Timbre, as Frank Zappa says in the Real Frank Zappa Book , is everything . But it's also confusing. To a Westerner, the sitar eternally signifies the mysterious allure of the East, while – as Talvin Singh once pointed out – 'in Bombay, an electric guitar is exotic'. Why is this? ABOVE: A rare and dangerous example of the urethra flute. [...]
I'll be the first to admit, I didn't know how to pronounce Timber Timbre for a long while until I was corrected by a friend who said, "no no, it's like Timber Tamber ". Gotcha. Well they just released an animated video for Swamp Magic off their LP "Creep On Creepin On" via Arts & Crafts . This track is especially spooky with the shrill of violins dragging throughout- in fact, it's entirely instrumental. They've got some tour dates coming up below. Check 'em out. [...]
by teepoo Check out this creepy (as expected) animated video from Timber Timbre . Swamp Magic has no vocals but that doesn't mean you'll get bored when listening to this song. iTunes | Amazon

Timber Timbre | Do I Have Power With great power comes great responsibility.
It may be their fourth album, but the new album from these newly expanded Canadian backwoods mystics sure feels like a victim of the sophomore slump. Can we finally officially consign short, 'atmospheric' instrumentals to the same bin we toss skits from rap albums in? There's usually some novelty value to both the first few times, and every so often there's an exception that proves the rule, but generally they don't work. They don't work on their own, and they don't even really work in the context of the albums they come from. In the 'old days,' we'd hit [...]

Timber Timbre: "Do I Have Power" Video Just in time for Halloween, Timber Timbre's third video for their Creep On Creepin' On LP arrives in the form of "Do I Have Power," an animated, monochromatic trip through some Sleepy Hollow -meets -What Dreams May Come scenery, where a kid in a skeleton costume winds up shuffling off his mortal coil during Colin Stetson's cacophonous sax solo. Check out the clip, directed by Carlos De Carvalho , above.

by teepoo For some reason I didn't check out this bizarre but beautiful video by Timber Timbre until now. It sure lives up to the title. Creep on Creepin' On .
CBC Radio 3 Track of the Day. Every week until September 19th, we will feature a different Polaris Short List nominee. This week is Timber Timbre Week.
Here's the concerts announced for Toronto this week that I deem noteworthy: Said The Whale, Mod Club, Sep 8 Peter Katz, The Music Gallery, Sep 23 Mad Professor, Great Hall, Sep 24 tUnE-yArDs w. Pat Jordache, Lee's Palace, Sep 26 Astronautalis, Parts & Labour, Sep 26 Rebekah Higgs, Drake Underground, Oct 2 Adam Cohen, Drake Underground, Oct 3 Adam Cohen, Drake Underground, Oct 4 CJ
I'd like to thank Timber Timbre for teaching me something important about myself: that I am not just fickle and persnickety. When I spun up Creep On Creepin' On for the second of my Polaris Prize re-visitations, I was afraid that it, like Braids' Native Speaker, would seem dulled by time, less impressive and maybe [...]

Live: Timber Timbre @ Sticky Mike's Frog Bar, Brighton 01/09/2011 This week I've been rushed off my feet with gigs to go to; Mike Heron of The Incredible String band in London on Monday, Other Lives in the same city on Tuesday, and now Timber Timbre on Thursday night in Brighton. The mood the latter was fittingly the lowest, the low light levels, as if by candle light, really complementing the kind of haunted and dated blues-based mood which the Canadian three piece have mastered across recent works. I entered (late) to 'Black Water' [...]
