Californian punk-rockers Social Distortion will maintain their presence on the road this year, as they've just revealed tour dates extending through May. These guys have been pounding pavement since dropping Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes a year ago. Their last leg of dates saw the four-piece playing with acts like The Avett Brothers and Foo Fighters, and this new stretch will feature equally varied tour-mates. Stop number one will be January 27th in Vegas, where the band will play with Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, [...]

The random mid-90s alt-rock compilation; is there any better source for oddball rarities and bizarro obscurities? It's thanks to this trend of "let's package as many bands who we think the kids who like Nirvana might like together and see what happens" we have albums like No Alternative , with Soul Aslyum's awesome take on "Sexual Healing" and that crazy Carpenters tribute record with Sonic Youth's cover of "Superstar." Chairman of the Board , a collection of alt-rock groups taking on standards made famous by Frank Sinatra, doesn't have any classic cuts like those records [...]
Yeah we're a little behind. Anyway, in light of this trailer I saw last night, which brought me way way back...thought I'd supply you with some 902s alt-rock a la American Pie the original (remember when the music we listened to involved real instruments?). Harvey Danger - "Flagpole Sitta" The Toadies - "Possum Kingdom" Blink 182 - "Dumpweed" Green Day - "Brain Stew" [...]

This evening, one of the more interesting rock bands to ever emerge from Fort Worth, Texas is playing the uptown club . The Toadies have been around since the late 1980s , but disbanded in 2001 only to reform in 2008. This uncompromising group's music revolves around the songs on singer/guitarist Todd Lewis . Their first album produced an unlikely hit called, "Possum Kingdom," but their second release, Feeler was rejected by Interscope Records, the band's label at time. Last year, they re-released the album. [...]

Tweet For folks who love alt-country music, or go out to see live bands in the Dallas area, this band needs no introduction. They've been going strong since 1994, when they released their first album "Hitchhike To Rhome". That's not a spelling error, it's a little Texan town outside the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, population 1967. Before you write them off simply for being a Texas country band, note that they've had songs on the TV show Scrubs, they have fans like Rob Thomas (Matchbox [...]

Honestly, I'm not a huge connoisseur of the air waves in our nation, but occasionally there are those days when I rush out the door without my iPod and I have to suffer the pain that is radio. Recently, with my hectic schedule, this has happened more and more, so it left me to ponder why on Earth some bands still get ready play, and more so, some certain songs. I thought of my top five, and while some are song specific, others just need to leave the airwaves in general. [...]
