Sharon Van Etten teams up with her tour openers for an A.V. Club cover.
Shearwater and Sharon Van Etten turned in a great contribution to the Onion's AV Undercover series. This great pairing chose to cover the Tom Petty / Stevie Nicks song "Stop Draggin My Heart Around."

One of my favorite things on any music website is The AV Club's Undercover series , which is ready to begin its 2012 installment. 25 new songs have been chosen, but they begin the new run with a bonus track: Sharon Van Etten and Shearwater teaming for "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," originally by Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks. Check out video below, and, yes, it is as good as it sounds. Sharon Van Etten and Shearwater cover "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"

You didn't think SXSWi was going to let the music panel have all of the FUN., did you? Our SXSWi correspondent, Whitney Van Cleave, is still down in Austin and she's taking in as much as possible. Her day 3 journal at SXSWi laments her lost opportunity to scoop up Jigga tickets, but not all was lost. "SXSW is always a hot mess of excitement and frustration when it comes to seeing the bands you want to and the bureaucratic process of accomplishing that among lines, lists, endless RSVPs and a general state of chaos. We write from our hearts, which happens to be something that we strongly demand from any bands that are covered on these blog pages. There are few rules to earn your place on The Recommender, except that you have to be bloody good and write your music with integrity. If we like you then we write you, and today's recommendation has our hearts properly hooked. We're certainly not the first online commentators to point this duo out to people, because they've enjoyed a building swarm of online coverage as we lead up to their debut album. They've earned [...]

As mentioned , Regina Spektor is releasing a new album titled What We Saw From the Cheap Seats , which is due out this May. The album's lead single, "All the Rowboats," which has some pretty huge drums, can be streamed below or downloaded from iTunes . That's the single's artwork above. She's got some upcoming dates this spring with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers . None of those are in NYC but she'll play her own show in the NYC area before the tour [...]

Even back then, I could tell. There may not be many people around who remember Peter Accident and the Duck Revolution , but I do. Most importantly, I remember the spiky-haired, freakazoid guitarist, sliding across the stage on his knees at the High School Talent Show, shredding away on his Telecaster to some homemade punk song far in excess of the limited talents of the band around him. That was Chuck Prophet . And even then, I could tell. Walking through the halls of high school, it was [...]

That's right folks, it's Monday again... Sigh... Yes, already. So yeah, you could fight it, but it's so much easy to give up, isn't it? This could help keep you unmotivated: 1. Nick Drake: River Man ("Five Leaves Left," 1969) 2. Pink Floyd: If ("Atom Heart Mother," 1970) 3. Beck: Guess I'm Doing Fine ("Sea Change," 2002) 4. David Crosby: Orleans ("If I Could Only Remember My Name," 1971) 5. Simon & Garfunkel: April Come She Will ("The Concert In [...]
With an official artist announcement set for 12PM ET , we'll finally know for sure who will be performing at Bonnaroo this June in just a few short hours. As usual, the last few days have been filled with fake-outs and rumors galore. While we wait for the reveal, which will take place through Spotify , we thought it was fitting to post this kickass version of The Waiting performed by Tom Petty and Benmont Tench at the 1986 Bridge School Benefit... Dave Grohl has many talents. Looking convincing while dancing to Deadmau5 is certainly not one of them. Whether or not film making is one of them remains to be seen, but we might get a good idea today since his documentary about Sound City has released its first trailer. Sound City pays tribute to the legendary Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, Los Angeles and the countless classic albums recorded there, which include After The Goldrush , Nevermind , Queens of the Stone Age , and Rumors . Plenty of musicians [...]

Dave Grohl has got some of the coolest friends in the world. How do I know? Because they're all in his new documentary. Down below is the trailer for a doc called Sound City which was directed by the Foo Fighters frontman and focuses on Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, CA. The studio was shut down in 2011 but not before some of the biggest names in rock recorded some legendary albums including Nirvana's Nevermind . Grohl said of the studio, "That place was like a church. [...]

Amazon Flashback: 2004. Ottawa singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards has made a bit of a name for herself with her debut album Failer the year before, and perhaps seeking to solidify the lucrative "people-who-buy-their-CDs-whil e-buying-coffee" demographic, contributes a song to the Starbucks/Hear Music-assembled Sweetheart: Love Songs compilation. This places her alongside artists like Aimee Mann and Josh Ritter in recording love songs covers, just in time for Valentine's Day. Edwards chooses to reinterpret a Tom Petty song from his 1989 solo album, Full [...]

Dawn Landes is one of my favorite people, hands down. If she wants to cover Tom Petty, then I'm all ears. Thanks to the folks at Live & Breathing for their wonderful work.
Lightbox Sessions has debuted a new performance and interview with Chicago power poppers Company of Thieves . Singer Genevieve Schatz and guitarist Marc Walloch performed a stunning acoustic version of Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down" before sitting down for an interview. Among the topics discussed, Schatz revealed that she still gets nervous before each Company of Thieves show. The 15-minute session also includes performances of "Syrup" and "After Thought" from the group's recent album Running from a Gamble . Tickets are currently on sale for Company of Thieves hometown show at the Metro on Friday, March [...]

The Wooden Sky have certainly found the holiday spirit. First they hosted their second annual, sold-out "Holiday Reveue" benefit show with Nils Edenloff of The Rural Alberta Advantage. Now they're back with a cover of Tom Petty's "Christmas All Over Again" for The Line Of Best Fit's Ho Ho Ho Canada III compilation.
