A parceria teve dois momentos: The Waiting e saideira American Girl . E a coisa poderia ter sido melhor ainda, já que [...]

I missed a lot of class during my junior and senior years of high school. My friends and I, much like the prison escapees Gail and Evelle in Raising Arizona , felt that the institution no longer had anything to offer us. (especially now that we were mobile) We had our escapes down to a science. We worked through some office connections to erase any evidence that we had been absent or I would provide faked doctor's notes using the nom de plume Dr. A.E. Lifeson, DDS, an homage to the [...]
Learning To Fly - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Close my eyes. Time to sleep through this flight. Eyes shut for a minute. Mambo number five in the aisle bounces off my head. Wakes me up. See something white on ... Continue reading
The story of Regina Spektor's rise to pop stardom is something that you might find as the plot to a Disney movie. The quirky piano-pop queen was born and raised in Moscow, learning about Western rock and pop music from her father's bootleg cassette tapes, while becoming quite adept at playing the piano. At the age of nine, Spektor's family emigrated to the United States, during Russia's period of Perestroika, landing in the Bronx. Without access to a piano of their own right away, Spektor practiced anywhere she could, which included playing a piano in the [...]

Recently, the television provoked me into doing some research on one-hit wonders of the '80s. As I live in the States, I noticed some of the striking differences between those with one Top 40 hit in the US and the UK. Thomas Dolby and Tom Tom Club each only had one hit in the UK (as is the case here in the US). However, in the UK, those lone hits were Hyperactive and Wordy Rappinghood , respectively – neither being the songs that were hits here. (that would be [...]

You've got to hand to the folks over at The Onion's AV Club . Since debuting their Undercover series back in 2010, they've gotten an impressive array of indie-rock bands to come and tackle songs from the likes of Wilco to Neutral Milk Hotel to Starship to Hall & Oates. The pop culture-centric site has once again invited 26 bands to come into their offices to tackle a song from a predetermined list, which this time around has everything from Harvey Danger's Flagpole Sitta to Steely Dan's Rikki Don't Lose That Number to The Arcade Fire's Rebellion (Lies). Once a [...]
Tuesday, December 13, 2011 2011 has been a great year for music, and I’ve enjoyed so much of what it had to offer. However, along with the new music I enjoyed, I also discovered a lot of music that I totally stupidly slept on. Whether it was the artist or just the song, apparently I just wasn’t paying attention at the time. So here follows that top ten songs (in no particular order) that I’ve been jamming on this year, that did not come out this year. - [...]

Last night Dawes concluded their co-headlining tour with Blitzen Trapper at the Music Box in Hollywood. The band’s return to their hometown seemed to be perfect timing, as lead singer and guitar player Taylor Goldsmith hardly had a voice after the 2-month stretch. Somehow though, Taylor’s voice was hardly affected, and his incredible tone and energy moved the crowd to a soul shaking sing along; necessary at any proper Dawes show. Their hometown show also attracted some heavy hitters in the music industry, both on stage and off. Industry figure and author [...]

As we closed in on Thanksgiving in 1982, I imagine that it seemed as though summer had never happened and never come 'round again. We were housebound more as raw days of wind and cold, stinging rain were a November staple in our part of the Midwest. For one of the first Novembers of my life, I had the radio to help battle the restlessness of being a kid confined to quarters. Casey Kasem and American Top 40 was a drowsy weekend morning staple. But there were sixty songs beyond the ones Casey counted [...]

Scheduled to take place from February 1-4 at Bowery booked venues [...]
