A Singer Of Songs just started a Youtube account . There are just a few videos up now (including this great animation that was done by Ariel Victor for ‘Road To Nowhere’). There are also a couple of videos in the works for tracks off of the soon to be officially released ‘ There Is A Home For You ’ album. Which you’ve all pre-ordered by now, right? It’s on vinyl and the test pressings sound magic (it’s also on CD and digital, which are equally magic sounding).

No Direction Home Festival || Welbeck Abbey, Nottinghamshire || 8-10 June 2012 The omens were not good for the inaugural No Direction Home music festival, setting out in heavy rain that only got heavier as the traffic got slower the further north I went. However, despite the slate grey skies and constant brake lights of the M1, a journey of over 5 hours was rewarded on arrival by a break in the weather than unbelievably lasted for the whole three days. No Direction Home is a new “little brother” venture [...]

My boyfriend is still in the UK playing shows and it feels like eternity, I wouldn't be surprised if he's picked up some kind of hybrid midwest/english accent. I really hope he does. He was telling me about a show he played with a band called Tiny Ruins, and suggested I check them out. He knew me too well because the band is led by the moving vocals of Hollie Fullbrook, sometimes achingly quiet, she sings folk like she was made for it. Listen, below.
As you read this I will probably still be speeding northwards through the torrential rain on the M1 heading for Sherwood Forest and the inaugural No Direction Home music festival. Having spent the last two years happily enjoying the fantastic End of the Road festival, my plans were scuppered for a hat-trick by a sneaky move in dates making it clash with our first overseas family holiday in years to the beaches of Spain. Thankfully, the same folk are behind this one so despite the rotten weather forecast, hopes are high for another fantastic [...]

This evening I'd like to talk to you about Tiny Ruins, the performing name of Hollie Fullbrook. She's originally from Bristol and emigrated when she was little to New Zealand. In a recent 6music interview she said how this probably influenced her songwriting, on account of the stark difference in surroundings and the isolation of Wellington, her new home. In between the talking, she played one of the most impressive live sessions I've heard in a while. It had me down tools and just stare at the little radio I was listening to the whole [...]

The Handsome Family || Bullingdon Arms, Oxford || May 25th 2012 You never quite know what you’re going to get at a Handsome Family gig. The venue was an old familiar haunt, quite cataclysmically changed from yesteryear – and not in an altogether good way. (Though thankfully, the Back Room of the Bully now has air con, which on a sweltering Friday evening in May is just what was needed.) It all made me feel quite sad to my gills. Mind you not quite as sad or as sick as a pint [...]

Going to see the lovely Tiny Ruins today . Looking forward to that. Especially since it almost didn’t happen. We had a train booked to go down to London last night and we missed it… by seconds. Our taxi got caught up in traffic and by the time I picked up our tickets, the man in the hat had already blown his whistle. And apparently there is no turning back once a whistle is blown. Even if you are standing right there beside the train before it starts to move. Catching a bus down today. [...]
The amazing Tiny Ruins has come all the way from New Zealand to do a little European tour . It starts this Thursday in Glascow and if you happen to be in any of the cities she’ll be popping by, you’d be wise to go check her out. Even if you don’t live in one of those cities, you’d be wise to book a trip to the nearest one. I’ve yet to see her live, but I’ll go out on a limb and bet it will be quite the enchanting experience. I’ll be hopping a train down [...]

Tiny Ruins From : Aukland, New Zealand Those who know me will vouch for the fact that I'm rarely lost for words but New Zealand folkie Hollie Fullbrook, via her Tiny Ruins pseudonym, leaves me speechless. Her pitch perfect Little Note is just such a simple, well written, beautifully sung, perfectly played song. Hollie makes this music lark seem so simple you wonder why everyone can't be this good. I then stumbled across her imaginatively titled Priests With Balloons and was completely blown away. [...]

Being sick is terrible. I've been fighting something nasty since Tuesday. Luckily the worst was out of the way fast - after recording a 101 degree temperature Tuesday night, the fever subsided and I've slowly returned to a state that's manageable. I was still a bit stuffed up on the 25th, but by 10pm all that was left was sniffling and the occasional cough - my regular voice was back. On November 25, I decided to do something a little different. Not only would I tell a few stories about [...]

Tiny Ruins - You’ve Got The Kind Of Nerve I Like In the midst of going through all of our shit and deciding what to keep, what to give away and what to throw out, a package arrived in the mail. A package that immediately landed in the ‘what to keep’ pile. This isn’t the first time I’ve posted about Hollie’s beautiful music, nor is it the first time I’ve posted about Some Were Meant For Sea. But this is the first time I’ve held [...]
