Brooklyn's Cameo Gallery is hosting a garage-rock lover's wet dream on Saturday, May 5th. Headliners, Wild Yaks bring their cheerfully haphazard, loud rock and unified choruses to the stage. Once already lovingly referred to as "Brooklyn's drunk folk-punk icons" by The Deli, their live performances are a guaranteed good time regardless of whether or not you're familiar with their tunes. Raccoon Fighter pave the way for the Yaks, with their rockin', seductive garage jams. Raccoon Fighter's big, raw sound and powerful guitars are soulful and even bluesy when combined with their emotive vocals. Self-proclaimed "American dance-punk [...]
Given that everyone in Vermont has the same area code - the state's population is only 600,000, after all - I could have easily copped out of spotlighting a single city in Vermont; the small state's fraught with interesting, tight-knit scenes like Brattleboro's punk nucleus and Bennington's folksier inclinations (shouts Mountain Man ). But, Burlington, for its size (40,000, good enough to be the biggest city in the state), is Vermont's unnaturally dense music hub; best known for launching Phish into the world, Burlington's maintained a robust music atmosphere since well before they got big, thanks to the constantly-refreshing [...]
Appalachian folk trio Mountain Man have recorded a stunning acapella performance of 'Holy Father' in a session for Laundro Matinee . The song is a cover, the original by Toothe Ache who are on OpenFace - the same Vermont label as Mountain Man. The video was filmed and edit by Doug Fellegy with Jeff DuPont on sound duties. This past Friday night, as you may already know, Neon Musical Insight and Stadiums & Shrines brought a night full of both expected and unexpected thrills in the form of an eight-hour long concert. It was both exhilarating and exhausting to say the least, but one that we found to be highly successful; Thank you to all who performed, and especially all of you that attended. We plan to make this idea a reoccurring one, so keep an eye out for that, and in the meantime, check out some personal highlights below. [...]

Tooth Ache : Skin - Vidéo

mp3: Tooth Ache - Skin Tooth Ache is Alexandria Hall of Burlington, VT. She released the "Skin" 73 back in August on Father Daughter Records and now the single has a brand new video. This is a strangely somber synth-pop jam that would be fitting for, say...an end of the world party. Check out the equally disorienting video below. tooth ache. | "skin" from WEIRD CANDLES on Vimeo .

tooth ache. = skin Father/Daughter Records support some class act bands and artists, and have released some really quality products over the past few months. I posted about tooth ache. a while back, and Father/Daughter has since released a 7" for her. This new video, which co-premiered both at Chocolate Bobka and Altered Zones, couldn't mesh with her aesthetic more if it tried. [...]

As I mentioned earlier I was privileged enough to see Jonsi play live in Salt Lake City a few weeks back. The opening act was the oddly named Mountain Man (it's a group of three younger ladies) and they started their set with a haunting acapella song. The song contained lyrics about falling ten hundred feet and a father and a son. The song stuck with me enough that a few weeks later I went on an internet hunt (which I never imagined would be difficult, but proved to be quite a trek). Regardless, Mountain Man and incessant [...]

them:youth - Toothache ( StardonE Midnight Remix) StardonE has taken the original tune that is what I consider fairly stereotypical for British dance pop groups and turns into a smooth jam that you might find playing at the chillest of the chill parties. With atmospheric landscapes, bumpin' bassline and lullaby inducing synths it's bound to get your head bobbin'. Listen to the original or a more hyped StardonE remix
This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it goes up on the site, but sometimes I get backlogged and can't get through writing [...]
