Regular readers know that I suffer from chronic ear problems brought on by congenitally small eustachian tubes, coupled with a permanent, high-pitched half-hissing, half-ringing noise which worsens significantly when my ears are blocked. Listening to music in this state, I once wrote, is like trying to hear the good stuff underwater, and surrounded by keening whales . What I may not have mentioned before is that several years ago I made the decision to manage these two related medical issues by having tubes installed in both of my ears - a [...]
Ante Scriptum : I'm currently deleting all audio files posted on this site before 2009. It's seems that our little place on the web is consuming to much bandwidth... Jumping from a post to another, it's always tempting to visit every artist website and check what's new ! This is the reason that land me on Trappers Cabin brand new website. "- Hey What Time is it ?" "- Shhhh I can't hear the radio " "- In the deep dark woods of the North Georgia Mountains there's only [...]

I'm tired, I say. What should I write about tonight? Flowers, she says. It's almost spring. And she smiles at me, as if to say I love you. Another Valentine's Day come and gone, and now I'm running ragged against our usual Sunday deadline after a rare evening out without children, just my love and I amidst the white linen and wineglasses, a dozen other couples, and a small cadre of harried, presumably single servers. It's time well spent, though I regret [...]
Paradeluvian, teleotropic, onaneiric.

Apologies for the eleventh-hour entry, folks. I waited all weekend, hoping that my ear troubles would dissipate, but alas, it seems I am doomed to suffer the double distraction of deafness and tinnitus for a while longer. Happily, my ability to hear and appreciate live music was not as compromised as I feared. I spent a practically ecstatic Saturday afternoon at this year's Boston Celtic Music Festival , and I'm still glowing from both the music and the experience of folk-as-communion which was so prevalent [...]

For most of my life, The Kinks have been one of those bands that other kinds of people listened to. That I respect these people, and appreciate their inclusion of the odd Kinks tune on mixtapes and playlists, is kind of moot; the end result has been that while I like the poppy sound The Kinks bring to the table, it's the kind of music I accept as background music, enjoyable but already there, part of that diverse mix of sound which fills the air around us. And the continued prominence of Kinks [...]
While copypasting Susana's interview with Ben Sollee , I was checking that NPR List of Best Unknown 2007 Artists . One of them retained all my attention : Trappers Cabin. Best Unknown Artists : Isn't it crazy to deserve such a prize for a guy who had released 7 full lengths ! Two solutions : Joel Nettesheim (the famous unknown Trappers Cabin) is making noise for his own pleasure... and his streaming his own songs on his myspace for his self-masturbation... NPR staff are smoking mushrooms.... [...]
