Okay- I've been working on a website around the clock for the past 5 days or so. I finished it, so I can get back to things I should be doing- like rocking the freebies Tobias Froberg's people sent me a week ago. It sounds, from these two tunes, that someone got Tobias to channel the popness for this go-around. I doubt the whole album will be as unbeat (in sound, at least) as "Blissful," but whether it is or isn't, you know it'll be a good record if you've ever heard Somewhere in the City . Labeled "01," [...]
On Tuesday Foals will be playing at Train in Århus (Denmark in case you've never heard of this city before). Enter the contest at Frekvens.dk if you're interested in winning a couple of tickets for the concert. + Electric Bloom (Loud Pipes Remix) If you like the above remix, you can download another 41 different versions of the same song at Last.fm . That Death Valley Sleepers track I mentioned yesterday [...]

I'm not a fan of the long-night / short-day. Well, I wouldn't mind the long night if it started later in the day, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I thought I'd make note of the winter solstice, because even though it's the shortest day of the year, it means that every day it will get dark a little bit later, which I find to be its most redeeming feature. 1. Doves - Snowden - Another mixtape favorite, Doves are simply epic melodic rock in the vein of Snow Patrol. Ok yes, maybe some Coldplay. Get over yourselves, people! [from Some Cities | buy ] 2. Ticonderoga - Snakes - This was one of my original assignments over two years ago, when maybe 5 people listened a week, but it remains one of my favorite songs. It's got one of the best building sequences in music, adding layers on layers of unexpected sounds and melodies. It's really [...]

Johnathan Rice I Wouldn't Miss It For The World Like a more confident Elliott Smith. Like a wordsmith who hasn't quite found his own imagery for the first verse so borrows others. This song could perhaps be considered cliché, but when delivered with such honesty, reminiscent of Between The Bars , well, I'm not complaining. Are you? Ambiguous and delicate, softly strummed, lovingly whispered, it ends with a promise - the motif throughout the song - "when you die I will come looking for [...]

I love this song. I f**king love it. It stirs feelings of longing and loving and warm hands and how one person can be alone, but two can be a tiny universe of secrets. It sure doesn't hurt that it bears a rhythm that gets you swaying back and forth, and a melody that makes you think you can sing (or me, at least). Tobias Fröberg , thank you for this song, it does what music has done for me since I was a child, it makes everything better. I have [...]

Tobias Fröberg has been compared to Paul Simon, which I guess would make frequent collaborator Linus Larsson his Art Garfunkel (sorry Linus). Together they craft sparse, timeless songs that examine human relationships with that same kind of calm candor that Simon and Garfunkel had. Tobias has a new album out called Somewhere in the City , which you can listen to in its entirety on the Cheap Lullaby Records site and purchase through the usual commerce links below. The MP3s featured here are from 2004's For Elisabeth Wherever She Is . Great soundtrack for a solo [...]
Here is the first 'Soundchecked' mix of mp3s. This selection of songs is featured in my debut column for Soundcheck magazine, a magazine called, surprisingly, Soundcheck. It's a young music mag based in the cradle of indie music, Austin, TX. Okay, maybe cradle isn't the right word... but it is the home of the internationally renowned indie music fest, SXSW. And if that doesn't make it the cradle,

Feel like having one of those whirlwind romances with a song where you instantly fall in love with it's pop melodies but burn out on its simplicity within a month? Well, have I got the song for you. Tobias Fröberg is a Swedish pop merchant who, on Aug 22nd, will release his second album. It's titled Somewhere In the City and contains the song I'm all hot and bothered by recently, "When the Night Turns Cold". Imagine Jose Gonzalez with frantic bongos, back-up singers, [...]
Tobias Fröberg's debut solo album "For Elisabeth wherever she is" never did much for me. It's not that it was outright bad or anything, it just seemed to me that Tobais was doomed to mediocrity. Sweden has a lot of talented singer/songwriters, but there's only a few who are truly exceptional. Well, imagine my surprise then when I heard Ane Brun's excellent "Deuts" album. Tobias plays and sings on a good portion of that record, so I knew had to reconsider my earlier evaluation of his work. Coincidentally, he just released his sophmore album "Somewhere in the city" (on Cheap [...]

Tobias Froberg - For Elisabeth Wherever You Are We frequent blogs to find new music to feed our addiction. Yes you silly stupid labels, this actually translates into more sales. The more we hear, the more we need. Where do music junkies go to get their fix? Pitchfork, blogs, myspace, and itunes. The more samples you give us, the more we'll be on your door begging for another dose. Recently through Music is Art (no surprise) I found a new artist to sink my fangs into. Tobias Froberg is another artist from [...]

recently i was sent some music from sweden's tobias froberg 's 2nd album *somewhere in the city* and decided to take a listen. i was taken back at first... as i truly enjoyed one of the songs -- this doesnt always happen very often. his collaboration with ane brun is one of the prettiest and most painful tracks ive heard all summer long. the way her voice mixes with his, its truly magical. this is true [...]

His story sounds eerily like that of Jose Gonzalez. An artist from Sweden that no one here has ever heard of gets his song on an electronics commercial (granted, no where near as cool as Jose's Bravia commercial) and gets a good amount of press and airplay in the States. Leaves Sweden for small US tour. That story is the story of Tobias Froberg . A Swede with great pop sensibilities. This is wonderful little pop song that I think you will enjoy. MP3: [...]

True. False. Which is it? Don't know. I have been sleeping a lot but I've been keeping late hours recently, so it evens out. I was awake for 21 hours yesterday, so why didn't I post on the blog? Bit of a break that's all. Well, to make up for it I'm going to update you with what's been breaking into the mainstream recently and getting well-deserved radio coverage. First, the title of this post is from a Regina Spektor song called "On the Radio" , which she played on BBC Radio 3 quite recently, and the [...]
