band. Sparkling, shimmering folktronica at its finest. From North Wales, T&S (four members) are set to release Life Stream , a two year project, on May 4 via their own label, Full of Joy Records . Its main theme? Celebrating life. Aw, how sweet. 11 tracks of celebrating life may get a [...]

How many of you are there? There's only one of me, which looks like it might prove troublesome this week, particularly late on when the clashing gigs really start to stack up. I am just back in Edinburgh after the Jason Lytle interview, which went very well in terms of being a most pleasant sort of chat, yet didn't provide a particularly obvious hook on which to hang an article. I may have to listen back and digest for a couple of days before writing it, I think. It's odd to suddenly find yourself in conversation with someone whose music [...]

TaSTatSBwTaS are a guy called Tim and his band, of which there are usually six, none of which are called Sam. When they play live, half the members wear T-Shirts with 'Tim' written on them, no one wears a T-Shirt with 'Sam' written on it. Only one member, Tim, is called Tim. They make instrumental music with acoustic guitars, clarinets, cellos, glockenspeils and ahhhhs. The sound is organic, melodious and, well, cute; kinda like a forest saying goodnight to all the little woodland creatures. In my experience, it's rare to find a band that attempts to channel youthful awkwardness into [...]
