Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Rock It Promo The 12th annual SiriusXM Indie Awards marked the end of another year of Canadian Music Week (CMW) in Toronto last night. Saskatoon's Sheepdogs emerged as the big winners of the night, picking up four awards -- Group of the Year, Favourite Single of the Year (for "I Don't Know"), Favourite Live Artist and Favourite Rock Artist -- but the real surprise was their performance during the [...]

The 30th Annual Canadian Music Week is winding down. A lot of stuff was going on this year - one of the most notable things was the comeback of Canadian rock group, Treble Charger. Do you remember their single from 2000, American Psycho ? Oh man, the nostalgia. Anyways, here are my picks for tonight. ** Be sure to follow me on Twitter @feeonalui and @awmusicblog for live tweets from tonight's CMF festivities! The Indies at Royal York Hotel - Canadian Room. Todd V Wolfson I feel that I should say up front that any reservations I have about Kathleen Edwards and her work are entirely my own issues. Since her 2002 debut Failer , I've enjoyed her honest, roots-rock fare but always felt like I expected more from her creatively even though across her first three albums, she'd never shown any signs that she had ambitions beyond being a good singer-songwriter. That said, the fact that she spent her downtime following 20082s Asking For Flowers [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Television Courtesy of Nightbox It's not often that bands come to Canada to further their careers, but that's what dance-rockers Nightbox did a year-and-a-half ago -- and it seems to be paying off. The five-man band hopped the pond from Ireland in early 2010 and settled in Toronto -- the childhood home of brothers Jake (vocals) and Nick Bitove (drums). Within a few months, they'd hooked up with all-star producers and [...]

Anyone watch the debate last night? I did and would like to say that I`m glad they mentioned my good friend Mr Joe Plummer . He`s such a good guy, and rich too!! (PFFFT) I felt like Obama discussed the issues at hand and what his plan is for the future while John McCain concentrated more on making Obama look bad...and did not succeed. Now I know both of them are no saints or anything but come on I feel like McCain just looks into the camera and says nuthing but [...]

One of the biggest group's in Canadian indie rock in the 1990's was Toronto's Treble Charger. From starting out as NC-17 forward, the band could do no wrong. Power pop hits like "Red" and "American Psycho" kept the band on top. I know guitarist Greg Nori is doing a lot of producing nowadays. But I have no idea what's become of the rest of the band. So this week I ask: whatever happened to Treble Charger?
All these posts of originals this week were instigated by a bit of an "originals" google bender last week. Of the originals dug up, none were more surprising to me than the following bit of CanCon classic rock. (Apologies in advance if this post holds absolutely no interest for non-Canucks) In short, CanCan (Canadian Content) regulations require a certain percentage of radio and television broadcasting to be Canadian in origin. For the classic rock stations, that means we were taught early to love The Guess Who, Rush, BTO, Steppenwolf, and The Tragically Hip. That [...]
