Niagara's L'amour à la plage is one of my favourite French 80s songs, and probably one of the best French summersongs ever recorded. It's sung by wet-dream-come-true Muriel Moreno, and sold over 200K copies when it came out in 1985. Belgian trio Mon Réa l just released a great cover of the track, one that will appear on their upcoming album. L'amour à la plage was covered earlier, by punkrockband Ludwig von 88 (by far the loudest version), by actress Virginie Ledoyen (by far the sweetest version) and by Toma & Api (by far the huskiest version). Take your [...]

Though Messieurs Oliver Fröschke and Rolf Witteler operate from Cologne's Quartier Belge, they have an avid schtick for music from France. True heroes, the German slacker impresarios were among the very first to discover the charm of the Nouvelle Scène Francaise in 2002 – the first Le Pop compilation (featuring Burgalat, Keren Ann and Benjamin B.) was nothing less than a revelation and sold a felt one million copies in my neighborhood. Eight years and four follow-ups later, Le Pop 6 maybe doesn't contain the same sense of wonder, but a bag of goodies all the way, featuring [...]

French duo The Shoes dropped their spanking new EP in our inbox sometime back and we only got about to listening to it recently. It contains their single " People Movin ", featuring Primary 1 with remixes from Siriusmo , Tom Deluxx , Monsieur Monsieur & Toma . It also has a b-side track " Bored " on it, which is from their upcoming debut album. The People Movin EP was released a few days back on Nov 9 [...]

People Movin is the latest in a string of electronic hits from the French (where else) scenesters The Shoes . Green United Music will release the pack November 9th with the Original 'People Movin', remixes from Siriusmo , Monsieur Monsieur , Tom Deluxx , Toma and a bonus track 'Bored'. Ruddy bass, organ haunt and simple percussion eqaute to a progressive although minimal and interesting 'pop' sound with the remixes giving it more dance presence. A rather charming release... The Shoes feat Primary 1 [...]

image: Simonb / Exsonvaldes Producing a remix of 1901 seems to be as EC as ABC but we still need a couple to complete the century. So keep on remixing hell for leather like Frenchman Toma did last night when you've been asleep. Mp3: Phoenix - 1901 (Toma Remix)
I tell you, I get no respect. Did you know that there are nerds on the Internet who are, at this very moment- writing about this website negatively!? Apparently my scribes against the "independent" music scene have touched the nerds in a very uncomfortable area. I've always figured that the more negative response I receive the more good I am doing. I think it's funny that I'm being called "retarded" after I called the nerds' heroes retarded! It's a cyclical name-calling match! I live for these Internet flame wars. And now, a mix tape for you. [...]

Guestpost! Roar on Toma : Toma's Basse fidelité (2002) holds up from beginning to end with crisp, quirky, and catchy pop sensibilities. Cinematic and lounge-y leanings are underscored by bleeps, filmic dialogues, and sampled instruments, but in a way where these elements seamlessly blend into melody and overall instrumentation. For this reason when Toma pulls musically odd tricks, they're never outrageous. Rather they're pleasantries much like pranks from a sweet-heart are when you feel only 70 percent up to them. Plenty enough to get you on the alert, regain some energy, and try a bigger [...]
