Legendary punk bassist Mike Watt (of Minutemen and Firehouse fame) has joined forces with The Mars Volta frontman Cedric-Bixler Zavala to form a bona fide super group called Anywhere. Despite there being a Mars Volta record primed and ready for release in 2012, and Mike Watt serving as acting live bassist for Iggy Pop and the Stooges on their recently rescheduled tour , the pair found time to sit down and record a 73 entitled Pyramid Mirrors . Ready for the crazy part? Bixler-Zavala won't even be handling vocals. [...]

A reply to those dishonest journalists who twist phrases to make the Idea seem ridiculous; to those women who only think what I have dared to say; to those for whom Lust is still nothing but a sin; to all those who in Lust can only see Vice, just as in Pride they see only [...]

Cynical, satirical prog-punkers Triclops! find refuge on Jello Biafra's record label. It only takes one spin of Helpers on the Other Side to realize that this foursome of prog-punkers (or is it punk-proggers?) were destined to call Jello Biafra's label, Alternative Tentacles, their home. With mile-wide cynical and satirical streaks, and a sound that touches on early '80s hardcore, where else would they go? Helpers roars out of speakers in a way the Dead Kennedys never did, though, with multi-part suites like "Glaciers (Cry of the...

Tokyo noise, self immolation, moshing! Get it while it's hot!

TRICLOPS! Aaaaaaaand we're back! Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I know I did. Anywho, here's three reasons to see MELT-BANANA and TRICLOPS! at the Bottom Lounge tonight... 1. If you're a fan of highly caffeinated, ADD prog rock, then today is your lucky day. MELT-BANANA incorporate light-speed drums, wailing guitars and mind-bending song structures with frontwoman Yasuko O.'s squeal that would make Claudio Paul Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria do a double take. [...]
Triclops! - "Secret 933 Halloween hangovers were still definitely in play Monday night at Bottom of the Hill . Triclops! took the stage in support of Big Business , filling the first half of an unorthodox two-band bill. The audience may not have been as energetic as would have been ideal, but frontman Johnny "No Moniker" Mink had his own plans, diving on and off the stage to engage in all sorts of delectably bizarre rock-singer behavior. The bantamweight belter was often missing from view - subsumed in [...]

According to French President Jacques Chirac, George Bush told him that the Iraq war was needed to bring on the apocalypse: In Genesis and Ezekiel Gog and Magog are forces of the Apocalypse who are prophesied to come out of the north and destroy Israel unless stopped. The Book of Revelation took up the Old Testament prophesy: "And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog [...]

Download audio file (06-secret-93.mp3) Triclops! - Secret 93 Obama's election aside, all available signs indicate that we're already neck deep in some pretty bad times in America, and I think that's part of why I've found myself listening to Triclops! 's Out of Africa quite a bit this year. Bad times call for heavy, feel-bad music to keep the blood boiling as things fall apart, and the band's first full length release is a slab of acid punk that definitely delivers, fusing a wandering [...]
If you like noise rock and you live in or near New York City, the next week-and-a-half will melt your genitals clean off. You read right. The molten manmeat madness starts on Sunday, when Harvey Milk headlines the (now Tombs-less) Beasts Of The East festival at Club Europa in Brooklyn. The event starts at [...]
My eyes are sickeningly bloodshot. Often, I have dozens of minor epiphanies involving the asses of strange women on the subway. I want to tear out every single supple, inappropriate hair from each of my bony shriveled fingers, the only skinny parts of this trainwrecked physique. My gums ache and bleed. [...]

Mp3: Totimoshi - Ladron 12 Galaxies was the host to three incredible bands on July 8th, Big Business, Triclops! and Totimoshi, who were celebrating the release of the album Milagrosa . Totimoshi's sound leans heavily on dense yet concise riffs, leaving room for drummer Chris Fuggit to relentlessly pound his drums without stepping on the arrangement. Frontman Antonio Aguilar's Stratocaster/Mesa Boogie rig, provides a massive wall of sound, while allowing his riffs to cut through the sound at will. Bassist Meg Castellanos is the glue that holds this juggernaut of a three piece [...]
Let me just start by saying that Out Of Africa is fun but often difficult to listen to. It is not without merit, but the freaked-out combination of spastic hardcore and crazed-prog rock is utterly dizzying at times. The music turns quickly with sharp dynamic shifts and moves from only gently warped to frenetically abrasive faster than you can say Mars Volta ripoff. And although there are many instantly apparent similarities between San Fransisco's Triclops! and The Mars Volta, Triclops! does without the Latin influences and tends to freak out a little more [...]

Triclops! (San Francisco, CA) You may remember a few months back when I raved up and down about how amazing Triclops! were. If you forgot check the post here . The band recently released a full length "Out Of Africa" on Alternative Tentacles - which was founded in the late 1970s by Dead Kennedys. TONIGHT the bay area rockers will be performing at The Scene in Glendale with 400 Blows , Big [...]
