This spring Tim Schmidt released his third album, "Dog", and it feels like he's carved out his own americana niche. It's an inspired album where he with a few tools pushes the borders by not "only" showing us beautiful finger picking, but experiments more with the backing and colours of the songs also with more instruments, overdubs and variations. It's still stripped and naked and with his special, somewhat nasal Nick Drake-like vocals, but feels more spontaneous. You can listen more on his Bandcamp page or on Spotify . Tim Schmidt is a favorite of Swedesplease. In fact he's a bit of an obsession. At the moment he's preparing a new album titled Dog to be released in Februaury on Just Like Records. This is the first single from it. While it has some common elements from past records (that steel string acoustic guitar sound) and Tim's unique voice; the single also has some strange new elements (weird overdubs, clipped vocals and found sounds). <iframe width="400" height="100" style="position: relative; display: block; width: 400px; height: 100px;" src=" http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPl ayer/v=2/album=1690260075/size =venti/bgcol=FFFFFF/linkcol=42 85BB/" allowtransparency="true" [...]

Letztes [...]

I'm very excited about the new record from Swedish folk artist Tim Schmidt . The record is called YaYa River and comes out on Thanks For The Postcard on April 26. His voice (a cross between Dylan, Drake, and Jeff Buckley) is well suited to his fingerpicked guitar style. His songs are mostly unadorned acoustic guitar and voice. His English with just an ever so slight Swedish accent makes his vocals sound slightly exotic or romantic. The songs themselves are wonderfully simple; they're often tales of love, obsession and devotion. [...]

I have found myself immersed in a full inbox of music again (there are worse things), but I tend to get muddled in it all instead of casually floating among fantastic sounds and beats. So basically I tend to listen to soo much, albums get one listen and then it is on to the next. Some artists/PR emails send one track - I often find that not enough to gauge if I like the band/album (usually as the "lead off" track is the up tempo, jangly indie you tube track that I don't prefer and the real gems are hidden [...]
I mentioned Tim Schmidt the other day in my post about Jenny Bjorkqvist and also back in May 2008 . His debut solo record Slower Things is now finally available. It's out now on the German label Analogsoul and can be purchased through iTunes or AMAZON here and here . This song is a bonus track not on the album. Like the album title suggests these songs are meant to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Whether it's just Tim and his acoustic guitar [...]

Yesterday Tim Schmidt was wedged in between an indie pop band and a lounge crooner on my Swedish video roundup page. He was the one artist that didn't seem to belong with his soft folk music and unusual delivery which is a mix of Dylan, Buckley and Cohen. Here's new songs from Tim that will probably end up on a debut record sometime this summer. Catch Tim Schmidt live in Stockholm on May 24 at Norrport. Brighton Beach Crows Cracks Them Skies [...]
