pic Tinyfolk - I'm A Monster No, not in an emo, self-hating, 'no one understands me', hormonal bedroom kind of way. Literally. He's a bear. Letters have no Arms has its own bear story, which you should remember to ask about if you ever bump into us. This song is taken from Tinyfolk's new (and rather brilliant) album Black Bears ( which 'isn't about black bears, but also kind of is'). If you [...]

The polling for Tinyfolk's Commissions closed just one week ago and we've already got the finished cover. Two versions of

I think some people may have been confused about the top 50 songs list. It is in alphabetical order. I know some of you may hate that, but hey that's how I roll. However, I realize fifty songs is a lot to track down. So to meet you dedicated readers halfway here is my TOP TEN songs of 2008 IN ORDER to d/l and enjoy as a mix. You better enjoy it. 1. "Thus Always Horses"-Tinyfolk 2. "Can't Believe it (Feat. Lil Wayne)"-T-Pain 3. "Anywhere [...]

This is a segment I hope to do once a year where I pick one artist I really admire and trace their journey through that respective year. Naturally for 2008 I chose Indiana's Tinyfolk, Russ Woods and (sometimes) Meghan Lamb. It's no secret the praises I sing about Tinyfolk and how much coverage I have allotted to them, but trust me when I say Tinyfolk is the most interesting DIY act out there right now. 2008 was a unique year for Tinyfolk, chock full of releases, but only one true album. Is this indicative [...]

Yes, this is my film, but hey I want to show you kids what I've been doing so I won't feel so bad about ignoring the blog for the last month or so. Features a song by Tinyfolk in the trailer and will be released in March! Links: Film updates here! Tinyfolk on Myspace!

As this site has progressed over the year or so I am disappointed that some of the weekly smaller segments have completely dropped off. That's why in the midst of everything I need to do I bring to you all, this "catch up" mix of some of the single songs that have caught my ear in the last month or two. Tinyfolk-"Bubble Guns" A cover of a Hello Shark song, this song kind of picks up for Sic Semper Equis left off. It's marvelous and downtrodden; the darkest techno song ever. I [...]

View from The Studio, my venue of residence in Isla Vista, California. Hey kids I'm back in good ol' Santa Barbara and maybe, just maybe I can get back on a regular schedule. Then again was this blog ever on a regular schedule? Foggy Ruins Of Time is now a year old (actually a few days ago, but still)! I remember being inspired by so many blogs out there who sadly aren't with us anymore. But, I shall carry on the torch and continue bringing you faithful readers the most [...]

What can you expect when you first visit a site with a slogan like " The Collective Family would rather have their music heard, not sold"? Well: *227 Artists *32 Labels & *333 Releases all waiting to be discovered! For today we picked two bands from their vast catalog, but no doubt there will be more in the future. Stay [...]
Trembling Blue Stars "Coming Up for Air" (The Go-Betweens cover) The Dirtbombs "King's Lead Hat" (Brian Eno cover) Girls Aloud "With Every Heartbeat" (Robyn cover) Guess who's going to the Robyn show in May? ME! Guess who's glad it isn't a Girls Aloud show instead? Me again! I'm also the one who wishes she could coax any of her singer-type guy friends to videotape themselves covering Robyn songs and add them to YouTube. Like this: [...]

The Maine "I Wanna Love You" (Akon cover) Ahhhh, true love! Be sure to serenade anyone windin' and grindin' up on the pole with this modern love song for the ages. The Bordellos "My Love" (Wings cover) Society Burning "Lovefool" (Cardigans cover) This makes me want to tease my hair, put on combat boots and go to Neo tonight. Del [...]

Released in early 2007, Tinyfolk's Little Mice And Other Things That Go Skitter Skitter is an album caught in transition. Containing qualities of his earlier twee pop glee with the grander production and themes of his more recent releases, Little Mice And Other Things That Go Skitter Skitter has a striking intimacy brought to fore so beautifully due to it's presentation. Let me just tell you now, the first four songs are flawless. Starting off things familiar and joyful, "Love Is A Thing," lulls you in with its adorable chorus and delicate verses [...]

A note on Wee Pop! Records. They are in their own words "a brand new label dedicated to limited run, lovingly hand crafted, assembled and numbered, wee tactile packets of lo-fi POP!" When I first heard of them on Retrolowfi I knew they were right up my alley. The reason I love lo-fi music in general is because the kind of care and love that goes into every aspect of production. And Thor and Camila from the UK have lots of love to give everyone. But, now on to their fifth release! [...]

Tinyfolk's new album Bill is the most epic lo-fi album I've ever heard. For the uninitiated Tinyfolk comes from the mind of Russ Woods (and sometimes Meghan Lamb) and is from Indiana. On occasion Russ's voice reminds me of Daniel Johnston, but his standard instrument of choice is a baritone ukulele . As Tinyfolk he writes quirky, cute songs with a dash of longing behind all of them. I've had the pleasure of playing a show with him a few months back and he was so nice and just as adorable in person. But I should get [...]
![[The Grates]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/206764_lg.jpg)
Now I said that I'd put a proper post up on The Grates once I had the time, so here it is as promised. The news of their UK tour really couldn't have come at a better time as I've been waiting for a good newsworthy reason to post on this wild group from Australia. Ah yes, Australia - I told you that it was a fun countrinent. Next to boomerangs, the country's largest export is, after all, condensed euphoria, and The Grates are just one of the many forms that product is delivered. As I've read, whenever [...]
