This week, typically, is very busy/difficult for me. I've just come off a 5 day college football bender and over the next 3 days I have to do 2 fantasy football drafts and submit three lineups prior to Thursday night. Good times are ahead though. Good times indeed. NFL kicks off this week and my Seminoles will take the field on Saturday in one of the few "sure things" on their schedule. Last week the monthly Lucero Message Board compilation was released. Of all the comps we've done this is the best one we've ever done so far [...]
I can hear a Todd Snider song and it will be stuck in my head for weeks. Here is the song that has been on continuous reply in my brain all weekend. Horseshoe Lake.mp3 Buy: Step Right Up (1996) http://myaimzistrue.blogspot.c om/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss
Yeahhh big release week. Something like 85 releases. We've been buzzing about The Showdown for a while now, so you should probably check that out. I'm looking forward to Lykke Li 's twee-pop deliciousness and the Fiery Furnaces 2-disc live album. Also, The Toadies are still alive? Someone tell me what that's about. Oh, and that Lee "Scratch" Perry album was produced by Andrew W.K. so it should be... interesting. :: 31Knots , Worried Well (Polyvinyl) [...]

First, the poster for Alan Ball's new HBO vampire show was released. A few days later, the one-sheet for the Diablo Cody-penned horror flick "Jennifer's Body" came out. But the inspiration for both could have come from the artwork of Sas Christian , and in particular, the 2007 work called "M." If you the crop out the same part of the woman's face, the three images are pretty identical. Sas has been painting porcelain-faced women almost exclusively for nearly a decade now, and [...]

unfortunately for common market , our real song obsession this week comes from a forthcoming album by tennessee troubadour todd snider called peace queer . the song, as you can see, is "mission accomplished," and it burnishes a heaping dose of snider's trademark - and endearingly droll - humor pointed, as you might guess from the title, at the absurdities buried within our tragic creation and handling of an ill-gotten war. there are too many worthy lines to quote them all here - not too mention it would spoil all the fun of a [...]

Somewhere between my last trip to the record store and while researching for my last Album Release Forecast , i've realized something that really makes my needle hard... No, no..... the one on my record player. Vinyl Is Making A Comeback! You may have noticed from the heading pictures on many of my posts that i have a slight affinity for the Vinyl [...]

If you check the archives, i've only got 1 previous album release forecast ( here ). But i did, in fact, write two of them. One day, my second one mysteriously disappeared. My guess is some of the tracks i posted got some people angry, and instead of coming to me, they went to Blogger, who then removed the post - no questions asked. But thanks to the i nternet and all its archiving glory, you can still find remnants of it - like here at Elbo . ws [...]
Got a link to this in my inbox this morning. check out more videos at MyDamnChannel.com It's Todd's newest song, America's Favorite Pastime - about Dock Ellis who, to the envy of many, once threw a NO HITTER on LSD . Amazing. The song is from Todd's forthcoming album, Peace Queer - out August 19th . . It will carry a theme that he is [...]

Haven't done one of these in a while. i've been pretty short on time this week, so no in-depth posts requiring a lot of thought are in the works. That's why i started this Playlist Pulse thing anyway - to get some songs out to the people in a simple way. Today, i'm pulling from my Slowies playlist. It's simply a collection of soothing, slow-paced songs that i often use to fall asleep to. That's not to say that the songs are uninteresting, just very calming. In fact, i often [...]

Todd Snider: Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues [ purchase ] Modern folk troubadour Todd Snider channels Arlo Guthrie in this half-spoken tale of rock god rise and fall circa the Seattle grunge movement of the late eighties and early nineties. The lyrics poke fun at grunge rock and its players, but like Guthrie, Snider has a bigger target in mind: underneath the hilarious send-up of the "alternative" label and grunge pose (pensive) and hairstyle (long, over the face) is a cohesive, biting social commentary on the commercial phenomenon [...]

My birthday is officially over now......... This is the first year that i really haven't been all that excited for it. Maybe it's because my birthday was also a dreaded deadline for a looming online class. Maybe it's because it sorta also marks the beginning of the rest of my life and the real world. Who knows?? Today i got to: • wake up early and go to the dentist • run a few errands • drive 2 hrs away just to pack up some shit and drive back But [...]

Time for another Playlist Pulse . This time from the one titled grooves . These are simply those songs that make you tap you boots, drum on the desk, or just bob a head. Whether it's the plunk of a banjo, the beat of a tom, or the groove initiated by a plugged in guitar, it's hard not to move to these songs: 1. mp3: The Be Good Tanyas - Rain & Snow [...]
In honor of Jess' first-ever visit to the left west coast, I offer up some of the choices tracks about the jewel of the pacific. Sadly, some much-needed key songs about Seattle are missing (by Anti-Flag or Jeffrey Lewis, for example), so if any of you have these, feel free to share the love. Songs about Seattle (and her neighbors): Nirvana - Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle.mp3
On my way into work this morning I was listening to my community radio station. I guess the DJ went outside to smoke or something but after 2 songs there was easily 2 minutes of dead air after which the DJ came on and said; "That was Todd Snider's grunge rock song. Sorry about that." Good save. Todd Snider - Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues

So late last year, i invested in the biggest (160 gigs) iPod you can buy to store all my musical goodness. And to keep my computer running clean, i only kept about 1000 or so of the most essential mp3's on my hard drive - the rest was on my ipod, which i basically used as an external drive. Then one fateful day about a month ago, iTunes froze up on me. Instead of being patient - which i have a hard time doing - i ejected the iPod by right clicking on the [...]

Well, crap in a basket and call me Pappy, it's almost Friday! And hey, Todd Snider is coming to town! If you're in the Phoenix area, and you're free on Sunday night (a long weekend for MLK Day), join me, the wife and some friends down at the Last Exit Bar & Grill in Tempe. $15 to see Todd Snider? I'll take it.... I'm looking forward to seeing him. He's a singer/songwriter from Nashville (originally from Portland, Oregon) with a sharp, witty sense of humor - a performer sort of in the same vein [...]

So American Idol is back, but the song choices are often harder to take than the singers themselves. So here is a list of songs that you will definitely never hear at any point on the show. Bastards of Young ( The Replacements ) Gouge Away ( Pixies ) One More Dollar ( Gillian Welch ) Methamphetamine Blues ( Mark Lanegan Band ) Heartland ( The The ) 'Cross the Breeze ( Sonic Youth ) Here Comes [...]

photo: senor mcguire in a perfect world this man would need no introduction, but unfortunately you say the name todd snider and its typically met with a vacant, glossed over stare. i really dont know what to attribute his lagging popularity to? he has an uncanny ability to pen lyrics that can make you laugh and cry, sometimes in the same song, he is wonderfully skilled musician, he's not ugly, and i hear he's a good dancer. so, what seems to be the problem here? right place, wrong decade(s)? the highest compliment i can pay to any artist [...]

Thursday features take the week off… Since this is like the first full week you have probably worked in a while, I figured you might be in need of some party music by today. I made this mix at the tail end of '03, made up of songs that came out that year. 1. Andrew Bird ~ Skin 2. Zwan ~ Baby Let's Rock! 3. Ben Harper ~ Bring The Funk 4. [...]
