METZ, WHITE LUNG, WL ( Holocene , 1001 SE Morrison) Breakneck rock at thunderous volumes is the name of Metz's game, so prepare to get blown to the back of the room by the sheer weight of the Toronto trio's sound. Also on board are White Lung, the charismatic, whip-smart Vancouver, BC punk band fronted by Mish Way, who's as badass as rock stars come.

Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard isn't the only member of the band working on outside projects. Guitarist and producer Chris Walla , who's been producing his own solo efforts since 2008, also operates his own label Trans- Records, and has some new material just in time for Record Store Day. Walla, as he is simply known, will release a 7" split with new Trans- Records member Sombear . Walla's vocal-less piano-driven 'Never Give Up' will serve as the more somber of the two, with Sombear's 'Incredibly Still' serving as a [...]
Tweet Oh boy, we love Chris Walla ! We loved him with Death Cab For Cutie (at the start we really loved him, less so later on, but there you go). And his solo Field Manual LP is REALLY GREAT. So news that he's releasing a split-single for Record Store Day (April 22nd kids) has got us excited. We can listen to it too, lucky us! Here we go, this is Never Give Up , a slow moving a really pretty number from Walla: [...]

Working alongside Death Cab For Cutie guitarist/producer Chris Walla, Minneapolis producer Sombear will release a split 7" vinyl this Record Store Day featuring the sparkling and surprising "Never Give Up" from Walla, and the more poppy "Incredibly Still" from Sombear. The split will be released via Walla's Trans- Records , which will distribute a limited 1,000 copies for the April 20 event. Additionally, the 7" comes before Sombear's full album release Love You In The Dark , which will be out later this summer. Stream both tracks below.

From pop to funk and R&B, Prince is a musician of many genres. I have to say, this raw and amped up version of his hit "Let's Go Crazy" fits him like a glove. He has four shows planned in two nights (April 18 and 19) at Shoebox and if this six minutes of instrumental perfection is any indication, those performances will be unbelievable. Steady, sober and beautiful,"Never Give Up" could be a Death Cab for Cutie instrumental played at half-speed, but officially it's Chris Walla's Record Store Day release. The below comprises side A of the Trans-Records ( Walla's own label) release, and a far more upbeat song called "Incredibly Still" by Sombear will occupy the B side. Stream both below. The 73 will be available on Record Store Day, April 20. Read more articles like " Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla [...]
Trans-Records is releasing a split 73 featuring "Never Give Up" from Walla and "Incredibly Still" by Sombear on Record Store Day. These are two pretty elegant tracks, with the Walla track (Chris Walla, guitarist/producer from Death Cab For Cutie) being quite a somber piano driven piece. It has this slow motion moving montage feel, like watching the grieving family after a tragedy has occurred before the final stanza of the film. It's quite beautiful, though simple, yet I'm sure you'll enjoy. "Incredibly Still" is more of a "song" in the modern sense. It features some silkily whispered pop [...]

While bandmate Ben Gibbard touring his new solo album as well as The Postal Service 's 10 year anniversary reissue, Death Cab For Cutie 's Chris Walla has decided to keep by releasing a new lone single for Record Store Day 2013. The guitarist has previewed this piano-led number, entitled 'Never Give Up', set to be released via Trans Records. [...]
Today's been a bit of a big news day for Death Cab For Cutie-related vinyl. Earlier, it was noted that the long-awaited Death Cab The Barsuk Years boxset, which was originally slated for release in January, was finally making its shipping rounds, but that more than half of the records were mislabeled. A listener throws on You Can Play These Songs With Chords and are greeted by the sounds of We've Got The Facts And We're Voting Yes -opener "Title Track." But in less confusing news, band guitarist Chris Walla is [...]

Minneapolis trio Now, Now, are excited to announce their April/May co-headline tour with Trans- Records label mates The Lonely Forest. The tour follows dates with Minus The Bear and Circa Survive, as well select gigs opening for Bob Mould as his personally invited guests this February and March. Now, Now are hitting the ground running this year after an incredible 2012 that saw the band make their late night TV debut on Jimmy Fallon, play to sold out crowds during their first headline tour of the UK, and their sophomore album Threads win numerous accolades including a selection [...]

I've talked often about being able to foot the bill for several Shorthanded Goals a month. It never really ever works out. Sifting through all the excess tracks and drawing out links and MP32s takes some time. While once a week is easy, more than once is hard. Today I have some time. This iteration of SHG is gonna contain both absolutely brand new tracks as well as some that were passed over in the past month. It's a track or two smaller haul, but still packing the same punch. Shorthanded Goals is a feature that melds the [...]
Every once in a while, in a mini-miscarriage of justice, an album will go straight to a FADER editor's heart without ever making it into The FADER itself—Now, Now's early-2012 Threads LP was one of ... read more
Here I am, left to go last once again with my favorite songs of the year. I feel as though I listened to more in 2012 than in any other year, and my musical experience was all the better for it. More music means more candidates, which admittedly makes lists like this one tougher. But [...]

"There was more pressure on us for Threads, it had been so long since our first LP..." Brad Hale - Now, Now. When Now, Now's co-vocalist and co-guitarist Jess Abbott recently admitted that "we run at a slow pace as a band" , she wasn't kidding. Four years after their fresh-out-of-high-school debut album Cars , Minnesota three piece are in a very different place: 33% larger (Abbott herself joined in 2009), on a different label (they are now signed to Death Cab guitarist Chris Walla's Trans-Records), and finally armed with a fantastic follow-up, Threads [...]
