By Rob Crozier (words) & Laura Mukabaa (photographs) May 27, 2013 The final day rolls around. By now we are feeling a tad groggy to say the least, so we start at the free open air stage known as the Hub . This is situated right in the centre of Brighton and huge crowds pass by as Saturday shoppers mix with Brighton Festival folks and our ‘friends’ the Morris Dancers burst into an impromptu performance. Unsurprisingly this does not help our fuzzy heads. We plump for Jacko Hooper [...]
UK songstress tips us on her favorite up-and-comers.
Things had been very quiet on the Deadboy front of late. Then, seemingly from nowhere, the brilliant "BLAQUEWORK EP" arrived on Numbers last month and now we have a rather tidy Toddla T rework too. It's a lovely summery slab of garage tinged house goodness and while Shola Ama's vocals work well, it's the dub that's doing it for us around these parts. Available now at Juno .

Shola Ama is somewhat back. She has a new sex-tinged single titled "Boyfriend." Back in the day, we actually met Shola Ama when she was going into the Met Bar after a Janet Jackson concert. Yes, we said hi and all and she loved every minute of the paparazzi. Then, we heard she trash talked Janet Jackson to the press, allegedly. Anywho, here it is! ] Filed under: Audio GaGa , Beats , Brit Brit Brit Tagged: business , Disc jockey , [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Exclusive Spinner Instagram SXSW 2013 was exciting. Usher played with Afghan Whigs , A Tribe Called Quest opened for Prince , Justin Timberlake went accoustic, Lil Wayne ruled via rumor mill and some of our favorite artists took over Spinner's Instagram account to catalog it all. We started things off with [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , RPM Skream The day is nigh. The 27th annual SXSW is upon us. While this year is a bit more brand-heavy than previous years (Doritos' 62-foot, tweet-powered vending machine/#BoldStage will be making a return, thankfully) there's twice as much dance/electronic music this year, and we've put together our top picks. This year boasts a veritable British [...]

Monday Music’s the one weekly post wherein Some Of It Was True! drops its London-only rule Rhye - The Fall Smoky, languorous pop from the enigmatic LA duo, interspersed with some summer-fete instrumentals. The vocal-based swirl and smudge of it all reminds me faintly of Nico. Wu Lyf - Triumph After an apparent goodbye note from singer Ellery Roberts to his three amigos displayed on the band's [...]
London songstress Ayah Marar gives us a tour of her BlackBerry.

Roses Gabor has been homing in on her very own debut single ever since she peppered her vox across productions by breakthrough Brits SBTRKT (on "Pharaohs"), Redlight (on "Stupid", and "Love Sick"), and Shy FX (on "Raver"). With Redlight back on the beat proddy for her, Gabor has dropped "Stars", a moody bass tune rubbed with industrial undertones that groan and clank - gets you right in the bones. The track nods its way along with some big round bass and an ominous synth that plods about, dodging a half-stepped beat. There's also a shrieking, twitchy radio sound cuts through [...]

“DJ Pipes and Ross Orton are two of my biggest musical inspirations/heroes. This is a secret dream come true" - Toddla T. When Toddla T was asked if he fancied the label commissioning producers for a remix album of “Watch Me Dance” he had a much better idea. He asked two legends of the Sheffield underground music scene, Ross Orton and DJ Pipes, to agitate, smash and rebuild his album in the manner of the scene that shaped his sound. Toddla met Pipes when he was a wide eyed teenager working in a skate shop in [...]

Toddla T , Cleo Sol and Scrufizzer did a video for their carnival anthem live at Notting Hill Carnival and it's perfect
Toddla T x Cleo Sol feat. Scrufizzer - “Code To Crack”

★★★☆☆ Not remixed, edited or revamped, but agitated , which is absolutely the right description when it comes to the prospect of Sheffield’s digi-dub blazer Toddla T laden with extra bass. Bumped, hustled and re-skinned, stretching the sound system template like '60s Jamaica has been brought back by flux capacitor are respected hometown historians Ross Orton and DJ Pipes, at Toddla’s own request for a double soundclash that reinvents Watch Me Dance while jamming together dancehall from back to front. Doing heavyweight speaker boxing on opening two re-skanks "Fly" and [...]
