"Midnight on the Interstate" has always been one of my favorite songs on Trampled by Turtles' most recent album Stars and Satellites . After making this video for the tune I love it even more. It's cute.... ya I said it, cute. The Duluth area natives have become pretty much a household name throughout the state. In fact, when i used to think about the face of Minnesota music I used to immediately think of Atmosphere . Now, there's come times when I think Trampled by Turtles seems more appropriate. They're two completely separate [...]

The Homegrown Music Festival is one of few reasons for anyone outside of MN to travel to the cute northern-Minnesota town of 86,000, which acts as sort of a big-brother-city to the neighboring Superior, WI, just over the river. You could look at it like the "Up-Norte's" answer to the Twin Cities in a way, but with much less stuff to do. The annual event showcases varying styles of "rawk and roll devil music," as the fest's site proudly boasts, and, as these things often do, it all started as a pretty standard birthday party with just a couple [...]
One of the greatest music festivals in the world recently returned as a championship contender when they released their lineup for 2013. Lately, the festival seemed to rely mainly on its prestige alone. After all, it is a festival that spans over 11 days and has more than 800 acts performing on 11 different stages. The festival is a vision of the great late mayor of Milwaukee, Henry Maier, who wanted a massively relative festival that would compare to the joyous Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. He started the tradition that became Summerfest in 1968. The lineup [...]
Hailed as bluegrass royalty of the Midwest, the quintet that makes up Trampled by Turtles hasn’t seemed a bit star struck since their debut in Duluth, Minnesota. The band turned ten earlier this week and exhibits the same discontent and impatience with their own work that might be more attributable to a group booking their first show. In the past ten years, Trampled by Turtles has released six albums and risen to the top of the bluegrass industry. Without label support, the group sold over 70,000 copies of their latest album and in the [...]

Trampled By Turtles go back to High School
We were supposed to have Trampled By Turtles in for another HearYa session a couple of weeks ago. The car gods conspired against us and they weren't able to attend. Luckily for these kids in Lawrence, KS; that wasn't an issue on that particular day. I don't know if these kids know how lucky they were. Our session with Trampled By Turtles can be found here . Trampled by Turtles, with Carl Broemel - tonight at the Granada
Because of its terrible name and the people on my Spotify feed who stream its songs, I assumed that Trampled by Turtles was another shitty Mumford & Sons knockoff band. As it turns out, that's not entirely true, although it does employ a lot of acoustic instruments.… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]
Music on Television | 1.15-1.19
Sorry I'm a little late on getting this feature posted, I came down with a touch of the plague that has been going around our staff. Fortunately there were no Monday television performances worth catching, unless you're into boybands or reality show castoffs, so I've got the rest of your recommendations ready just in time. I know it's tough to keep track of all of the great performances on television each week, so every Monday (or, this time, Tuesday) I'll bring you a roundup of the best artists (along with a bonus pick or two). So get those DVRs set [...]
