I don't understand what happened to Chachi. I mean, he started out so cool. Little brother to the Fonz! This was a guy that jumped over sharks on waterskis, fer chrissakes. So how was it that he went on to the ill-fated romance with Joanie. WTF?!?!!! (I wish I had this copy of Teen Beat... Van Halen, Styx, Rick Springfield, the Go-Go's, Joan Jett, and Journey! [...]
Tommy Guerrero - War No More You might remember skater-turned-tunesmith Tommy Guerrero from his previous appearance on MFR. Well, fortunately for right-coasters, he's coming to town! Unfortunate for me, since I'm actually on the left coast for the time being. But, in addition to the song above, we're giving out tickets and CDs to 2 of the four upcoming shows he'll be playing in NY and PA (hit the jump to see the full tour details in the full post). Y'all have been through this before, and so here's the deal. To win tickets to either the Johnny Brenda's...

2006 has been an amazing year for music, both on a personal discovery level, and on a widespread quality level. This fall has especially been fruitful...I've been making weekly stops at Bent Crayon to pick up at least 2 or 3 things pretty regularly since about August. Some of these newer purchases have made me re-examine the earlier part of the year, which started out just as amazing. For me, all this music overlaps in a gorgeous, haphazard way. From the CubikMusik archives, # Six. Artist: Tommy Guerrero Album: Soul Food Taqueria Label: Mo’ Wax ***This was cubikArubik's recommendation bakc in Issue # 6. "This is my second album from Tommy Guerrero (the first one being ‘ A Little Bit of Something ’) and this guy is going from strength to strength. With his signature sliding guitar sounds and heavy but smooth beats he doesn’t fail to grab your attention. With this album you can tell that his sounds have matured and that he has placed himself into the studio [...]

Ooooh-wee like a summer breeze. Combining crisp drums and soulful guitar playing, Guerrero's latest is definitely one of those end of summer, breath of sighing fresh air type of albums. Sometimes like a lament (such as "Tomorrow's Goodbye") and sometimes like a evening party amidst the turning leaves (like "Salve" with Curumin), this is definitely a solidly rewarding release. This is the first Guerrero album I've ever bought, and I'm glad I did. I can't call it a hip hop album or even that unwieldy term 'instrumental hip-hop,' it's more like a soul album in a lot of ways (check [...]

This is some awesome tuneage, yo. Smooth and solid, electronica and latin flavors. I could listen to this over and over, and I'm willing to bet you can too.

Someone once asked me what constituted a "summer jam" and my answer was simple: If you think Sinbad would be into it at Reggae Sunsplash. But since then, I think I've refined my definition of a quality June-to-September burner...with a little help from Tommy Guerrero. As a life-long New Yorker, ...
