There are plenty of bands that wear their influences on their sleeves, to the point where their material could be mistaken for those who influenced them. Sometimes its an intentional homage, other times its accidental - a musician growing up on the exposure of his influences subconsciously copping their style on his/her own material: The unintentional tip of the hat. [...]
Toto has begun rehearsing for its 2013 tour, which begins on May 30 in Europe. David Paich and Co. will also be making a few rare U.S. appearances, beginning in late summer - something he says "almost feels like a homecoming after so long away." In this exclusive SER Sitdown, Paich discusses their plans to dig deeper into Toto's catalog [...]
Steve Lukather ends his terrific new solo album Transition with the one-take instrumental "Smile," and he recently appeared on the G3 tour with players who regularly put out entire albums of improvisational music. The Toto-co-founder says he won't be doing his own, though. "I always felt that there were guys who do it better," Lukather tells La Chaine Guitare. "You [...]

Justin Timberlake has spent the week as a daily guest on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon . In addition to his riveting musical performances, JT appeared in a hilarious skit with Fallon in which the pair are cast as their younger selves attending summer camp Camp Winnipesaukee in 1983. Fallon and Timberlake want to sing after "lights out" and offer up the Toto classic Africa... Toto guitarist Steve Lukather really enjoyed the homage to his band's big hit: [...]

Lo raggiungono anche Fazio e la Littizzetto. Poi un breve omaggio a Domenico Modugno con "Nel blu dipinto di blu" Toto Cotugno canta "L'Italiano" Vince "E' colpa mia". Ho indovinato ancora.

Steve Lukather, once one of the busiest sidemen in pop history, has seen his new solo album chart in the Top 20 in seven different countries. Transition is the guitarist's seventh project away from Toto, the band he co-founded in the 1970s. Issued last month by Mascot, the record debuted at No. 20 in Finland, No. 22 in Sweden, No. [...]
Toto is planning a 35th anniversary tour, and now so is former frontman Bobby Kimball - who fronted the band over an early period that included "Hold the Line," the Grammy-winning band's debut No. 5 hit in 1978. "I was the one who sang that song, and it's the first song that brought Toto into being a household word," Kimball [...]
For Steve Lukather, a confirmed Beatlemaniac, the invitation to join Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band was a no-brainer. But first, he had to break the news to everyone in Toto, the band he co-founded in the late 1970s. A first-call sideman for decades, Lukather had nevertheless been the band's stalwart member, the only one to have appeared on every album and [...]
A news item reminds me of some guilty musical pleasures from the eighties.
The tireless Bobby Kimball has just returned from a South American tour, and already he's got plans for another series of concert appearances - this time on the other side of the world. The ex-Toto frontman, posting on his Facebook page, confirms solo dates in January 2013 in Germany, then a series of appearances in February in Scandinavia and Budapest. [...]
2012 has been a busy one for Steve Lukather, who toured with childhood hero Ringo Starr; and with G3 alongside Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and John Petrucci. He even made select appearances with Toto, the mega-selling band he co-founded in the 1970s. Oh, and he's got a new album coming out next month, too. Transition, due January 21, 2013 from [...]

Are there any things, in relation to remixes, where - as my son says when another ball goes sailing over next door's fence - " mustn't do dat ". I would have thought that soft rock classic Horse With No Name was one. But Todd Terje did a nu disco remix that I quite like (though I suspect the wife and D wouldn't) and of course there's Lemon Jelly. In that vein, here's a remix from Nick Merenda that I would have said shouldn't be remixed - Toto's dreadful soft rock classic Africa - which comes [...]

For sure you've already heard before Satin Jackets & Chris Jylkke's edit of Toto's "Georgy Porgy." Let's say this is more like a guilty pleasure here. This is just one of those epic tunes that from time to time I start to listen all day long. There's no shame about that! Also, if you like [...]

Australian Cam Bianchetti (aka Late Nite Tuff Guy / HMC) loves all things engrossed in disco and the kinder strains of gorgeous techno. As LNTG , his capacity and range over new age disco landscapes fails not to excite, but instead revives & inspires those dormant senses of ours and re-strengthens those grips that made us fall in love with the genre in the first place. Throughout these four examples, Late Nite Tuff Guy takes us into his mind of Toto & Aretha Franklin balances, but always manages to come out the credible [...]

Late Nite Tuff Guy strikes again! This time he's dropped a marvelous extended edit of Toto 's Africa, a tune which any 80s baby will surely know and love. LNTG never fails to deliver on these re edits I'm still stuck on the Diana Ross Boy You Turn Me one we posted a while back! Now I'll leave you with the original video. Gotta love it!
We at MetalSucks are smitten with the hard-driving, big-charm debut album from Soilwork singer Bjorn "Speed" Strid and guitarist David Andersson's '70s-inspired hard rock posse The Night Flight Orchestra. Titled Internal Affairs, it's a warmly modern and aurally retro instant classic, a reel of tired departures and hopeful arrivals shot in soft-focus and soundtracked by feel-good [...]
