THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: The Kills w/ JEFF the Brotherhood, Hunters Wednesday, February 1 The Masquerade - 695 North Avenue in Atlanta 30308 Admission $20 / Purchase Tickets You'd think that Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince would have run out of ideas by now. But over the course of their four studio albums and four EPs, the duo have managed to turn their decidedly [...]

Spirits and the Melchizedec Children, New Animal, Little Tybee, Today the Moon Tomorrow the Sun. One place. One price. Tonight at the Earl. Be There.

This year I had much greater difficulty putting together a list of my favorite local albums than I did a non-local list. And that makes me proud. Not proud for myself, of course, but of this city and the wealth of musical talent it produces. There were more genuinely great local albums produced in 2011 than I can ever remember in my eight years living here, and narrowing them all down to a reasonable number proved to be a much more arduous task than I ever could have thought. And yet, here we are. The caveats and criteria [...]

2011 was the year I dove headlong into local music. I listened to just about everything I could get a hold of, scouring through Facebook, Bandcamp and Soundcloud in my attempts to discover as many local artists and as much local music as I possibly could. But even now I feel as if there's so much out there that I'm missing out on. New bands and artists seem to to be sprouting up every day and the landscape of Atlanta music is constantly in flux, morphing and shifting into something unique and different. And so while the list [...]

Back in 2009, I listened to approximately 75 records that came out of Atlanta that year. This year, I blogged about roughly 75 records, and for every album I discussed, there were at least five I listened to and didn't blog about. The quantity of music being made in this city is growing exponentially, and the Atlanta music scene runs extraordinarily deep. So needless to say, this was the most difficult year-end list to put together yet. On a technical note, my 2011 year-end list eligibility extends through the 2010 holiday season because I like to be [...]

Pleased to be a (very) small part of the collective behind this event. It will be a great night with some potential surprises still in the works. In order to give all four of these great bands a chance to thrill you the music will start promptly at 8:30. Get there early and get your tickets here .

Now that this blog only covers local music, I decided that all of my year-end lists this year will be Atlanta music specific. There's plenty of sites that do national/international lists anyway. So then, this is my 40 favourite songs of the year by artists affiliated with Atlanta. I spent a lot of time with each of these songs, and if you are unfamiliar with any of them, I strongly suggest you click on the song titles below to give them a listen. 40. "Black Leaves" by [...]

Electronic. Indie. Dance. Pop. Rock. Today The Moon, Tomorrow The Sun is all about the collaborative. It’s about the connections between sound and people, it’s about the heart and the head. It’s for mistakes and triumphs, and against arrogance and under-confidence. A band of four: two girls, two boys. Noisy, dancy, loud, sincere, sweaty, lovable, hardworking. After three EPs and endless touring, it was time to put what they’d become to physical memory: a record they could be overwhelmingly proud of and their current and future fans couldn’t stop listening too. That result is WILDFIRE [...]
