Following the 20JFG company outing to gaze in awe at Chris & Cosey last week, a certain amount of spring cleaning has been going on. Emotionally and physically destroyed by the experience at Heaven we have retreated into the depths of our cavernous backlog to wait out the tinnitus. Sorting through the selected ambient works and the brittle minimal synth melodies, we stumbled into a warm Psyche embrace. 2013 Psyche to be more precise. Tjutjuna to be blunt. Mousetrap, the first track on Tjutjuna's album Westerner is nothing if it's not coiled intent. The gentle bobbing [...]

The time has come to mentally prepare yourselves for a night of face-melting psych epics, as Tjutjuna opens for Japanese psych legends Acid Mothers Temple at Bottom of the Hill on Friday, May 10. San Francisco's own 3 Leafs will open. Following a couple lineup changes since the release of their self-titled debut in 2010, Denver's Tjutjuna (pronounced "choo-choo-na") is releasing a new instrumental psych-rock album called Westerner , out April 30 on Fire Talk . The [...]

Denver's Tjutjuna was laying low for some time, but we are pleased to find out they were up to awesome things while in hibernation. After several line up changes, the withdrawal of a founding member, and the addition of a new touring drummer, Tjutjuna is seemingly eager to get back in the pool. We are thrilled to stream their entire new record, Westerner, out April 30 through Fire Talk Records. Westerner opens with a rapturous droning intro before weaving in and out of bli...

In keeping up with the world this week, we found out that M.I.A. is keeping a "STEALING LOG" of everyone who may or may not be ripping off her styles, all the buzz surrounding Frank Ocean's collaboration with Depeche Mode's Martin Gore, learned that Morrissey's March 1 Staples Center show will indeed be meat-free with a statement that, "all McDonalds vendors shall be closed down, and the only thing burning shall be my heart", while we continue to mourn the loss of...
Tjutjuna is entrancing me with this new track off of their upcoming LP Westerner. "Mousetrap" is the perfect name for this song as it really feels like it's closing in on me the longer it goes on. The way guitars and depth build is a big part of the feeling of being surrounded by sounds. Mogwai is what comes to mind with what I'm hearing especially in a lot of the sounds that Tjutjuna has put together. I don't think there is anything wrong with that comparison because of there is one band that [...]

Tjutjuna - Mousetrap These Colorado heads make the kind of music that works really well the later it gets into the evening. Sludgy psychedelic manna for the spiritspace. Get their new Westerner LP from Fire Talk Records for delivery on April 30th. Don’t miss ‘em on tour with Acid Mothers Temple this spring. Previously: “ Desert Song ”
Denver rockers Tjutjuna's latest single, "Desert Song" comes out on November 6th. read more

"Desert Song", the new track from Denver pysch masters Tjutjuna, is the first taste of the group's second LP. Like a sand storm, the track is quick and exciting, and maybe a little scary at times. The long, whirling guitar parts flirtaciously play on top of the fast bass and percussion, resulting in a track thats easy to zone out to. The whispering guitar hits make it easy to forget where you are—Tjutjuna manage to bring you to the deep deserts of the Middle East, even if jus...

Of all the Area Codes we've done so far, Denver is the biggest city, so it's probably not a surprise that it has one of the richer histories of anything in the series. Before the jam band craze of the early-to-mid '90s, Denver was long established as a friendly, scenic city conducive to folk acts (Judy Collins and John Denver) as well as jazz (Bill Frisell grew up there and Ron Miles is a mainstay). Now, the scene is kaleidoscopic and prolific, its components ranging from forward-thinking house music to exploratory psych-rock to jam to extremely left-field [...]
