When thinking of Sheffield, many weird and few wonderful things may come to mind, although funk presumably doesn't feature all too prominently amongst said things... Yet a retro, neon-daubed funk troupe is precisely what Shake Aletti are. From Lunch Break Funk to Tinie Tempah reworks, they're at worst an intriguing proposition, at best a quintessentially British Plant Life cross-pollinated with tongue-in-cheek boxfresh Fresh Prince of Bel Air insolence. Digital Connection is Daft Punk dueling with Jamiroquai armed with USB sticks instead of lances etc. Shake Aletti - Digital Connection [...]

THE DISC-OVERY TOUR + CHIDDY BANG & BLUEY ROBINSON In less than six months Tinie Tempah has gone from underground buzz artist to bona fide pop phenomenon. His no. 1 debut single ‘ Pass Out ’ is the biggest-selling single this year by any British artist, and its follow up ‘ Frisky ’ has been another massive hit taking Tinie Tempah’s single sales past 750,000 copies in the UK alone... He’s supported Rihanna, Chipmunk, Mr Hudson and Jay Z, performed ‘Pass Out’ [...]
In heavy rain periods at Oxegen, bands can be forgiven for thinking, nay hoping they've drawn an appreciative audience that have been summoned by their dulcet tones when in reality Johnser and friends are just getting out of the rain (and their minds simultaneously). The same fate befalls Cork & Waterford band O Emperor who it appears have drawn a sizable number at first glance. Once your eyes re-adjust to darkness, it's clear most of the people are with Johnser but that doesn't stop a decent gathering towards the front of the stage. And rightfully so, O Emperor [...]

Who would of thought it, eh?! Good look for Tinie Tempah and the UK as a whole. Tinie Tempah - Pass Out Remix (feat. Snoop Dogg)

Damn. This roundup is huge. I been slippin on my pimpin and sooo many great tracks have piled up. Dive in. For more jams or by any of these artists use the ‘tags’ links at the bottom of the post! ♫ Oasis - Wonderwall (Questions Version) / Jay-Z fucked up his attempt and Ryan Adams' cover is beautiful. Now we have this remix to add a little gritty funk to these timeless lyrics. Sweet. ♫ Rox - I Don't believe (DON [...]

I did not see this remix coming at all. This is crazy, I have been on Tinie Tempah and Tinchy Stryder forever and then when I saw this remix I almost fell out of my chair. Diddy is expanding and these are a great addition if they are going to do a lot more work together. Tinie Tempah is that future and he sounds great on this track. I would love a dirty version though. Now apparently Tinie and I have alot in common, but I think that may be a conversation for another time. Right now all I'm going to say is that I'm growing quite partial to the small one with a tempah. His latest single "Frisky" was released last week and it boasts quite an impressive remix package. It doesn't quite reach the same heights as "Pass Out" for me, but it does pretty damn well in getting off the ground. You can buy the single from iTunes HERE . Meanwhile... [...]

I think it's safe to say Tinie Tempah has made it. Following his incredible success with 'Pass Out' he's probably going to repeat it again by hitting the top-spot with his upcoming single 'Frisky' when it drops on Sunday - June 6th. You've probably already seen the video and the original track itself has been getting quite a few plays on the radio as of late. The Shy FX and Benny Page remix is the third track on the single and I actually think it's better than the [...]
Some more bands were added to the Oxegen lineup today. There's something for everyone as a whole host of genres are covered. The highlights for me have to be Biffy Clyro (their album Only Revolutions was one of my favourites of 2009), Jamie Lidell (whose latest Compass is not as good as Multiply or Jim , but is still a decent album), and Delphic (who were listed in this year's BBC Sound of 2010 Poll) Just added: Chipmunk Biffy Clyro Plan B Tinie Tempah Dirty Projectors Delphic Gabriella Cilmi Wild Beasts [...]
If you're a longtime Gorillaz fan, one thing that irks you about its live show is the utter lack of Del the Ghost Rapper, a.k.a. Del the Funky Homosapien. With all the dozens of specials guests Damon Albarn has brought on stage, he can't get something together with Del just one time to perform Gorillaz' breakthrough debut single? Well, Gorillaz performed "Clint Eastwood" this past week on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross (along with "On Melancholy Hill"), and still no Del, but Albarn recruited British grime rapper Tinie Tempah to perform a newly-written version [...]

Grime music. Probably not all that familiar to my American readers. However, here in the UK it is absolutely massive. In this piece I'm going to take you through the biggest artists, almost all of whom are East Londoners, and some of the best songs. I will warn you now though, it's not to everyone's taste.. Anyway, without further ado, welcome to Grime... Wiley is the best place to start. The self-proclaimed father of grime is responsible for my personal favourite track, Wearing My Rolex. It's not lyrically all that impressive, but it has [...]
Chiddy Bang is a duo from Philly that has received some love from the blogs and recently got a record deal with EMI. I still am on the fence about them but this song has been one of the better I have heard. The video doesn't have too much to it with the guys projecting [...]
Hands Up Who Cares , our monthly club night, is back next friday (21st of May) at The Library in Islington. We’ll be spinning tunes by Crystal Castles, TV on the Radio, WHY?, Foals, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Two Door Cinema Club, The XX and loads more Cougar favourites. Entry is free to everybody registered as ‘attending’ on the [...]

As Tinie Tempah enters down a dodgy but possibly lucrative path, trying to pass out an inferior doppelganger of his massive hit as the next single, we can be thankful for small mercies such as this little flex over the absolutly monsterous new Nas & Damian Marley single... plus he's got his other voice back too. SBTRKT is causing waves in the 2-step/future garage scene aswell as all round the electronic world. His sound combines elements of techno to grime and I think that's exactly what I dig at the moment. SBTRKT is as mysterious zorro at the moment, no idea of anything about him apart from he's had releases on Brainmath , Young Turks , Ramp and grabbed the first release on Sinden's new label with a collab with the captain S himself, on Grizzly . And he wears some Jumaji mask. ' Midnight Marauder ' and ' Kind [...]

I never got a chance to finish that last Loose Ends post, so I wanted to throw some more music at you. Check it out. Here's a new one from DC native Marky. This time around he flips some Johnny Cash. Marky - Run On | YouSendIt Apparently this dude Tinie Tempah is big in the UK, but I only heard of him recently. He went from grimy to mainstream, but apparently he's done it quite well, because this sounds like a hit. If Young Money [...]
This is gonna blow up and become a hit. Same producer and hence, similar beat and production to Pass Out . I said it here first. Back to back #1's for Tinie. Good look.
