Kayo Dot – Coyote Neil Young – Le Noise Faust – Faust Is Last Ali Farka Touré & Toumani Diabaté – Ali and Toumani Wyatt Atzmon Stephen - For The Ghosts Within Scout Niblett - The Calcination of Scout Niblett Land Of Kush – Monogamy Paus – É uma água The Black Angels - Phosphene Dream Linda Martini - Casa Ocupada
IF YOU ARE A FAN OF MUSIC (and I'm talking capital-M Music in general, here), then you've probably crossed paths with an African musician's music from time to time. It may have been the afro-beat funk of Fela Kuti and Africa 70, the lost Senegalese nightclub band Orchestra Baobab or the Touareg performers in Tinariwen, and that's fine indeed. They are all incredible. But what really touches my soul, far and above the rest, has been the music of Ali Farka Touré . In his lifetime, the late guitarist had created some of the most [...]

O mestre a Kora regressa a Portugal.
Estava ontem anunciado na bilheteira do São Jorge: concerto de Toumani Diabaté, dia 30 deste mês, naquela sala.

Today we'll be joining the Malian kora master Toumani Diabaté for a concert in Istanbul. A bit late to inform but still if you see this one and you want to hear some sacred African music, you have to make it to CRR @ 20:00 . Also featured is Malian diva Oumou Sangaré who'll be releasing her new album Seya on Nonesuch soon. Here's a taste thanks to our friends @ World Circuit . 'Seya' is Oumou's first album in six years and critics have been raving about [...]
Diabate and the Symmetric Orchestra, elsewhere. One of my favorite listening moments of last year came at the tail end of kora player Toumani Diabate's stunning solo display, The Mande Variations. Afte... Continue reading "Live: Toumani Diabate Gives Pounds to the Crowd at Le Poisson Rouge" >

With each passing year, we find ourselves closer to the future. In fact we are so close that I can smell it (like chip shop vinegar, in case you are wondering). Before we get there, I feel strangely compelled to make lists, to document just what it was that made 2008 so uniquely rich with [...]
I for one can't wait to see Toumani Diabaté opening Bjork's rolling cultural revue at the cavernous (for me at least; I'm feeling agoraphobic at the thought of it) Hammersmith Apollo next week. I'm going to be jostling with the colourfully-dressed mobile-waving kids down the front to get a glimpse of this nimble-fingered wizard of the kora. [...]
