Listening to the self titled debut album of White Shoes and the Couples Company will make you swear that you've been transported back in time to when bell bottoms were groovy, the Love Boat was cruising the high seas, and flower power seemed destine to replace our dependency on gasoline. Even if you weren't old enough to be consciously aware, this music will bring it all to you. Because of their uncanny ability to capture a cultural past, it's hard to believe that the group actually hails from Indonesia. That being said, [...]

That title may make it sound like I'm going to go off on current events again, but if the best the world can throw at me this week is "Unfitney", then screw that. Instead, we'll start off this week's MP3 finds from the wonderful music blog world with some nostalgia for when we almost had real televised journalism: Egg City Radio somehow managed to dig up 33 tracks of vintage 1978 bed music from ABC's "World News Tonight" . While the tympanies and horns are probably still embedded in your head, check out some [...]
"There was a time when performing in Las Vegas represented the absolute pinnacle of any show-business career. In the early 1960s, when Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack were shooting the original Ocean's 11 during the day then singing the night away at the Sands , the city could claim to be the capital of the international entertainment industry. It was even hip." (dg.travelnow.com/) Elvis Presley - Viva Las Vegas Ann Margaret - It's A Nice World To Visit (But Not To Live In) [...]

Get ready to cringe. Okay, so what we have here is two sixtysomething veteran singers attempting to connect to 'the kids' today (and gain some quick publicity), and what better way to do that than covering popular, edgy rock hits, their way? I'll reserve further judgements to you. They might be the type of covers you play once out of curiousity and then hit 'delete', but at least it's interesting to...um...listen. Tom Jones - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor [...]

So I have featured Sex Mob's Bond music a few times here at The Late Greats. Might as well throw in a few real Bond songs. Shirley Bassey ~ Diamonds Are Forever Duran Duran ~ A View To A Kill Garbage ~ The World Is Not Enough Tom Jones ~ Thunderball More Soundtracks

Covers are a fine thing, especially if well executed as a tribute to the original. For me covers shouldn't be about making a perfect replica of the original, although Placebo would argue otherwise. Covers should be about your appreciation of a song and how you would convey the message the song sings. It doesn't have to be vastly different it just has to be stylised to the covering bands persona otherwise its just the original sang by someone else, like a teenager with a hairbrush! We Are Scientists have absolutely no grasp of Icelandic (I [...]
If you're a guy thinking of cutting off those luscious Shannon Hoon locks you've been growing since your sophomore year of high school, what better way to go out than in a blaze of glorious mulletry? That's definitely what this guy did in a wonderful bit of photo-chronicling (what did we do before the Internet?). Also check his endeavor to consume locally and scramble up a pigeon egg instead of his normal chicken fare. Not to give away the story, but he writes, " All in all, pigeons, I was let down by [...]
Non so come ha fatto a sfuggirmi fino ad ora una perla del genere: Tom Jones che al concerto in onore di Lady D rifà I bet you look good on the dancefloor degli Arctic Monkeys. Se vi piace Tom Jones, non è neanche male. Tom Jones - I bet you look good on the dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys cover) (MP3)

A varied selection of artists, from Lily Allen to P. Diddy, performed a memorial concert for the late Princess Diana last Sunday at London's brand new Wembley Stadium . The event even included Tom Jones (apparently a favorite of Diana) covering the Arctic Monkeys' "I bet you look good the dance floor." -- have a listen.
What? You want something patriotic? Cable & Tweed has you covered . 01. Michael Stipe - The Last Day Of Our Acquaintance (Sinead O'Connor) 02. The New Amsterdams - Thirty-three (Smashing Pumpkins) 03. Tom Jones - I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor (Panic! At the Disco) 04. Taj Mahal - Honky Tonk Women (the Rolling Stones) 05. Lambchop - Beyond Belief (Elvis Costello)
Unchained Melody is one of the most iconic songs of all time. The writer of this song, Lyricist Hy Zaret, passed away yesterday at the ripe old age of 99. In his memory, I found some of the more well known renditions (and there are a lot to choose from): Elvis Presley, Righteous Brothers , U2, The Scene from the movie Ghost , Tom Jones, and Engelbert Humperdinck. There are two other songs which I had always attributed to others were in fact [...]

Filed under: News , MP3 Spinner.com : It took a bit of rock & roll nobility in the form of Sir Tom Jones to show those young whippersnappers how it's really done, in his performance at the Concert for Diana, which took place Sunday at London's Wembley Stadium. At the star-inundated... Read more

Shortly before the star-studded Princess Diana tribute concert kicked off yesterday, Sir Tom Jones spoke about his desire to play an Arctic Monkey's cover. The second song into his short set he unveiled his Arctic Monkeys rendition - a track that Jones would like to release as a single later this year. Check out the cover - it's a really great version and having Joe Perry on guest-guitar doesn't hurt. [MP3] Tom Jones - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor (Live [...]
Lately I've revisited what I thought was a long-gone obsession with Yazoo's Upstairs at Eric's album. It's generally the first LP I think to throw on the turntable when I'm doing housework. And it's as awesome as ever. Here's a little tribute: 01 Terminal Choice "Don't Go" (Yaz/Yazoo cover) 02 Blind Before Dawn "Too Pieces" (Yaz/Yazoo cover) 03 The Hi-Fives "Bad Connection" (Yaz/Yazoo cover) This [...]

Last week, I talked about the fertile ground that tribute albums allow for artists to attempt interesting/faithful/experimen tal renditions of songs that are already known and well-loved. In most cases (before MP3 blogs like this came along to save the world), you'd have to buy the tribute album to get a hold of (probably) just the one or two tracks you were interested in hearing, as most times, the only other way the band will release the song is on a B-side of a Japanese version of a single, if that. The other equally fertile grounds for [...]
Plans to move Burberry's production from Wales to somewhere else entirely - China, probably - is continuing to disquiet the Welsh: Tom Jones has written an impassioned letter to the Welsh Assembly calling for them to do all they can to make sure the unpleasant, overpriced brown-checked cloth continues to be manufactured in Treochy: "As a local boy, I know how important this factory has been to the community in the Rhondda. "I therefore urge the Burberry management to withdraw their plans to close their Treorchy factory." [...]

Today's post is in honor of the newest James Bond installment, Casino Royale . Daniel Craig is an awesome Bond, and Casino Royale is a badass flick. They've finally gone back to the espionage-style film as opposed to the "Let's see all the new gadgets," and Craig's Bond is equal parts frayed and flawed, which is a nice touch. One of the more fun aspects of the Bond series, however, is the music. Each Bond film's theme is performed by a current artist of their time, and the official themes have ranged [...]
The organisers of an attempt to gather together the most people with the same surname in one place (no, we're not sure why they're doing it, either) have banned Tom Jones from their get-together. On account of his not being a proper Jones: "Tom was on our list. But we heard he wasn't born a Jones but took it as his stage name." Tom never officially changed his name; he's going to have to wait until someone organises a Woodward get-together. music tom jones
I appear to have lost all of the mp3's posted on SaveFile, including the Triffids tracks posted (insert swear words here), so it's back to YouSendIt and a shorter mp3 availability. Them's the breaks in the world of free file sharing services. I have also decided to start a new variation on an old method, posting multiple versions of the same song, the original and several cover versions, with the music and very few words. I'm starting with a classic from Huddie Ledbetter, better known as Leadbelly [...]
