British singer Elton John has dedicated one of his classic songs to Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon. Sir Elton made dedicated the song, Tiny Dancer, during his 1 August concert at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Witherspoon, her two children and boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal were attending the show when Elton made his surprise dedication. The group were all on their feet through much of the outdoor show and were even shown on the big screen, much to the approval of the rest of the music legend's fans. The actress is in Philadelphia shooting [...]
I had a much more difficult time compiling the list this week than I did last week, and I have several theories why. Most importantly, I blame the fickleness of the British music press. They are always in such a rush to heap praise on the latest thing to come along (and all to often turn on these same bands within about 3 months of their debut release), meaning that many, many bands get hyped at some point or another as the next big thing. Most of them don't make it, but they are often far from overlooked. Add to [...]

Another song from the amazing Regina Spektor tonight, who I am still completely smitten with by the way. The anti-folk/indie artist released Carbon Monoxide as the first single from her third album Soviet Kitsch . Soviet Kitsch, released in 2004, was Spektor's first major-album release. I was sucked into this song right from the get go with an introduction that reminded me of a mix between Elton John 's Tiny Dancer and the Eagles ' Pretty Maids All in a Row , two favorites of mine. Plus it didn't hurt that [...]

Following the "unprecedented success" of the first Tiny Dancing Podcast , the excuse of approaching Christmas was not one we could pass up. Despite the stacked odds from the previous night, including Stardust's medieval romancing, Debris' nocturnal wandering and Dancer having to break into his own house, we would not be deterred - and so please be humble and joyous for Christmas favourites, the best songs of 2007, and something a little bit special at the end. Merry Christmas. We love you. Tiny Dancing Christmas Podcast [...]

What happens if you put three men in a small room with one microphone, some cds, eighteen bottles of beer, and one packet of Hula Hoops? Why, this of course.

In the world of music, a musician's originative location is often irrelevant. As long as you can play an instrument or write songs, that is all that matters. Though the past has seen discriminatory causes where an artist is ignorantly grouped in with others of the same birthplace, modern times have auspiciously ceased such ignorance significantly. With thanks to growing media and rapid technological standards, you could now find an artist hailing from California who plays country-folk just as easily as you could find a songwriter from Nebraska performing surf-rock. While small towns may have suffered from a lack of [...]

I've actually been buying loads of new stuff in recent times, a whole bunch of 7" singles and albums on CD, and sadly haven't really had the time to listen to them far less cast a critical ear and then crochet a few cliches and invite ridicule in the comments sections of TVV. I will endeavour to catch up over the next few weeks, but in the meantime the backlog just grows and grows and grows.

Amongst all the music that gets sent my way, there are inevitably single tracks here and there that are enjoyable in themselves but for which it's difficult to write an entire post about. So instead of letting them fall through the cracks into obscurity, I'm throwing them all together like a bowl of Jambalaya (one of my favorite dishes) for your enjoyment. A lazy post from me today. I was sent this mp3 the other day, and I thought that it was decent enough to post. The band are Tiny Dancers . They're from Yorkshire, and apparently they didn't get their name because they're massive Elton John fans. Crap name though - I wouldn't have given them the time of day if I hadn't got round to downloading the song. Anyway, it starts off quite well - nice measured moody opening. Sparse basslines. I'm beginning to think 'more gloomy 80s indie'. Then the chorus builds, the keyboard swells, and [...]
Check out this new band on Parlophone called Tiny Dancers . No, they didn't name themselves after that sweet Elton John song (remember that scene in 'Almost Famous' when Mark Kozelak starts singing along? Classic cinema), but I wouldn't hold it against them if they had. Combining a shoegazey aesthetic with a pop sensibility that brings to mind other british bands like Pulp and Snow Patrol. Check it out. Tiny Dancers - 20 to 9 You can buy their debut EP 'Lions [...]

Tiny Dancers are a 5-piece band from Sheffield, Uk, that will release their first commercial EP "Lions and Tiger Lions" on november 20. Their music seem to be influenced by at least 3 decades of popmusic history, - the melodic focus from the sunshine pop of the 60s, the sweet folk influences from the 70s and the post punk of the 80s. The band have recently toured with their labelmate Richard
