Tripwires | Spacehopper by Tom Johnson You only get one chance to open your debut record, so you might as well do it in style, eh? I don't know Tripwires inner-thoughts but I have no doubt that was what they were thinking when they chose Spacehopper as the opening number on their debut record of the same name. Growing from the, well, spaced-out guitar noise to a more frantic closing second-half, it's a rather grin-inducing opening, and certainly a stylish one. Quite [...]

Reading-based psych-expansionists Tripwires cram just about every wild-eyed idea in sight straight into their debut album 'Spacehopper'. Landing a release on Frenchkiss Records ( Bloc Party , Les Savy Fav ), you've Rhys Edwards' snarling vocals placed at the top of the mix, but the surrounding furore ranges from all-out frenzied ('Plasticine') to more glistening and strung-out backings ('Paint'). We're thrilled to have an exclusive stream of the group's debut, alongside the following track-by-track guide, kindly provided by those handsome chaps above, with their wonderful taste in music (and jumpers). Spacehopper [...]

The names alone surrounding Reading four-piece Tripwires are pretty impressive. Their debut album, Spacehopper , will be released via Frenchkiss Records, home to Bloc Party and Local Natives to name but a few. It was produced by Nicholas Verhnes, who has previously twiddled the knobs (stop it right now) for Animal Collective and Deerhunter. You can see why too. Because they are RAD. New single, 'Shimmer', has a sliver of Peace about it, mixed with just a punch of early Muse, and comes out of the blocks like a freight train, whipping itself up into a cyclone [...]

On July 18 Frenchkiss Records will release Tripwires debut record ‘ Spacehopper ’ featuring their latest single ‘ Shimmer ’. The Reading UK four piece bust out a guitar solo (of sorts) on this one – kudos! From the Nirvana-esque breakdown and the early Radiohead references, its pretty clear what these guys listened to in school! Not that that's a bad thing. If you missed the lead track ‘ Catherine, I Feel Sick ’, take a listen right here . Tripwires – ‘Shimmer’ [...]

Hello again, and welcome to the latest instalment of New Music Friday. How was your week? I hope you made the most of it; I certainly did, but the downside of that was that I spent a lot of time travelling. Even then, it wasn't so bad, because whilst sitting on trains and buses this week, I managed to get to grips with a lot of new music. This week was just as packed as the previous week was, and the stuff I came across turned out to be even more diverse than usual; you should expect the unexpected in [...]

photo by Emily Pietras Psychedelic rock band Tame Impala decided to do a little reworking of Outkast 's track "Prototype" from their incredibly popular Speakerboxxx/The Love Below album. The cover retains the slow burn of the original, but Kevin Parker's voice has a bit more innocence than that of Andre 3000 and Big Boi. [ Pitchfork ] Local Natives enlisted the help of Australian producers [...]

Aside from its ginormous annual music festival , Reading, England is a sleepy little commuter town. It's so small, in fact, it's been denied city status a whopping three times . The four gents of Tripwires (frontman Rhys Edwards, guitarist Joe Stone, bassist Ben White, and drummer Sam Pilsbury) have called the tiny 'burb home for the last six years. "A lot of people live here a couple years for work and then move on," Edwards explains. "For us, it's been a great place to write music. Not as a direct result of the [...]

The road to Tripewires' debut album seems to have been a fairly lengthy one, but now the release is finally on the horizon. Set to showcase 'Spacehopper' next month through Frenchkiss Records, the band plan to tease us with one more single, and DIY is lucky enough to have the first listen to it. Due for release later this month, the band have even gone so far as to give us a little extra info on the track in question: "'Shimmer' was one of the first songs we wrote on the [...]

In a week that presented us some great new hopes for summer, the buzz news cycles found us giving some heart while scratching our heads in aggravation and ambivalence. We send our best to Abraham Orellana, aka AraabMuzik, who is recovering after getting shot as a victim of an attempted robbery, continue to mourn the loss of Slayer's founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman and Kriss Kross's Chris Kelly, and roll our eyes at another bloated exercise of bottom-of-the-barrel branding polemics with ...

The VPME There won't be much going on in terms of new music this week on the site, as we'll be entering the scary physical world again via the magical musical portal that is Liverpool Sound City. Therefore, as tradition dictates, here's ten of our personal must see bands (barring the inevitable clashes) during the three day event… see ya there 1. Dark Horses A welcome late edition to the line up arrives in the form of Brighton's enigmatic Dark Horses. They combine a flamboyant, futuristic 50′s noir biker gang chic with [...]
Reading, England's Tripwires will release their debut album, Spacehopper , on June 18th via Frenchkiss Records. The footage for "Catherine, I Feel Sick" was captured live in London back in February. https://twitter.com/Tripwires

Facebook Tripwires return with news of an album and a track which sounds well nothing like anything heard from Tripwires before, where earlier tracks "Emerald" and "Cinnamon" were adrenaline pumping rushes of deliciously fuzzed-up guitar brutality over hazy, shimmering melody new track "Catherine, I Feel Sick" is spacey, luscious and beautiful. Languid guitar and woozy melody create a dark and deep pysch-rock atmosphere that's just perfect to lost within, a track which whilst different in style rewards listeners willing to explore its depths equally. The Reading quartet's long over-due [...]
