The Arcade Fire is set to take on the dust bowl that can be Randalls Island . The show takes place October 6th, so the weather may be better than for some of the summer shows. The Fire are bringing some friends along for the ride. Wild Light, Les Savy Fav, Blonde Redhead and LCD Soundsystem will share the bill. You may recall us featuring Demander back in January. The New York trio are still going strong and the buzz will likely only increase this fall as they join both the Hold Steady and Art [...]

The kind folks over at dovecote records sent me a copy of Tim William's "Merchant Heart" EP about 10 weeks ago and it has been in heavy rotation in the RSL compound ever since. Meet Tim Williams B ackground: When you first hear Tim's music you kind of get bowled over. I hear a lot of songs and it's not often you hear a new artist with such "sound." Not to [...]
I've been involved in booking plenty of great shows, especially in the past year, and now it's time to give it a shot on my own. When the opportunity came up to book a night at Union Hall , I decided it would be a fine time for a Subinev.com Holiday Party . Friday, December 22, 2006 8pm Tim Williams - "The Novel" 9pm Alina Simone - "Love and [...]
Of course Mary already beat me to it , but I've gotta get my post in too... Something about being out so late on Wednesday actually made Thursday go by pretty quickly. I'll tell ya - I was super focused at work and I only got up once to go get a sandwich. When it was time to head out I made a pit stop at Sam Ash to play with electronic drum sets that I will never ever be able to afford (nor should I have one anyway) under the watchful eye of Dan [...]

Tim Williams With the way the whole indie singer/songwriter niche has become so grossly oversaturated in past couple years, it's no surprise that I'm typically turned off by them. I'll be honest, I blatantly ignore most singer/songwriters that come my way on principle alone, this personal principle that states that I am rarely excited about a one man show. That's just the way I am and that's why if you check back, you won't find to many in these here archives. However, Tim Williams is one of the few exceptions [...]

I received a nice package from Dovecote records with some excellent EPs from Aberdeen City but more importantly, Tim Williams . With a sound that is quiet and sincere like Nick Drake but more upbeat and pop with xylophone, reverbrating guitar and strings, Tim has a distinct sound. Much like Paul Duncan did earlier this year, creating quiet, strummed pop pieces, Tim weaves his hushed voice, with all of its emotion into each track. The Novel I Am Wearing [...]
It's always a pleasant surprise to pop in a CD with absolutely no expectations and actually enjoy what you hear. This was the case with the new Tim Williams' EP I received a couple of days ago from Dovecote Records. The Merchant Heart EP features 5 tracks (2 of which are demos) from the upcoming When Work is Done LP. This effort consists of haunting acoustic-based songs with sparse
Sunken Treasure , the record label run by music blogger Robert Duffy of Donewaiting.com , has two albums scheduled for fall release. Well I survived my first day of work. Big congrats go out to me, and a nice big glass of wine before heading out to the Phoenix/French Kicks show tonight. But with all this looking forward, its nice to look back once in a while too. Or do both at the same time. Let me explain. One of the greatest perks of starting a magazine and featuring some lesser-known bands/artists is to watch what they make of themselves. Sometimes you get it right. I wouldn't call myself a tastemaker by any means, but lately I've been seeing [...]

I'm excited to be able to give you a sneak peak at the upcoming record by Laura Gibson . She's in the final stages of mixing the record and will release it on the wonderful Portland label Hush Records in November. So remember this name, you'll be seeing it again in the fall. Her upcoming debut record is titled If You Come To Greet Me and was recorded in part by Norfolk and Westerns Adam Selzer with area musicians like Rachel Blumberg, Peter Broderick and Adam Selzer at [...]
