London four piece Toodar will release their new single Ten Paces on December 5th and, it may yet be a month away, but a track this stunning needs to be heard. This is multifaceted music at its very best, exemplifying everything from engaging electro to gorgeous vocals and memorising melodies. It's the type of song that provides a slightly different, yet no less satisfying, aural experience each time you listen to it meaning that you may, like me, find yourself getting completely and utterly lost in the song for 3 minutes. They may be a new [...]

It's a poor reviewer indeed who has too much to drink at a show (particularly in a venue where a simple Jameson's will set you back the better part of a tenner: visitors to Old Street's Favela Chic, you have been warned) but nevertheless I can't be sure if it was overindulgence on my part, or under-rehearsal on the part of the bands involved that resulted in my impression of the track Flash Floods & Wildfire being something of a chaotic mess. At this point I'm inclining toward the former option, as both the bands in question, [...]

As per tradition (if something can be called a tradition if you've only done it once before...) here's my list of the top songs of 2010. Well, it's something of a misnomer, to be honest, as most of my favourite songs of the year have already featured in my Top 10 Albums post, so this is an opportunity to recognise the impressive efforts of those bands who weren't eligible for inclusion on that list. Some of these are good tracks from otherwise bad albums, others from records that only missed out by the skin of their teeth, and yet more [...]

If you've ever had a tune stuck in your head then you're perfectly normal, it would appear. There's plenty of scientific research going on at the moment to unravel the phenomenon of "earworms", as they're being called, and it seems that about 90% of us get one at least once a week. Sadly about 15% of us say their earworms are "disturbing" and up to a third think they're "unpleasant". Check out this link to find out more about the earworm research, as well as this episode of Radio 42s phenomenally excellent program Material World.* I know first-hand [...]
by teepoo Toys is a gorgeous song by Toodar from Elephant in London. For some reason their sound really reminds me of Imogen Heap except the if she was male. The video was basically made with a security camera on an electronic train set. The idea was to make the world look as it were giant buildings outside a train window. The video was shot at Goldtop Studios full of vintage instruments including the drumset in the video which is Ringo Starr's. There's something about the beat that makes this track so [...]
We got sent this track from London band Toodar the other day, and I've been rapt ever since the first listen. (I assume the band's name is pronounced "tutor" or "tudor" or "two door.") It's a haunting, acoustic number, perfect for the cold rain that's been falling for the past two days. Lyrically, the track [...]
