Last Friday I braved urban flood advisories, torrential rains, high winds and one big ass bridge to join Von for an episode of his podcast, Americana Rock Mix and drink all of his Maduro Brown Ale . The episode is a retrospective of the Suburban Home Records catalog with lots of rambling between me and Von injected between songs. The entire thing clocks in at nearly 2 hours and can be heard here . During the episode you'll hear multiple songs from; I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch [...]

He's buried beneath parked cars now and pavement There's no monument there's no stone here to see him Just black asphalt flanked by high rise hospital chains If I had it my way we'd see memorials climbing To a true and honest hero Prosser's Gabriel Now does anyone know the name Gabriel Prosser My conscience says he's the one that history missed Tim Barry - Prosser's Gabriel Tim Barry 's song on his last album, [...]

Jonah on stage with Far at Mercury Lounge ( more by Chloe Rice ) Jonah Matranga has a new LP entitled You're All Those Things And Then You're None ... or is it a double album? THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Queens of the Stone Age w/ The Dough Rollers Monday, March 21 Center Stage - 1374 West Peachtree Street NW in Atlanta 30309 SOLD OUT I'm not really up to spelling this out for anyone. I've got a brutal head cold and the Atlanta pollen is wreaking havoc on my sinuses. Really, I just want to make it out to the show and not have my head explode. And, at this point, if I have to explain to you why tonight's [...]

Photo by Shawn "Muddy" Brackbill FRIDAY, MARCH 18 We can only assume that the reason Pissed Jeans hasn't already entered WHYY's "NewsWorks Tonight Theme Music" contest—which we suggested earlier this week —is because the band has been busy preparing for tonight's show, which is the Allentown noise-rock quartet's first area performance in what feels like quite a long time. The band has kept a relatively low profile since releasing the "Sam Kinison Woman" single late last year; we're looking forward to catching [...]

Every now and then a weekend comes along that just makes you shake your head at the awesome. If it weren't for this being Sober February I'd be shaking my head wondering how I was gonna get through it both physically and financially. Anyhow, for the out of town readers, find an awesome show to go to this weekend and support live music. For my in town readers, I found your shows for you: THURSDAY NIGHT @ THE ORPHEUM: GREENLAND IS MELTING & TIM BARRY ($10) [...]

Tim Barry has some east coast dates scattered throughout the next few months. Click below for the itinerary. Barry continues to support 2010's 28th & Stonewall .

LOL. That "exclusive" shit is douchey as fuck ain't it. I promise it was totally tongue in cheek. Anyhow.... Two and change years ago, on a chilly rainy Saturday afternoon in Denver, a collection of people in town for the Suburban Home Anniversary Party sat in the front lobby of Suburban Home's office watching the likes of Micah Schnabel, Austin Lucas, Tim Barry, Shane Sweeny and Devon Stuart pass around a single acoustic guitar, telling fish stories and singing songs. In the midst of all of this, this little guy takes the guitar, explains the inspiration [...]

(AIV Note: This was supposed to be posted yesterday but my dumb ass forgot to upload the podcast to the server. Der, I iz full of forgets....anyhow, enjoy.) Well, it might be a new year and I might have a radio show now but nothing really changes when it comes to the podcast. It starts nice enough and you might even be able to hear some improvement gleaned from doing a weekly radio show but it quickly devolves into a ½ drunk foul mouthed typical podcast. Don't let that deter you though. While my speech and [...]

Autopsy IV is on his annual pilgrimage to strap a board to the bottom of his feet and slide down mountains. While he is away 9B will feature a collection of guest posts. Today's post finds our good buddy Shawn Kellogg returning to continue rubbing in the fact that I don't live in Denver. Even though both Tin Horn Prayer and Arliss Nancy 's new discs have been reviewed here and [...]

If you like tough-sounding songs with great one-liners like, "I like to get high as a mountain when I'm crumbling to my knees," then Tim Barry 's 2010 release—his third album—is for you. 28th and Stonewall is 12-songs of pure countrypunk bliss. It is muscular, honest, earnest and gritty. It's ballsy and brassy, bluesy and boozy. Angry, ornery, furious and joyous. Yeah, I loved it. If I'd been turned on to it last year, it would easily have made my top 10 for 2010. Virginia's Barry is a chronic tourer, spending months at [...]
Gainesville's Greenland is Melting is starting to generate a descent amount of buzz for themselves ( we reviewed them here ) and they're about to hit the road to show some of the southeast what they're all about. If they're coming to your neck of the woods take it from me and go see the folk show. They're really nice guys and put on one hell of a fun show. Here are the tour dates: Friday January 21 Durham, NC [...]

Here we are at the end of another year. All things considered, it was a pretty good one. On a personal level, I came into 2010 facing some pretty freaky & scary health issues and I'm leaving more or less in tact and healthy. Both my Seminoles and my Buccaneers had positive seasons while it looks like my Lightning are gonna be in the playoff conversation all season. Musically, it was a pretty solid year too and that's what we're really here to talk about now ain't it. In preparation for this show I literally (yes, I am [...]
