So, um, hey, remember me? Sorry it's been so long. I've just been busy, traveling, sick, traveling... Life is back to normal now, which means I can finally get back to doing these shows again. Speaking of these shows, how do you like the 90-minute format? I'll tell you the reason I've been doing them that way: It's a LOT of work to publish a show, way beyond just the recording itself. I don't have as much free time as I used to when I made one a week, so it fits in my life a lot better [...]

From a childhood favorite to influencing the music I listen to today, the 8-bit processor has been with me in one form or another since my 1st Grade Social Studies class. The Famicom, Atari, Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega, and groups like Crystal Castles all share something in common, that little processor that has powered favorite games like Super Mario Brothers , Tecmo Super Bowl , Contra , and ExciteBike (click those links to play). Over the years, advances in computer chip techonlogy have rendered the processor pretty much obsolete (I think). [...]

And Little Big Adventure's yang could well be Dallas's Tree Wave. Well it's certainly louder and more aggressive but reading their bio it seems that the music they make comes from, presumably soundcard enhanced, computers made in the 1970's – something that would probably sit quite easily with LBA. 'Sleep' is Tree Wave's contribution to the SXSW 2008 mp3 fest and a sparkling ditty it is too even
Ef leita á samlíkinga nær nútímanum kemur ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead strax upp í hugann og jafnvel Sonic Youth . Annars hljómar sveitin auðvitað mest eins og hún sjálf. [...]

Thanks to the faithful promotion of awesome Texas music by Chris over at Gorilla vs. Bear , I've been listening to a lot of Tree Wave . In one of his posts he mentioned that this Dallas duo have "drawn comparisons to My Bloody Valentine and the Postal Service", and sure enough they kind of sound like a mixture of both. Paul Slocum's waves of drones and blips provide the foundation of Tree Wave's 8-bit electronica-pop, all of which is composed with highly unconventional instrumentation - including two Commodore 64's, an Atari 2600, and a reprogrammed [...]
This evening kicks off in earnest what should be a pretty good week of live shows here in Dallas. Tonight's concerts showcase the kind of post-ironic, genuinely engaging acts that are something of a rare commodity around here, but who thankfully seem to be growing in popularity as of late. Lavender Diamond (9:00 @ Hailey's ) do the earnest, heart-on-sleeve thing to perfection, with Becky Stark's plaintive, classically-trained voice tying everything together. For more unpretentious fun, check out Dan Deacon's set at the Cavern instead. Breakbeat-driven electro noise is pretty much everywhere these days, but what sets this guy apart is his [...]
Tree Wave's gear Austin, you guys should head out to the Mohawk tonight for a rare chance to see the incredible electro-pop performance art of Dallas' Tree Wave . In introducing this show, I'd be remiss if I didn't first mention Tree Wave's "instruments" , which include a bunch of antiquated computer gear from a more primitive era: a Commodore 64 from 1983, an Atari 2600 from the late '70s, and a mid-'80s model Compaq PC and Epson Dot Matrix Printer. It's nothing short of [...]
