[Bassist Mike] Gordon says he and his former bandmates plan to meet soon to discuss getting back together. The guys have spent the past few years working on individual music projects. Gordon recently released a new CD. He says, "I am definitely focusing on my own thing, but in my opinion the Phish thing is pretty likely at this point, because people are so healthy and enthusiastic about it among the band members. The vibe is really good." The vibe is good. Sounds good doesn't it? The one thing that was missing [...]

The final stage slot at the inaugural All Points West Music & Arts Festival in Liberty State Park featured a new headliner. It felt a bit strange when Radiohead did not take the stage, but that was all soon forgotten, as Jack Johnson played his catchy folk melodies for just under two hours. The Friday and Saturday alternative, hipster and indie crowd, while still present, thinned out enough to make way for the more hippy and family-friendly lineup on Sunday. Radiohead, Underworld, Girl Talk, Animal Collective, Kings of Leon, CSS and others went [...]

Trey-mazing show tonight at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Trey-mazing. Review and more pics coming over the weekend.
You've never heard of them? Shame on you. How about Fela Kuti, or Yossou N'Dour. He's more than just that 7 Seconds song, how dare you. Anyhow, if you like yourself some fine African/World music, you really have to check out Senegal's Orchestra Baobob, who come to Vicar Street on October 18th. Tickets are on sale at €30 and are on sale tomorrow. Thanks to Jim Carroll for the announcement. I first heard of these guys from a documentary about Dave Matthews and Trey Anastasio visiting Senegal. It's brilliant, if you can [...]

Phil Lesh is playing a short 14 night stint over at the Nokia Theatre starting on Halloween. Contrary to what the above web flyer says, tickets for those shows are on sale now . In other hippie jam band news, Trey Anastasio just announced a one off show at the with Classic TAB members Russ Lawton, Tony Markellis and Ray Paczkowski at the Music Hall on August 7, 2008 . Tickets for the Trey show go on sale Saturday (07/26) at noon.
Over the last couple months, Trey Anastasio has certainly given hints of a possible Phish reunion. From his cryptic comments at May's Jammy Awards to the onstage collaboration with fellow bandmates Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman at Rothbury a few weeks back, the legendary frontman has all but confirmed a reunion is not only a distinct possibility, but perhaps imminent. Still, Anastasio has to find something to hold him over until all the necessary kinks and relationships can be hammered out in order to make a reunion a go. That [...]

On day four of the Rothbury Festival, I can finally say that the weather has been absolutely perfect. Same goes for virtually every organizational aspect of the festival. I have been staying offsite at night, but the only complaint I've heard is that some people had to set up their tents far from the festival entrance, which is inevitable when approx. 40,000 people are staying in one place. Today's lineup is somewhat scaled down compared to the last two days, but still solid and diverse. Phil Lesh & Friends are the only game in town after [...]

By: David Schultz With Bar 17 , former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio holds out no olive branch to his phormer phans who wish him to remain phishy. Although it has its upbeat moments, Trey's latest, featuring Don Hall's lush orchestral arrangements, retreats from the spontaneity of Anastasio's mythical live performances, coming instead from the same part of Anastasio's soul as the softer Billy Breathes -era "Waste." For the opening night of his fall tour at New York City's Webster Hall, his first headlining show in months outside of this summer's G.R.A.B. [...]
Last week, in what must have been a moment of boredom, I pre-ordered the new Trey Anastasio album. I rarely pre-order CDs, and I'm not that huge of a Trey fan (Trey's solo albums, that is...I do like Trey the guitarist). Marco Benevento and Joseph Russo's involvement was a factor; plus, the pre-order extras included a free full-length bonus album and a sticker. So I ordered the sumbitch. Anyway, Bar 17 arrived today, and upon the first couple spins, I kind of think it's poop. I'll stop there, as I [...]
There is a lot to be said on motivations behind bands covering songs. Truth is that even though we (the critical masses) think we know everything, only each artist can say for sure why he or she decided to cover a particular song. Some songs get covered by everyone ("All Along the Watchtower"). Some songs get covered it seems as a cry for help, or in hope that a blog will pick it up. How else would anyone have found out that James Blunt played a Pixies song at Coachella ? I guess it doesn't matter either [...]
CybersMusic is giving away a Phish DVD set! That's right! It's a double disc DVD set, with a catchy Phish magnet! Just read our post and find out how You can be a winner!! In a career spanning more than 20 years, Phish became one of the most significant live music phenomena of all time. On the basis of word-of-mouth about their performancesâ€"with virtually no radio hits or video supportâ€"the band grew from playing club gigs along their native East Coast to drawing 100,000 music fans to their [...]
