Tommy Womack has just released the followup (almost a sequel) to his last. It's called NOW WHAT! and came out officially yesterday. I've been following Tommy for a couple years now - I missed the first go round when he was the in the band The Bis-quits and Government Cheese. But that's ok I think I prefer the more mature - more thoughtful Tommy Womack. Speaking of sequels the song "Wishes Do Come True" is a bit of a followup to the 2007 song "Nice Day". As another reviewer stated [...]
What could be cooler than having a band write a song about you in tribute? Well, as long as the song is complimentary of course. Here's some toonage that fits the subject! Toonage: "Grant Hart" - The Posies "Strummerville"- Stiff Little Fingers "The Replacements" - Tommy Womack "Johnny's Gonna Die" - The Replacements (live July 1982)
While I was on hiatus I enlisted my colleague TruerSound to curate the monthly Feel Bad For You comp for our friends on AltCountryTab.ca . TruerSound in turn enlisted the help of RomeoSidVicious and his mad programming skillz to turn the comp completely digital, with it's own URL and other fancy crap. TruerSound also enlisted the musical opinions of other friends/bloggers/jokers/sociop aths to contribute to this fine project, to make it more diverse and shit. Friends, I present to you, the February Feel Bad For You comp, complete with it's own website, [...]
I'm only tracking a few bands on Myspace, Facebook or Twitter. I'm just not that methodical or organized to follow more. For some strange reason the band Daddy is one of these few bands. I like both Tommy Womack and Will Kimbrough as solo artists. So it's a no brainer that I'd like Daddy which is the band that combines these two iconoclastic rock `n' rollers. I've written about the band here and their solo careers here and here . The band is pretty serious about their ReverbNation [...]
Get the kids in bed early - Wednesday, April 22 is alt-country night at The Fire! Come on down to check out scruffy turtle dove and despondent Flyer fan Scott McClatchy (my little brother!) with rock and roll lifer and noted author ( Cheese Chronicles ) Tommy Womack do their one man, one guitar heroics. You'll get two terrific songwriters spinning tall tales, with hearts bursting on sleeves, winning converts one pug at a time. It's intimate, it's cheap and if you actually get your ass down to Girard Avenue, [...]
I've written about a number of americana supergroups (The Resentments, Sometymes Why etc). They're usually comprised of individuals who are not household names in the real world, but are well respected in the world of roots music. The group called Daddy comprised of Will Kimbrough and Tommy Womack, is another such band. They have a new record coming out June 21 that as of yet remains untitled. It'll be their first studio release since it follows up the 2005 live release At The Women's Club . These two first teamed up in a [...]

Tommy Womack :: The Replacements
On his third solo record, 2002's Circus Town, Tommy Womack, former member of the Bis-Quits, recorded this sprawling paean to the Replacements. The song is full of allusions to classic rock tropes - album titles are incorporated as adjectives, and a full-on Dylan impression erupts at one point. But gently, lovingly, just as all the [...]

I Will Dare
After two days of reading I am now on page 95 of Jim Walsh's The Replacements: All Over But the Shouting, An Oral History. At first I didn't like the book mainly because of the style in which it is written. It literally is an "oral" history in that every paragraph is a quote from someone associated in some way with The Replacements , be it a fan, a musician, a fellow writer, or even a relative. Walsh did tons of research finding hundreds of old interviews from various magazine and newspaper articles [...]

Tommy Womack - There, I Said It!
Een veertiger met een lange carrière in allerlei bandjes, een aardige staat van dienst als het gaat om liedjes schrijven en vier soloplaten op zijn naam. Dat is Tommy Womack. Een grote naam is hij nooit geworden. Hij blijft er,...

This one appears here by request from my good friend Keith Morris . That's where I first heard it...sitting in front of the speakers at some "early as hell" hour in the morning (although I guess it could also be considered "late as hell" depending on your point of view) ------------ Amazon: Tommy Womack-- There, I Said It!

"There, I Said It" from Tommy Womack (ex Bis-Quits, ex Government Cheese)(Cedar Creek Music, Feb. 20)
There are two kinds of rock songwriters. Those that can create characters that inhabit their songs and those that place themselves at the center of the songs. I tend to connect most deeply with the later. Tommy Womack's new record, There, I Said It , is an example of the later as it addresses all his personal demons as well as some of the country's. Tommy Womack claims to be crazy. Todd Snider confirms it and that's enough for me. His hobbies include researching the historical Jesus and [...]
