The Chicago rapper/producer Tree calls his style "soul-trap," and that's a better genre descriptor than a critic nerd like me could come up with. Seen from a certain angle, Tree is an inheritor to his city's Common/early Kanye conscious-rap throne. His music can be placid and thoughtful, full of doomed narrative and poverty-contemplation and emotional catharsis. He does things with samples that could've made No I.D. or young Kanye proud; check the way he resurrects the old chipmunk-soul production trick to turn Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" into a disorienting banger on "The King." And he's [...]
Shot and chopped by Heart Of The City TV. Giftz, MC Tree, Joey Purp, Kami de Chukwu, Dally Auston, Brian Fresco and Caleb James all hit the studio together recently to record the official remix for Giftz' 2012 hit, "Nino" . Thanks to HOTCTV, we get a quick preview of what to expect above. Giftz' Position Of Power LP drops later this summer. Produced by Roman Flowrs This is an ill lineup. TwoLett, MC Tree G with production by Roman? Yeah, it's fresh. And yeah, you rarely get to hear Tree going in on a breakbeat, so there's that. Solid record. Off Two's Chasing Dead People Vol. 4 project, which will be out this summer. The post TwoLetterz f/ Tree - Chi-Town appeared first on Fake Shore Drive .
![[Mixtape] Brian Fresco: “Mafioso”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4961205_lg.jpg)
It's time to get your latest SaveMoney fix as Brian Fresco unleashes the Mafioso 'tape, which we had been teased with since the rising emcee released the posse cut " Steamer " back in December. Mafioso was worth the wait though, 13 tracks showcasing Fresco's strengths plus guest-appearances by Chance The Rapper, Kami de Chukwu, Vic Mensa, Tokyo Shawn, Joey Purp, Tree, Nico Segal and Most Dope's Njozma. Believe me, you might find some of his lyrics basic at first, but with every listen there are new things you'll hear and then you'll understand the complexity [...]

Chicago's Tree has released the highly anticipated follow up to last year's Sunday School . Every track is a certified BANGER and features guest appearances from Danny Brown, Roc Marciano, Lili K, Ari Lourdes, and Project Mayhem. Tree will also be performing at Pitchfork's Music Festival in Chicago this summer. Keep your ears open and download Sunday School II . - Conrad

Daft Punk damn near broke the Internet this past Monday when their new album, Random Access Memories , hit the web and quickly appeared on iTunes as a full stream . But coming in a close second place was Kanye West, partially because HMV Japan revealed that June 18 is most likely the release date of his next album. He also performed inside of a pyramid . Yeah. Anyway, we're mostly hyped to hear Killer Mike and El-P's Run the Jewels record, which they finished this past week. In slightly bizarre news, [...]
![[Mixtape] Tree: “Sunday School II”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4953009_lg.jpg)
A lot of anticipation has been growing for Tree's next mixtape. Since Sunday School came out last year , the Chicago MC has been upping his game and visibility, including being featured as a Red Bull Sound Select artist. With Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out , Tree has escalated to the next level, complete with backing from Closed Sessions and Creative Control. Features include Lili K, Teddie Caine, Ari Lourdes,Danny Brown, Project Mayhem, and Roc Marciano with production by Tye Hill, Bink!, Frank Dukes, Illinois Jones, Bobby Johnson, Khari Lemuel, S.C., and Tree himself, Sunday School [...]

The review will come later. Tree has earned the right to get his new mixtape posted sound unseen. After all, the singles he's been leaking off the project have all been leafy and nutritious in a harrowing decayed plant life sort of way. I don't know if that sentence makes any sense, but the mixtape will do that for me. The magic of Internetting. Behold.... Download: ZIP: Tree - Sunday School 2

We've heard the leaks , showered them with praise , and anxiously anticipated Tree's new mixtape, Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out . And, without further adieu, the project has arrived. The Chicago rapper-producer keeps the features to a minimum, allowing his gruff, instantly recognizable voice lead the way. You might be drawn to the joints with Danny Brown and Roc Marciano , and I wouldn't blame you for that, but make sure you play this one all the way through. It's a keeper and then some . You can download/stream the [...]

The 29-year-old Chicago rapper and producer Tremaine Johnson, a.k.a. Tree , just dropped his new mixtape Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out, the follow-up to last year's Sunday School . The mixtape features Danny Brown, Roc Marciano, Project Mayhem, and more. Grab the free download here , or take a listen to the whole thing below. Listen to the Tree/Brown collaboration from the mixtape "No Faces" below.

Being one of Tree's biggest fans/supporters, I felt it was only right to offer up a review/preview of what to expect from SS2. It's no secret that volume one of Tree's Sunday School series was last year's sleeper hit. FSD has been singing Tree's praises for years, but 2012 was the year the outside world finally began to catch on. Accolades and critical acclaim trickled in, and in the interim Tree dropped a handful of EPs and one-off projects. But to kick off 2013, Tree returned to form by unleashing the second installment [...]
The new tape from Chicago's odd man out Tree has arrived, starring the grainy-voiced rapper and onetime salesman of fine women's shoes. A 17-track church service of sorts, Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out ... read more
We've heard several strong leak tracks from Chicago rapper Tree's first release of 2013,

We're two days away from the release of Tree 's new project, Sunday School II , which is sounding like another strong step forward for the Chicago rapper-producer. Further driving that point home is the latest single, "The King", which flips an Elvis Presley sample, has some rad artwork, and serves as a nice intro to what Tree has to offer. The track is streaming below and be sure to check back here on Wednesday, May 15 for the full download of SSII . I, for one, cannot wait .

Tree incorporates the legacy of another king into this release off Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out - "The King" (prod. by @mctreeg). @mctreeg

Tree's Sunday School II drops Wednesday, but he liberates one last record from the project via 'Plex . In case you're wondering, Tree does sample 'The King' Elvis Presley here. Check back here Wednesday to check out SS2 in its entirety - you won't be disappointed. The post Tree - The King appeared first on Fake Shore Drive .

Is there a nice way to suggest that Tree and Danny Brown made a track that could've easily fit on that Pimp Trick Gangsta Click album? If there is, let me go ahead and say that with a smile because the ingredients on "No Faces" - the choppy hi-hats, the drawling horns, Tree's low-drag and Danny's usual unusual high-pitched, fast-driven nasal tone - make me happy as these two play on and on about the ladies. Since he's two for two in recent weeks, Tree's Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out , set to release on [...]
Chicago's Tree consigns Danny Breezy for a track from his forthcoming album Sunday School II. The Soundcloud tag calls No Faces 'soultrap', and I guess we're in agreement with that, certainly got soul, perhaps less of the trap:
