This week saw Scottish DIY label, Overlook Records announce details of their 1st Birthday gig. Taking place at The Captain's Rest on Saturday the 2nd of June, they've lined up a hefty bill which features every member of the Overlook family, so that'll be Trapped in Kansas, The Darien Venture, Salò, So Many Animal Calls, Bellow Below and Vasa Crusades. Tickets for the gig are just £5, with seven bands on the bill you can't really argue about getting value for your money. With almost half of the tickets already sold, you'd be wise to get [...]

The Twilight Sad Kilsyth's finest sons are all set to release their much anticipated third album (proper), No One Can Ever Know, next month. Having heard the album I reckon it's going to take a lot of folk by surprise with the new direction they've taken. As a wee teaser of what to expect, you can download Another Bed from it for free via both the Skinny and Spin . Aloha Tigers! My good friend Ian, who used to run the blog Have Fun At Dinner has set [...]

And so it begins... I did warn you at the end of last week I did warn you that I would be starting on my numerous end of year polls. Following on from the success of last years series of posts I have decided to run my Artists Albums of the Year, which basically meant that I went back to any of the bands and artists that have featured in my Scots Way-Hay posts over the past couple of years. To kick us off here are the choices of Happy Particles, Discopolis, John Knox Sex Club, Come on Gang! , [...]

Firstly, a big, big thank you to everyone who came out to see Withered Hand, Samantha Crain and Mike MacFarlane (who now goes by the name of Flash Jr.) last night. It was bloody amazing. I want to start a campaign to get more big bands to Henry's to play a wee sweatbox gig with the crowd standing mere inches away from them. Anyway, due to Thanksgiving dinner and parental visitation reasons, I didn't get the chance to record the podcast this weekend, so I shall do it this afternoon, once I have posted this. And [...]

Released on Overlook Records, How To Go is a sterling offering from Scottish four-piece Trapped in Kansas. EP opener, The Man Does Wear the Mask sets the bar high, a sparse track that is made by the heartfelt vocals that sit over the echoing guitars. Trapped in Kansas are not too dissimilar from bands l... Read more..

I have been meaning to post about Trapped in Kansas for ages, but I kept waiting until I heard some of their new material before I stuck anything up. Having been impressed by their earlier releases, the Glasgow based four piece really have stepped up to the plate with their new EP, 'How to Go'. Having appeared at goNorth, T in the Park, Wickerman and Rockness, they certainly a band who are on the up. In anticipation of the release of their forthcoming EP, I caught up with the boys to get them to introduce themselves to you all... [...]

Sunday, the traditional day of rest. Staying in bed till lunchtime, filling up on fried food, reading papers, and watching around 10 hours of football. Sunday also tends to be the day I ignore gigs, until they are particularly tempting. Have you ever tried using public transport on a Sunday? It's rubbish. This week has decided to mess my my plans though, by throwing three very tempting gigs at me. I also have to get up early to help a friend move house, but that part presumably doesn't apply to the rest of you. At MacSorelys [...]

There are certain moments that define your life, it's the little things that tend to stick with you. One such moment for me was the last Define Pop festival at the Flying Duck, yes I got drunk, saw lots of great bands and danced like a total fanny (there is video evidence of this, but I'll be fucked if I am going to actively share it with you). More importantly for me it was a day were I got to meet and make friends with a lot of great people. If I hadn't been there, then I am pretty sure [...]
[Three more videos below.] Lach's famous New York open mic night the Antihoot is responsible for launching the careers of many of the bands people who read this site love the most. He is, in fact, the man responsible for terms like anti-folk and the movement it represents. I have to confess I find this kind of odd. The term is something which has been so ingrained in my musical vocabulary ever since I started writing about music that the idea of it having been invented so recently seems really rather odd. This is one of those weeks where I think that I really haven't got much on, but then I look at every single evening and they all look jammed full of jobs to do. Gripe whinge piss moan etc etc etc... Anyhow, as well as various other little crappy jobs, I have to collect our two Pioneer amps from the amp repair shop, which is good news. We keep on burning these fuckers out by playing things far too loud, and so we've been without music in our house for the last week, apart from a shitey pair [...]

The Scottish amongst us will probably have a fair idea of what Trapped In Kansas are all about. They've played all over that fine country, from coast to coast, festival after festival. For people that may not have heard of them though, this will hopefully be good starting point. Formed back in 2008, Trapped In Kansas are holding up the American Football side of things with aplomb. The other side of the coin is their 'Mathy' quality which is reminiscent of This Town Needs Guns . [...]

The Festival is a bit mental in its own right, but this year it is also rather annoyingly commandeering the Bowery for six weeks to pimp shitty bottles of Magners to punters and in doing so depriving us of one of the best places to go to see live music in the city. Bastards. Anyhow, before closing up until September, there Ruth and Jane are having one last big piss-up which happens to coincide with a Toad Night. We've got an hour of open(ish)-mic beforehand, with some splendid people booked, and then we have Glasgow's extraordinary Yusuf Azak [...]
Create a playlist at MixPod.com The winners of this year's T BREAK heats have been announced, thereby giving 16 unsigned acts the chance to fulfil their dreams of playing at T in the Park , although they don't get the 'special' passes that allow them to mingle with the proper stars backstage. To enter into the spirit of turning music into a competition, we've made up a playlist of the chosen acts, and we're asking you [...]
