Back when Pearl Jam and Nirvana were taking the world by storm and fueling angst in suburban teens everywhere, The Screaming Trees became my favorite Grunge band. I've followed lead singer, Mark Lanegan, throughout his solo career and my favorite of his albums is I'll Take Care of You , a collection of under appreciated folk, country and blues tunes. After hearing this album, I began to respect Lanegan much more as an artist. He dug deep in the folk and blues graveyard to find incredible songs and his smokey voice haunts each one. One of the [...]

Aber was macht Frau, wenn sie im Kajak sitzt, mitten in der Wildnis, links Canyon, rechts Canyon und weit und breit keine Sandbank in Sicht? Richtig. Whiz Freedom ansetzen, Gurkenglas drunter und
This song is from Tim Hardin 1, his debut album released in 1966. Two of the songs I remember best, Reason to Believe and Misty Roses, are on this album. In the late 60's Tim stopped writing music. He had begun to be increasingly overwhelmed by his growing drug problems, and by 1973 and the release of his last album, Tim Hardin 9, his heroin addiction had taken control. He died in 1980 of a drug overdose. MP3 File

American Cowboy is one of the endless amounts of gems at Archive.org . A reporter goes to a ranch in Gunnison, Colorado to write a story about cowboys and finds out life isn't like Gene Autry portrays it. Works better with your own music and none of the original narration. Part I and Part II MP3: Tim Hardin - Once Touched By Flame

How To Drink Single Malt Scotch Dear Cable Company, I was cracking a 12 year old double wood Balvenie when the news arrived, it's digital tidings sheer and edgy as slit skin, blasting twenty plus and still counting bodies into my family room. Some were disgusted by the smoky appearance and the peaty smell. Others babbled about retirement planning and hair loss. I told them to keep out of my scotch, that I prefer to breath it in from a tulip glass because it splashes the spirit onto the tongue. Riedel and Glencairn make [...]

Sorry I'm posting this so late in the day. I have a shitty cold, spent a lot of the day in traffic, and my roommate (whose computer I actually use because mine's so old I can't even use the internet on it) is also sick, so we're sharing today. Anyway, this week's mix is suitably bleak, except for one stretch in the second quarter where it stops being bleak briefly. Listen to it while you can, songs are only up for a week, buy the music legally if you like it, and so forth. On the bright [...]
Part 2 Turn the Corners... Your words have no meanings from this point, down on the street, seeing all those playing angels on the street. You can dream your favorite tune playing on the backround, if you have imagination. A dream can change everything, that time you can love whatever you want to... [[ This is a content summary only. This Wednesday lots of hippies old and new will celebrate the 38th anniversary of Woodstock . It took place on August 15-18th 1969 in Bethel, New York, 50 miles from the "real" Woodstock. I wasn't there. I was at overnight camp that summer, barely 11 years old. I remember my counselor Joey took his days off to go and came back completely crazy and turned our bunk on to The Who. If I Was A Carpenter - Tim Hardin Santana - "Soul Sacrifice" [...]

Beautifully, I heard it from Tim Hardin. So sang Nicolai Dunger - no slouch himself - on "Tribute to Tim Hardin ." It's a wonder that more aren't paying tribute. There's Okkervil River , of course, the band who based their breakthrough album on Hardin's "Black Sheep Boy." It took these golden endorsements for me to seek out the overlooked '70s singer/songwriter, and my God. AllMusic says Tim Hardin 1 isn't his best album; I'd believe them if it were possible for albums to be better than this one. [...]

Here is one of America's best songwriters. Just ask Colin Blunstone , Gandalf , Scott Walker , The Small Faces, or the hundreds of other well known artists to have recorded his tunes. He is best known for If I Were A Carpenter, though you probably have heard many of Tim's songs without realizing it. Tunes you'd probably know on 1? Let's see, Reason to Believe has got to be the most popular, it's a well known and beautiful song. Misty Roses you will recognize from Colin Blunstone's One Year. Never Too Far and How [...]

In September, 1971, I was a freshman at Windham College in Putney, VT. Not very happy, didn't really know anyone, was in the middle of a slow but painful break-up with my girlfriend. One weekend, I got a call from my friend Michael, who worked for a company that supplied the sound equipment for most of the rock concerts that were produced in the New England area. He was coming to Windham to do the sound for a Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen concert and wanted to know if I would help him out. [...]

Parmi ses merveilles, I'll be home a une place à part.
