If Tokyo Police Club took their signing bonus from Saddle Creek and moved to Scotland with intention of playing nothing but surf-rock and post-punk, they would have become Tango In The Attic and written their glittering and shabby first single, "Mona Lisa Overdrive". It is a washed out take on angular guitar pop with the same vaguely confessional vocals that sound like something broadcast
"In any other city in the world/tonight it gets dark/but not in Liverpool/because I'm looking in your eyes". So goes the charming introduction to Death At Sea 's "Sea Foam Green". Perhaps somebody should tell front-man Ralph Kinsella that light pollution has, in fact, spread to most of the world. But, lack of awareness regarding global environmental issues aside, there's not much to complain about when it comes to Death At Sea. In fact, it's tough not to agree with the grounded analysis of Bido Lito! , who recently claimed that the [...]

Good things come in tens, not threes. At least that's the way I look at it. Yet, that statement makes this playlist title make even less since it's Vol. 1. and there are no others. Yes, we plan on making more. We wouldn't tease you with a Volume 1 and hold all of the rest back. That would be like Jay-Z coming out with In My Lifetime, then going dark on us. Not cool. We get it. We won't let you down. We'll start our Vol. 1 off strong. Our list holds up to its name too because [...]

Jonquil caught me off guard with their name. "Its so strange," I thought. Then I decided I have to give them a listen with a name this strange. Lucky for me, their music was relaxing and soothing to the ears. A very relaxed and melodic indie band, Jonquil is a band I recommend everyone to listen to. Their album, Point Of Go , begins with a song called "Swells." This song starts with a quiet synth with a snare-less drum beat. The vocals ease in and sooth your ears. You suddenly realize that you are dancing [...]

Time and good karma have a funny way of repeating themselves sometimes and coming full circle. Here and now is one of those times, as we tell you the tale of Paper Garden Records' first ever release and the Lovely Hearts Club's newest addition - former Eagle Seagull front-man, Eli Mardock . Eagle Seagull was the inspiration and jumping off point behind Paper Garden Records ' entire existence back in 2005. The town of Lincoln, Nebraska brought the two together, and from there both parties grew into their early [...]
Where has good old generic, straightforward, catchy, fun indie rock gone? I've been listening to a lot of Tokyo Police Club these days—re-visiting their two full lengths and earlier EPs. I haven't had such a fun listening experience in too long of a time. I prance around like a little maniac, matching the boys from [...]

Tango In The Attic embody the type qualities of some great post-90s Modern Rock bands from both sides of the pond. TMOT's top 5 albums of 2011, in no particular order 1. Bon Iver, Bon Iver Forget Emma, forget Kanye, forget the Grammys, forget the cabin in the woods. Jubilation is not apparent in Bon Iver, not at first. But how else could "Towers" be described? It's a gorgeous love song, and despite the occasionally unintelligible [...]

Justin Broadbent In an age where many young bands seek to get on the expressway to your skull immediately after their first rehearsal - assuming they rehearse instead of just uploading jams to Soundcloud - you have to appreciate a band like The Wooden Sky . They've taken the time to hone their songcraft and live show since forming as Friday Morning's Regret in 2003, and with their 2009 sophomore full-length If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone and its attendant endless touring regimen, have positioned themselves as [...]

The L.A. boys get ready for some globetrotting.

Foster The People have certainly taken over that King Hipster Award these last 12 months. Last week they release a new funny & lovingly-jokester video, featuring Precious (i wonder how her baby is doing) for, "Don't Stop (Color On The Walls)." Today they've announced a world of tour dates for 2012. Watch below & mark your calendars too, because I doubt you will be able to get away from them next year. You might as well give in, also, everything you need is HERE ...: [...]
